I don't see how a species change option is necessary for Jump to Lightspeed. Just because they add new content to the game doesn't mean they have to give it to you for free. You picked your current species, and thatspecies remains exactly the same, adding a couple new species doesn't change your species at all. You knew what you were getting when you picked it. If you want to try a new species, then there's nothing stopping you. It's there for you to experience if you want, nobody is forcing you either way.
Now, when the combat revamp rolls around, things are a little different. With the major HAM overhaul and probably a race stat rebalance, there are going to be drastic changes to our current species, which we had no way to predict or plan for. Choices that were smart in the past might not be that well suited to different personas, playstyles, or professions anymore. This would probably warrant a race change option, although it should be a one time thing shortly after the combat revamp. We've all already suffered through an imbalanced system that should have never made it out of beta, I certainly hope they don't expect us to just go peacefully when they pull the carpet out from under us, even if it is in the name of balance.

Big deal you dont get to change characters its not a big deal. After maybe tops a month the race thing well be back to how it is now. Just because you have played for along time so have I changing races would total off balance it all. The only reason most of you wanna switch race is because its new its not like people care what race you are. If you want the race that bad your gonna have to re-roll your chracter and there is really nothing that you can do about that.

this isnt about you changing species or gender in the sense that lucasarts explains it. you would have to choose a new name new appearance for the 2 new species only if you choose. the only think you would be able to keep is the skills you had on your previous avatar. i understand the point of view of not wanting to allow people to change but it doesnt make much sense when we first started playing we chose the species we most wanted to be with no knowledge that 2 new species would be available. the request is unreasonable the only thing that transfers is your skills. The fact that this post is bumped up to the top messages means that it is given some consideration its not that much to ask for the same skills.

I think SOE should finally realize that 1 character per server is one of the dumbest things you can do in an MMO in regards to character creation...I think every other MMO out there allows you to have more than one character per server FFXI is the only one im not sure on as you had to pay an extra $1 a month for a second character but I dont know if they could be on the same server.
Fact is everyone makes friends on their server and everyone desires an alt of some sort, but being forced to make an alt on a server where you know nobody and have no ability to twink them forces you to continue playing your main...which leads to boredom which leads to canceling your account. Im actually surprised they still only have 1 character per server nonsense in after a year of being live, DAOC went from 4 to 8 character slots per server after a year or so of being live (they didnt cap you at 10 total either you could literally have over 80 characters on your account I think).

This will NEVER happen. Not because of SOE, but because Lucasarts has stated that at no time can a player "change their spiecies". This was stated by a dev some time ago. =( Sorry.
Not even just LucasArts, but George Lucas himself said that we could not be allowed to change either sex or race after a character is created.
As CyberData said, this is something that will never happen. Even if the devs wanted it to happen (which I'm sure they don't), they wouldn't have the authority to make that kind of decision.

instead of just ragging on it why not propose some way you would like for it to work. as far as i see if you arent allowed to keep your name, weapons, money, and just transfer your skills to a new species(only the two new JTL ones) it wouldnt be so bad. all im saying is when i started the game at launch i chose the species that i liked best and had the most appeal to me, and i did so not ever aware that the option to choose new species would ever come up, now that it has i think its somewhat fair to allow all of those players who have played the game to be given a chance to transfer their skills to the new species if they like as a one time option
