I used to be able to find anything I needed for my ships if I could come up with the credits. What happened?? I am on Naritus and there seems to be a serious shortage of Shipwrights selling good stuff. I was at the North (Mod) mall outside Coronet last night and I could not find missile packs, weapons, etc. I even noticed some of the vendor that were there are gone. Did I miss something?? Hey Shipwrights, where are you??

I know what you mean I am on intrepid and I spent 2-3 hours last night just looking on SW vendors most empty. Then I finaly found a vendor with something on it didn't have anything good. (all looked like it was looted) So I am not sure what happened to SWs. But I am having the same problem.

It's kinda like architect. Everyone is going to need the stuff when it first launched but after a while everyone has a house or a spaceship and there is less of a demand. So that is why there are less shipwrights now.

I can tell you where I went...
As soon as it was made plain that factory support wasn't forthcoming, most of us split or simply craft for friends and guildies.
I have limited playing time, and I do not want to spend that time hand-crafting every component someone needs for their ship. With the current factory rules, thats exactly what we have to do. Its also not easy to harvest/purchase the huge quantities of resources needed for ship components.
You'll hear all kinds of excuses on why their isn't factory support, and none of them are valid simply because of this; it makes the game NOT FUN. When something becomes NOT FUN, there is a serious problem that needs addressed. Other things that were NOT FUN were quickly changed or fixed. It will take a serious outcry from outside the Shipwright community to fix this lack of factory support.
Good luck finding a SW folks, you're gonna need it.

Lack of factory support is not it.
Lack of need for an inferior product + no reason for bieng in space = no demand for shipwrights, simple enough.

There are too many components that you have to craft to make it worthwhile to offer them all. There are manycategorieswhere you can spend your experimentation points and not everyone likes where you spent them so some components end up sitting on your vendor until they time out. What's worse is that the sub-components, many times, make the end product less attractive to buys since it makesthe statsworse.
Things like missle packs and chaff require a lot of materials to make that the price you need to charge to keep from going into the red isn't worth selling them for.
I'm sure that it will get better for SW's in the future but many aren't waiting around to find out.
I know on Chilastra the exodous to "other games" has nearly emptied the galaxies of many kinds of crafters products.

Ive noticed that most of my favorite vendors have simply stopped restocking. Up tell recently ive attributed it to the holidays.
Personnaly i think that now that the mad rush to get into space is over, the demand isn't as great anymore. Honestly if i had stuff sitting on a vendor that isnt selling, id reevalute my chosen trade and go into another one maybe.
Another thing ive noticed is that most shipwrights have a chassis fetish, as it seems to be all their selling. Well, i have plenty of chassis, but what i think pilots really want is parts. At this point it comes to a question of what resources are in shift. Just any resource spawn won't do to produce the parts with the desired stats. If nothing spawning, then no parts worth buying will be made.

As much as I hate to say it. It sounds like SW need to raise prices. I mean I have done crafting before and it sounds like SW is worse than normal ones. If the vendors are always being sold out and SW are having to take TONS of time to make there items then maybe if they raise prices sales will go down to a steady pace and SW will get something to make it more worth while. Think of it this way would you rather pay a bit more and not get so much stuff or spend 2 hours looking on empty vendors.

Shipwright was a doomed profession from the beginning. I gave it up half way through grinding it when I realized this and went Tailor instead (I like being able to wear anything I want
). Looted parts are better than crafted. Reverse-Engineering is a joke and is prettyuseless (10 RE level 10 parts would only yield one part that is 10% better). Ship chassis last pretty much forever so now that the initial demand has been quenched, there is little demand for any shipwright stuff. Sure, maybe some people will buy missiles and chaff packs.... but that's not good enough to make any kind of decent profit and it's notmuch fun for the shipwright if that's all he's selling.

I'm still in business and still making my stock but my motivation is waning.
I try to keep good prices (3-4cpu) and spend hours keeping up stock but frankly it isn't worth the hours of work to maintain stock. And to add insult to injury folks still scream bloody murder at the prices or plead poverty (not the local folks, mind). Folks have realized it is a dead end profession as once folks rip through the tiers and master they will never decay again and it will be nothing but a munitions profession.
So, what is the point of continuing when there are far more productive means to make money? The effort per credit AND credit per unit for shipwright is horrid and this is a deadly combination that is thinning the supply side.
I have no intention of leaving the market. I've played a master architect since September 2003 and expect to still be plugging out ships and components in September 2006. I'm an odd duck that way though =>P

Also many shipwrights and players in general are all working on Jedi so no one is in space.
At least this may force the over priced gouging vendors to reduce their prices quite a lot

Ikka,
I've been busy with the village and such (heh, just unlocked my final branch with my alt, now only 7 mil FS xp to go
) but I try to keep my vendors stocked. Drop by and let me know if I am missing something you really need. I'm also a WS I've been busy trying to keep grenades in stock, shuffling my harvesters, sigh, it never ends.
As to why everyone left: Many people picked up Shipwright when JTL launched. I played beta and laughed at all the people who were deciding to take it up. Seems like half my guild wanted to do it. Then the reality hit. Resources, hand crafting, etc. Poof. FOTM craft skill dropped. It takes a dedicated crafter to stick with this skill. You have to like making starships. Keeping a vendor stocked is challenging and to be honest I haven't been as diligent as I could be. Sometimes I just want to take my alt and kill stuff. Sometimes I want to fly and work on my pilot skills. If I do any of those things I'm not going to keep up with the vendors as much as some would like. It didn't matter when everyone and his wookie was a shipwright. Now that it's shaking out to just the dedicated professionals you will have some supply/demand issues.
