you don't need to select yourself in order to heal yourself.

I have a simple macro i use in combat that goes like this

/clearcombatQueue;

/healDamage self;

Put this up on your toolbar, then you can just hitwhatever function key it's on, and you will automatically clear any attack commands you have queued up and heal yourself - while remaining targetted on whatever it is you're attacking.
