A crew of 1 is described as a "skeleton" crew. Ask any navy pilot if he'd go into battle with a skeleton crew?

Not by choice, no. But sufficient for surprise attacks, so that you can get yourself out of trouble, not vape everything that attacks.

"Sufficient", just like the missiles are; sufficient to buy you time to hyper the hell out.

Actually if you remember correctly, in Ep 4 when Han is going to take off from the starport in Mos Eisley, he tells them he has a few tricks up his sleave..reaches over and pushes a button which brings out a front mounted gun and kills the stormtroopers setting up a gun. He uses it again in Empire when they are escaping from Hoth. But that does not mean all YT-1300's had this modification. Remember Han and Lando both had did their own Mods on the Falcon. So this was probably one of them added in after the ship was built.

the main question is, if in fact the falcon did have a main gun besides the turrets, was it one of han's or lando's mods or was it originally there when the falcon was just a plain old freighter.

I don't know but in X-wing Alliance, the YT-1300turret guns can be foward-linked and fired by the pilot in addtion to defensive auto-firing mode, and there also seems to be a main gun.

*sigh*

First: I think that the YT's turrets *should* have an option to lock them towards the bow, at which point the pilot can fire them. It's not like you're going to outmaneuver a wing of TIEs in a freighter, anyway [ed- and if you can, then this needs to be fixed].

Second: There is at least one reference from the EU of the *FALCON'S* turrets being fired by the pilot. It is also noted that such pilot control is horrendously inaccurate and likely not much good for anything besides scattering formations.

Third: The little blaster that you see both in Mos Eisley and Hoth is a modification by one of the Falcon's owners, and it's not a fixed weapon either (it rotates, and likely has a slightly variable pitch as well).

Fourth: Does anyone else understand that the YT-1300 is a light freighter? Get it? Freighters--as a general rule of thumb--carry no armament when launched. The Millenium Falcon was a (say it with me now) *HIGHLY* *MODIFIED* starship. Yes, those modifications include the turrets. Yes, it was a very, very poor choice to add to the game. No, it should not come with turret mounts (I'm all about shipwrights being able to modify chassis to accomodate this sort of thing, but that's not for this thread).

Any questions? Ok... class dismissed.

One question, have you played XWA?

Im not trying to be sarcastic. The falcon didn't have a main weapon han or land could fire from the cockpit?

I see many referances to XWA saying that the YT's in that could fire forward.

XWA like many other star wars games uses a little bit of creative liscence. Just the same as SWG uses a bit of creative liscence to make the guns only usable by a second player.

it was also not a game that could be played co-op so its understandable that the guns fired forward.

a stock YT-1300 is just a freighter. why do you think luke takes 1 look and goes "what a peice of junk"

The Falcon is a HIGHLY modified variant of the yt-1300. so modified infact that i doubt the thing has any of its original parts left.

Lando would have added mods to it before Han won it of him. thenHan would have made his owns mods.

its the same as the lady luck. that has weapons and all sorts of other features. I dont see everybody that has one complaining that they can change the parts of it.

the gun that Han uses to shoot the stormtroopers would have no effect on ship armor. its used to cover the falcon's escape from ground attacks while prepairing for take off.

Han also does not shoot at the tie in ep4. the tie shoots at the falcon as itfly's over the top. the switch or button that Han presses is probably eitheran increase in throttle or an increase to the shields.

ATTN: The average YT-1300 IS NOT the Falcon!!!

You guys keep bringing up examples of the Falcon and Han and Lando. Put that aside, for the Falcon was heavily modified, and then talk. What Han had on HIS YT-1300 makes little difference when talking about YT-1300's as a whole.

A lot of people forget this.

I understand that the YT-1300 is an iconic figure in SW lore, but for the love of god people, please stop comparing the stock one you have to the Falcon. It's the same model, but not the same ship. You shouldn't have the mods that the Falcon does unless you add them yourself.

I think that is true as well.

Also, that loud noise that you hear is the TIE zooming over the top of the ship.

OK so let's take it that those guns were added by Han, or Lando. What's stopping us from making modifications to our ships like this?

How hard is it to set a program up to say basically:

If Turret = manned
Then forwardfacing.unlock
Else forwardfacing.lock
End If

That is really hard programming... I can't believe I managed that

its a multiplayer ship.

you should not be able to do anything other than fly it by yourself.

never once in any of the films do you see Han or Lando flying the falcon by themselves. there is always at least 1 other person on board.

falcon - YT1300
hummer for civilians - hummer for army

looks the same

devs are not saying the falcon didn't have a main gun, they're saying the stock YT1300 doesn't have a main gun

it's like when you go and buy a car, if you buy the basic model, don't be surprised if you don't have a V8 engine with two turbocompressers.
