Thanks guys!
I did try Num Lock - it made the screen jump around crazily, so I knew it was trying to do something, but the spinning continued. Hull breach was iminent so I restarted the PC again... and again... the third restart the spinning stopped.
The fact that I have no idea why makes me nervous. Tonight I will do what Korant suggested, just to be safe.
I have to say, after blowing some stuff up, and running around the Sorusub, I felt much better!
I like space!

i had this prob in beta. i have some usb flight controllers for my flight sim stuff which i dont wanna use for jtl atm.the solution: go to the ship kybd mapping scn (ctrl+o -> [controls] -> [keymap] -> [ship]); clr the control bindings for roll, pitch, and yaw that have joystick input. this wil stop the uncontrolled rolling.
if u plan to use a jystk, then config it to ur liking. i have not set up for jystk cuz i dont have a usb one, and didnt see anyway to select which game controller i prefer. it seems jtl concludes that u MUST want to use the usb over analog, so it selects that for u - either that, or it just binds to the first device it likes or comes across. gl...
Korant, you rock!!!
I logged in today and had the same exact problem as yesterday - I did what you suggested and the spinning stopped immediately!!! Thank you!

I had this same problem yesterday when trying to fly and everyone thought I was crazy for it. The problem is your mouse that you are using. I was using a ps2 from usb convertor. So what I did was just put the USB part in the USB connector and after a reboot it seems to work fine. Make sure your mouse is in correctly and think JTL has some problems with different types of mice
