That's a great idea. Go ahead and program it, and I'm sure the Devs would love to include it. As it is, I'd rather have the game come out on schedule, and possibly consider revising the ship launching system some time after the combat revamp.

lol, you may think this is difficult to do, but it's not. Yes it would take some time to do, but not nearly as much time as you would think. As for doing it post launch, I'm fine with that to. It's just an idea to toss into the pool.

First thing I noticed that would not look right is, looking at the Starports its kinda funny just how small the areas would be. You would need all the room in the landing area of the Starport to land a ship, and your mapped out areas are a small portion of that. I know you mentioned that in your post, but I was looking at it in-game, and it would be a REALLY big diffrence.

I love the idea, and really wish we would get something more like this other then clicking on a terminal. However we would need a new building to launch ships from to make it viable.

Well thought out tho, and good ideas.

Well, since the hangar bay itself would be instanced you don't even need room for the hangar bay room itself on the map, just the door to enter into the instanced hangar bay. Or maybe evenan elevatorthat then transports you to your instanced hangar.

Exactly. The bay itself will be instanced so even though it's kind of lame, the bay itself could be 10 times bigger than the one on the map I drew. The one on the map is merely to show the location of the entrances and a rough estimate of where you could see ships taking off.

I also know that this would mean that the ships you would see taking off and landing would be alot smaller than their real counterparts, but seeing as the corvette (it is a corvette right?) that you normally board in order to go between planets is hardly scaled correctly, then I don't see a problem with other ships taking off being smaller than they actually are.

No its not a corvette. It is I believe a ship made just for the game. I understand the instanced idea, and I guess that wouldn't be too bad IF you didn't show the ships taking off. If they did they would look way too small taking off from the new hangers in the Starport. I hate to knock your idea man because its well done, and well planed out, and I am sorry but in my opinion it would not look too great. I still say we would need new buildings to do it right. (new buildings with hangers would at least make the cities look better)

Yeah but that means they would have to redo every city in the game that has a starport to make room for a new hangar building.

This idea at least has a chance because it's the least ammount of work to get it done. Besides, the area of the starports where I've got the docking bays mapped out is pretty tall from the outside so you wouldn't even see the ships from the outside until they're fairly high in the air and from that far away you won't notice the size inacurasies nearly as much as you'd expect. At least that's my opinion. I may be wrong.

If you're concerned about realism - the ships are too big to fit in those little areas - then have the instanced door be the door to an elevator. You walk into the elevator and it takes you below ground to your underground hanger. Same concept, still an instanced hanger, but now you can say a whole lot of hangers can be there. After all, do you think all the ships in star wars are always stored above ground?

In the corner of the starport where noone ever goes anyway have a small opening that you can look down into a hanger bay - just some static display, doesn't even have to have anything moving. When someone launches their ship comes up out of this area and then goes into space. That way people waiting for the shuttle can see all these ships leaving. Also, when you land the same thing happens - the ship comes down and goes into this hanger opening.

We need this or some other way to show people our ships and actually walk around them - not just for RP, but think of selling your highly modified YT-1300. Don't you think you'll get all it's worth if you can actually have someone walk around and lookt at it?

You really wouldn't have to redo every city... you could just put them on the outskirts and build a couple more static building around them to make them blend in. Wouldn't take much time at all, but I do see what your saying.

You could be right about the tall part tho, accept for larger ships like the YT-1300 because I think that would be a bit noticable, but I guess it could work.

All in all I just really don't think we will ever see anything like this the devs for some reason seem to be against it.

Good idea about the sub-level part. I actually like that part even more. Anything to allow you to look at and walk around inside your ship whilst it's on the ground gets a 5 star from me.

I like the idea. I would do something a little different.

When you call your ship in the starport, its spawns in one of the docks. You would then have 3 mins to enter the ship or the dock would close for someone else to call there ship.

That would create lag because then the docking bays aren't instanced. The beauty of instanced docking bays is you wouldn't have to wait for anyone finish with their docking bay, nobody loads it but you and whoever else enter, won't cause lag, you can spend as much time as you want looking at your ship, working on it or just mucking about inside it. So I believe instanced docking bays are the best way to go.

I like this idea from a RPG point of view. The layout is very nice and I would like to see such a concept go live. Although the light freighters like the YT-1300 won't fit in you docking bays, I would have no problem having them actually larger inside the bay than outside. The starports like Mos Eisley should have docking like that anyway. Great idea.

i like this idea! i think it would be a good idea to have to go up to a space station that you launch from. and of corse it would be instanced so just you and your group would be there. then you can launch right into space
