Thread: Is it just me...
Flawed... I dance for the fun of dancing, for the fun of interacting with the customers, for the fun! I don't dance to spend a lot of time writing up routines. I do change my dances, use my flourishes and special effects, and try to be entertaining. One of the things I like about not having a routine, is that it is never the same twice. I do experiment with things, but I don't spend a lot of time working it out beforehand. I just use my head and try my best. Dancing, especially in a game, for me, is not something that should be taken so seriously that the fun is lost. What is most important to me, is getting the patrons healed up quickly and having a great time with them while I do it. That is why I dance. I'm not saying that your way is not good, and I actually am very glad that you enjoy it. It's just not for me. But, back to the reason of my post... do you really think that the dancer skill tree is finished, and that we should be satisfied after all of our hard work... with less original flourishes than we started off with? shrug I obviously live with it, do my best, and still have fun with it... sigh...but gee..wouldn't it be nice? /wishful smile

-Lilin- So very true. It is sometimes hard to remember, even for the best of us, that what we find entertaining is not what others find entertaining. I actually had someone tell me in game that they thought it was "sick" that us dancers spent so much time in the cantina "flirting" with people, while there was so much more of the game to play. /shrug My response was...To each his/her own, I'm glad you're having fun your way. /smile
FlawedDiamond... A good idea. That type of resolution would definitely help out the way you dance, and I'm sure I could come up with some way to make it work for me. I am kind of confused about the way it would work though. Would the basic flourishes all be the same type of dance, or would we still have the ability to choose which style of dancing was appropriate for the time? Just to let you know, I'm not in any way trying to provoke you. It is so hard to tell attitudes with typing. Just honest questions, in an effort to understand. /grin

Flawed Diamond:
I DO agree there. We talked a LOT about that in Beta. What would be nice is to break down the flourishes into more BASIC steps that we could use to choreograph complete dances. Instead of 8 flourishes (well in actuality only 4 in most cases) We need dozens and dozens of simple basic steps. That would allow us to build a dance using a macro that would actually BE a dance unique to the person. I suspect it will be a LONG time coming if ever.
I agree with this as well, but believe that in the interim, actually 'finishing' the existing dances would be a huge step for our profession. In having at least 8 original flourishes for each dance, at least I could do what I call 'freelancing' without having to worry that I'll head into the wrong flourish and look like I've lost my mind because I go from a soft, flowing movement to my hips and arms gyrating as I spin, looking like I should be dancing to rock.
On more choreographed movements and shows, it would give us a bit of variety and spice to work with, changing between, say, exotic1, 2, 3 and 4 and choosing the most attractive flourishes. As it is now, I needn't bother in most cases, because the flourishes that do exist are so similar to those in the 'like' dances that there's no point.
When customers send OOC /tells asking if it is their computer or lag causing the jerkiness between my movements, then it's a noticable problem, and one that should be fixed.
What I'd *like* to see are some VERY distinct flourishes for each type of dance. Each of the exotics, for example, slow and erotic as they are now, but completely different styles - say with one offering the current movement styles, one focusing on stationary movements on the floor, one perhaps offering far more leg movement.
I agree that any sort of redesign of the moves or dances will be a LONG time in coming, but I certainly hope that finishing the dances that exist, and offering 8 moves for each and distinct differences between the basic and more advanced versions is a priority.
I'd also love to see some sort of 'specialization' tree in the future - a place for master dancers to move once they have achieved that goal. A different tree that includes specialized moves for a given dance type, and lights or movements that are specialized to it, further allowing us to personalize and provide a show that could distinguish us from others.
I get bored silly dancing exotic2. Is it just me or does it only have TWO flourishes? Flourish 1 and 2 are different, 3 is the same as 2 and then 4-8 are the boob shake thing from what, basic? I'm getting higher in dance skill only to be able to do less moves for my dances. I've been dancing lyrical the past 2 nights-at least that way I can practise the timing of lighting effects at the top of a jump or kick to make things interesting.
its you... Sorry this game isn't working out for you but a game with 275,000 players can't be doing everything wrong. Go play Final Fantasy because I'm seriously tried of all the people whining about how much this games sucks.
I love it, and this Jedi news has totally rekindled my interest in the FS slot.
...or do you guys think that a scythe should be a pikemans weapon. I'm not hating on the 2H swordsmen or anything because I am a pikeman and a 2H swordsman but a scythe is just a curved blade on the end of a long pole. Maybe a long vibro axe is our version of a scythe, but I do not know because I am on the Starsider server and the resources have not been implemented yet for this weapon , and therefore I have never seen one. ![]()

Woops I just posted about this, sorry I didn't see this post till after I submitted.
The way I understand it is Scythe is supposed to be our certification for master polearm specialization in the brawler profession. I've also been told by weapon smiths that it's not so much a matter of resources as it is that the schematic is missing.
Think about what a scythe looks like, then think about how it's held. It is NOT held like a 2h sword, it's held like a polearm, it's physically impossible to hold a Scythe like a 2h sword, they are too long.
A Scythe is a long pole with a curved blade on it used for harvesting wheat. It is so long and so heavy it has to be held like a polearm and obviously would be used in the same way as a polearm.
I apologize if 2h swordsmen will be dissapointed that they do not get to use the Scythe but from what I've seen it would make little sense to give 2 weapon certifications to 2h sword and at the same skill bar in polearm give none.
Sorry Swordsmen but it looks like Pikemen will be wielding the "ultra cool Scythe"....
