I agree. You really have to use your advantages. Those droid programs matter. The component shuffle matters. Time in the saddle matters. Combat tricks matter. Joystick setup matters.

Often enough, it's not one thing that gives you victory, but a number of things in combination. None of these things is magical or deep, but they matter, and they make a difference.

One thing that helped me was mastering the various mission types while in Tier1 and Tier2. I learned how to escort a freighter and I learned how to capture a freighter. When the time came to do these things in a story mission, I knew what to do. I knew the routine. If you just dogfight, those story missions will hit you like bricks because you won't know the process to accomplish your mission.

Last night's mission for me was lots of Tier 4s. About a pack of 6 to 8. I amtactics, and that's how I seem tobesuccessfully soloing so many missions(Not just abilities, but special maneuvers). I use barrel rolls, and tricks. I must've shot down a few hundred before I got tired and called it a night. Now I have less than 500k more XP and I get my next skill box!! Good times in the Navy, my friends. Oh, I better update my signature.

If your friends are stuck at Tier 1...and they're the only people you can get to help you...might take some time and get them caught up to where you are...then they'll be worth something to you. I wouldn't dream of taking a Tier 1 guy to a Tier 3 mission...it's just begging for him to die. Just use your ship to get their missions completed faster. Should be a cakewalk for a Tier 3 pilot to take out Tier 2 missions. Also make sure you have RE'd parts in your ship...makes all the difference in the world. (and droid programs need to be running...can't stress this enough)

Heh, I should have specified, my comments were directed to Mr_Flibble, not the OP. Most of my friends had JTL installed a couple weeks before my copy came in, one should be making Master this weekend, even though he has taken several hours to help my wife and I with missions. So I'm the one that they are coming back down to help get caught up. My point was, the OP was unhappy about the 6 Tier 3 ships at once, when at this point in the progression you are going to be (if he's talking the Smugglers Alliance Mission, which is what I took it to be) 3 in one tree and 2 in the rest. So you might be in an Ixyien with some level 4/5 gear, or a Kimo with some level 6/7 gear, or.. well, you get the point. 6 Tier 3 ships against that load is not going to be an easy task, especially when the second wave of six spawns before you've finished the first. I felt Mr_Flibble's comments were non-productive, and frankly condenscending.

I guess it's all what you get used to...I haven't had a problem with JTL yet...but I used to play XvT in tournys...so I guess I'm kinda on the other side of the coin...I want stuff HARDER. I WANT to have that skin-of-my-teeth barely survive risk. I'm the happiest when I get in a big honkin' fight and have to limp back to the space station at booster speed of 88 after I've killed everything that spawned. Makes it all the more rewarding. So far, the only mission that has really posed this for me was my Tier 4 exit quest...and let me tell you what...THAT was FUN. 1 Rebel Gunboat, 2 Nova Couriers, 7 Missile Launching fighters...all Tier 4 and 5's...yeah...now that's what I'm talking about.

See, that's the thing.. I'm used to XvT, XWA, etc. also, and in those games, all X-Wings were the same, all TIEs were the same, and it was true Pilot Skill that mattered. In JTL you can be the best pilot there is, but if you're limited to level 1 stuff because you just started, and your weapon only does 50 pts of damage, (that's an example, I know it's higher), fighting a ship using level 4 stuff that has 1000 pts of shields and does 400 pts of damage vs. your 100 pt shields, no amount of skill is going to save you, because all it takes is to get hit twice and you're dead. And the NPC ships can be evaded if you've got practice, but very rarely will that happen. That was my point.
