You need to upgrade your RAM, this can be quite painful if your motherboard does not support DDRAM, as DDRAM is 60% faster than SDRAM. Your processor will probably need an upgrade, I have the same type of processor as you and mine's terrible, whihc I need to upgrade, also what is your graphics card like, as that is very important also.

i prviously had 512 ddr memory and just another 512ddr for jtl. i found the only brand i trust (kingston) for $80. im not sure if you can mix and mach brands and size tho.
try pricewatch and pricegraber, some places sell things 2x or 3x what you can find online at the right place.

You can match brands and sizes, but not DDR SDR or DDR2

Celeron?

I use the good stuff, 1gig of Corsair TwinX-PC3200XLPT DDR4002-2-2-5 latency, costs about 275 on newegg.com, that was the best price I could find, most other places were 300, or more. It's pretty pricey, but it's very very good RAM, decent for overclocking, but mainly for balanced performance and low latency. There's another one in the same line for overclocking if that's your thing, but the latency is a little worse at 2-3-3-6 I think, still really good though.

But basically with memory you want to buy proven brand names, don't just get the stuff that's cheapest, 1 gig of RAM isn't just 1 gig of RAM, the second I put in the Corsair I immediately could tell the difference in my games from the crap brand I was using before.

Some good brands, Kingston, Corsair, OCZ, those are a few, corsair makes some real good memory for OC'ing.

Oh yeah, meant to mention, I'm not really familiar with celeron processors or the board types they use, so can't say what memory would be compatible with that, was just listing general names. I use the Intel Pentium 4.

Ok, that link you provided says you have an HP Pavilion 430.uk .

I did a quick little search on HP's site and came up with the following page:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?product=397588&lang=en&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00032475

Short story: The page says your systems uses PC2700. It has a total of 2 DIMM sockets on the motherboard. The page above has pictures of the motherboard. If both sockets are already occupied (2 x 128mb sticks), then you can not add more without removing what is currently there. If only 1 socket is currently occupied (1 x 256mb stick) then it shouldn't be too difficult to just add another stick of ram. I hope that helps you find what you need.

Wow you guys go for the expensive stuff LOL. I've found the RAM that kicks butt for me is also the cheapest...Viking. I won't use anything else. Never let me down in the past and screams. Then again, I have a lot of weird preferences (ASUS boards, Sapphire Radeon cards, AMD chipsets...)

There are places online you can go to see a list of the memory compatible with your board, most brand sites have one. Like go to the site for kingston memory or corsair, etc. and they'll usually have a thing to enter your board type and all and it'll give you a list of compatible memory made by them.

PC2700 is the same as DDR333 . It is a specific type. You will find ram listed under both labels, or one or the other. DDR333 refers to a 333mhz clock speed. PC2700 refers to a 2.7GB/s bandwidth. That is just the type it states on that spec page for the motherboard listed for your particular system.

From what I have found prices for a single 256mb stick of DDR333 / PC2700 currently runs between $35 and $45 US depending on where you buy it.

Before you buy anything, you need to make sure that your Motherboard has an open DIMM socket. It only has 2 total, and both may already be filled with 128mb sticks (giving you your current total of 256mb of ram).

For further assistance, you might want to call HP. Their techs will be able to look at your specific computer as it was shipped and can give you very clear answers to all of this. Theyshould also know any specific issues with your particular computer and may be able to help you stay clear of them.
