I think it would be really cool if characters already with an R-series droid could put them in their ships, like the x-wing, y-wing, and jedi starfighter (if it comes to that). It would definately be neat to use your own droid instead of one just sitting in the back. When I turn around I wanna see (Dr-Bob) not R2-X1 or something.

But of course thiswould probably be forced toopen up a new droid module for DEs because DEs still have it pretty bad, and the necessary module could boost their profits.

I'm assuming there is going to be a HUGE influx of droid orders once JTL comes out, better start mastering driod engineer and hoarding resources now lol...

As a former Master Droid Engineer, I can almost 100% assure you that current droids will NOT be compatible with the starships/starfighters of JTL. Based on their previous track record, the devs will most likely add some sort of "Starship Interface Module" to enable an astromech to interact with your starfighter...thereby forcing you to purchase a new R-series droid installed with the aforementioned modulespecifically for this purpose.

heh i'm glad my guild has 2 MDE's

The NGE is a decent start. Now lets bring the rest of the worlds up to par with Tatooine and Mustafar

I think they need to make droid modules customizable. So that you can pull a module out an replace it with another as needed. So that when Pilots land they call thier Astromechs an change stuff. An yes I really hope Astromechs also have ground capabilities instead of being permanent attachements to a ship. I want to have a little R2-D2 ripoff in my ship that will also follow me around after we land.

This idea is as old as the game itself. The concept of "hot-swappable" droid modules has been discussed to death on the Droid Engineer forums and the devs have told us that this is impossible to do because of the nature of the coding involved with droids. Although a great idea (and money sink for DEs), it simply won't happen in this version of SWG. Perhaps in 5 years, when SWG2 is out...

Do you think the Dev's may allow a deconstruct of the droid kind of like they did with old Jedi Lightsabers?A "Give your droid to aMDE and he can deconstruct it and add the new module" situation would be helpful.

Bah they could do it if they wanted. Any number of ways it could work. It would just require time an effort on thier part to redesign the systemwhich they dont seem to enjoy.

Anyone figure out how to use an astromech droid? I have the skills and an R4 that I loaded w/ a droid interface into my ship, but I have no commands under the abilities menu. Help!

You have to program your droid first using 'Unprogrammed Droid Modules'. You'll be able to pick these up from high level DEs.

Now with Astromech droids, they need to be fitted with a Data Storage Module to be able to store droid commands. To make things even more complicated, the Pilot Droid certs mean you can only use 1 type of Storage Module in your droid (at least until you get to a high level)

Data storage mod Lvl 1 is usable by Droid Certed 1/2/3/4/5/6 Pilots

Data Storage Mod Lvl 2 ii usable by Droid Level 2/3/4/5/6 certed pilots and so on

Unfortunately as Data Mods stack, you cant just get one droid with say all 6 types of Data storage modules, as they will all stack together and need an even higher cert to use!

Best thing to do is go to a DE and ask for an R5 ....with just a data storage module in it. These are fairly easy to build, and should cost you a Max of 15-20k (anymore you're getting ripped off). Once you've got to Master, you can go and buy a R3 with the max datastorage, item storage, Crafting stations etc, but until then, stick with the R5s as until you hit master you'll want to be upgrading your droids at least every 2 Levels - personally I recommend getting 2 R5s, one with a Lvl 2 Data Module in and and another with a Lvl 4. These should do you until you hit master & you can yourself the Uber droid Also buy at least of Crate of Unprogrammed Droid modules - you're gonna go through these.

Now how to program the droid. You get a Module, right click on it and select 'Program Droid Module' you'll get a list of all current commands you can program. Select the one you want and the command will be programmed into the module. Now select the Module and select the option 'Store Program' (or something similar - cant remember) - this transfers the program into YOUR datapad. Now open the Droids datapad, and transfer the command from your datapad to the droids.

When you are in Space, bring up your Macro Options and select the 'Astromech' Tab - the command will be there, you can then drag it to the Hot Key Bar. - Sorted.

Now once these commands are programmed into the droid, they cannot be removed, which means each time you get a new droid, you have to reprogram all the commands again, using the Unprogrammed Droid modules (thats why you need a crate of em)

Now only a couple of Rebel Fighters use the Astromech droid - the X-Wing and the Y Wing. All other shipsuse Flight computersbut theseare programmed in exactly the same way.
