Thread: Where have all the shipwrights gone???

There's still quite a few shipwrights in the South Coronet Mall, but yeah, interest in the profession is waning. It was bound to happen. Same thing happened when publish 7-8 went in...everyone and their brother got Droid Engineering, made their money, and got out a few months later.

I picked SW up recently cause it was a long-time dream of mine (its the reason I started SWG in the first place), and now I am considering keeping it as a backup profession to supplement my droid sales and to help out guildies. Kind of a hobby...

I remember back about a month and a half ago when I wrote on these very forums that shipwrights were destined to become the new Architects, and that only the early grinders would receive a sizable return on their investment as JTL would only take about two months to reach a saturation point member-wise, and with the relative ease of making Ace, people would just stop playing it.

I think I got one-starred for it and got told I was out of my mind.

Yea I remember when you said that, and I didn't agree with you online but I did in my thoughts. Yet another reason they should have left pvp with damage, now the 1000's and 1000's of pvp'er will never need new ships.

As soon as it was made plain that factory support wasn't forthcoming, most of us split or simply craft for friends and guildies.

I have limited playing time, and I do not want to spend that time hand-crafting every component someone needs for their ship. With the current factory rules, thats exactly what we have to do. Its also not easy to harvest/purchase the huge quantities of resources needed for ship components.

You'll hear all kinds of excuses on why their isn't factory support, and none of them are valid simply because of this; it makes the game NOT FUN. When something becomes NOT FUN, there is a serious problem that needs addressed. Other things that were NOT FUN were quickly changed or fixed. It will take a serious outcry from outside the Shipwright community to fix this lack of factory support.

Good luck finding a SW folks, you're gonna need it.

I didn't even realize that you couldn't use factories. That is the stupidist thing I have heard in this game. If all other professions can use factories you should be able to use them also.

Oh and someone stay open cause I'm gonna need some starships soon. (I decided to start using JTL for more than just free travel.)

Myself, I'm glad theres no factories. See JTL launched and a bunch of miners and stockpilers came out of the woodworks, they blew up of course. I don't blame them, if I'd the resources to do I would have to, they blew up, crafters of old, weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, 12 pointers, kings and queens, crafters of lore.

They blew up the SW scene for a good couple months, then realizing no factory support and the actual at keyboard play involved, returned to their former automated empires.

There's another type of shipwright, one you actually find roaming around SP's in the game, with a droid for crafting, and resources on hand, who takes custom orders and haggles deals. Vendorless but dedicated. They don't care about no factory support. They thrive without it, realizing everyones making a cut if their willing to. The little guy actually stands a chance. Its not the same as wep or armsmith- an automated empire. Its a face to face prof, like image designer. You tell SW about your ship woes and a good SW will make it better, for the right price.

Answer: No one is playing this game, its that simple.

There's more action in the forums then in the game itself. Most servers are running on low, very low populations.

Blame the devs, its their fault!

There's always one or two people spamming in Coronet to sell their ships on Gorath, but that's about it.
Other then that, I really haven't notices a Shipwright shortage mainly because I never have a need to buy components anymore. Why? Simply because I don't have a reason to go into space. Since I hit Ace, I have nothing to do up there but fly around and useless destroy things. I've already done all the space stations missions as well.

So if I don't go into space, my components don't decay, which means I don't buy any more...

Okay here is the facts on all crafters in the game in general. Early in the game it was easy to find a reputeable crafter. Now you have hundreds of shops on each planet and none with anything good.

Jedi got second and second account is put common crafter here.

Combat imbalanced result someone can be a kick butt pvper and a master crafter to boot.

Nothing better to do and crafting is the next option.

The game is flooded with crafters. Atleast on my server it seems every third house is a shop. Every guild hall a mall. This stuff can seriously make crafting less fun. Things like hey I am competeing with two hundred guys on this planet alone. Really tarnishes things alot.

Come to sunrunner I booted up my JTL today and went to corellia Just south of coronet was a field of green xs. Probabally 15 16

Well if you want an honest answer here it is. I was having fun when I was making money. When I'm loosing money (including the cost of my time) then I'm not having any fun. I'm not a charity. Pilots want cheap ships, cheap parts, and they don't care if you have to run Rancor missions to fund your harvestors or to buy resources from miners. Fortunately I don't have that low of self-esteem to fall for that bs. I'm letting those who undervalue their product and time dump their product for 1 cpu and while they burn out. So I'll be back selling components in a month.

As to the person who thinks it's stupid to raise prices in this time of ship component shortage, well, I'd have to say you're dead wrong. Economics 101 tells you that in times of shortage, prices rise. As prices go up, more people will pursue Shipwright because they find it easier to make a profit. Thus the over all supply increases. That's basic economics. It's cyclical, not linear. That's why I have to chuckle at these people who dump their product at low prices. They can't make enough money to cover their losses during the down turn, and find themselves either a). quitting the profession or b). running missions to prop up their failing business. Only a few months ago, people were saying economic theory doesn't apply in SWG. Well, lo and behold, here we see it does as we witness the fallout. I'm still standing, how about you?

Except that this shortage was created by a fall in demand in the frst place. Here's what happaned: the economy saw abig drop in demand for ship related itemscaused by non-price driven external forces outside of the economy (shift of the demand curve), resulting in a huge price decrease; then there's a decrase in supply as wellcausedby peopledropping the shipwright profession due to lack of fun, lower profit,et cetera (ashift ofthe supply curve), which in turndrove the prices up a little butnot enough to offset theprice drop as aresult of the fall in demand earlier, while further reducing demand (a movement along the new demand curve). Now we're at an equilibrium for the time being, buttheeconomyis going to get worse as people continue to leave the profession if the devs don't do anything to revive activities in space as well as bring in more new players. Eventually, the prices will be so high because of zero supply. However, high prices alone are not going to be strong enough to bring more people back intothe shipwright business. Why not? Because the lowerprices as a result of the increase in supply do not give you a noticeable increase in demand in a game like SWG/Jtl if there're no other incentives.

As much as I hate to say it. It sounds like SW need to raise prices. I mean I have done crafting before and it sounds like SW is worse than normal ones. If the vendors are always being sold out and SW are having to take TONS of time to make there items then maybe if they raise prices sales will go down to a steady pace and SW will get something to make it more worth while. Think of it this way would you rather pay a bit more and not get so much stuff or spend 2 hours looking on empty vendors.

this is just stupid

ok lets raise prices so we can drive the customers aways even more. God i hate people that think like this. If the problem is people are buying vendors out is because the demand is high and noone is willing to supply. You even heard of supply and demand. If you dont want to work and make money then follow this person's rules of suypply and demand. God this is just Stupid.

wither way on my server is different we have lots of vendors but all selling low lvl stuff and a few high lvl stuff. but we got plenty of vendors stocked. They like to make money.
