Thread: Is it just me...
...or are the exotic dances kind of boring? I am a master musician and novice dancer, and I have to say, I don't see the point in suffering through poplock2, popular2, a buggy lyrical dance just to get some slow hula dances? I mean, one or two exotic dances would be great... but how about an impressive looking master dance? Maybe there is one I haven't seen, but I think I've seen all the exotics and they aren't that impressive.
Anyone?
I don't know ... I really like Exotic 4 ... especially the flourishes.
But you are right. At the higher levels, I chose the dance based on what I want to do. Is it a private dance for a good customer, then Exotic dance ... am I with a band playing Rock, then Popular or such ... am I by myself with lots of room, then Lyrical.
So try picking the dance to the moment rather than just always smashing the highest dance key you have
Aye, lyrical needs help. It would be nice if all of the "2" dances had more than 4 macros, and if they were different enough from the first version to make sense.
The largest pain is when you NEED to be doing the highest level dance to gain XP at the highest rate for leveling, which leaves you stuck with the jerks between flourishes on Lyrical (not to mention the aforementioned circlewalk without), the lack of flourishes on some of them, formal that gives almost no option NOT to flourish, etc.
But the most hated flourish in the game for me is the stupid roll on the floor for lyrical. Even other dances think I've fallen, not to mention customers =(
I was chuckling about this very thing the other day when someone pointed out that I even fall gracefully. And it's ironic that I've joked with people in the past about falling--calling it a "special flourish," and now with lyrical, the fall really IS a flourish. ![]()
I love the exotic dances because they are slow and sexy. The only bad thing is the 4 flourishes. Hopefully they will fix it up and add the other 4 to it.
Also, customers tend to recognize the Exotic dance and understand that they will heal up faster by watching a dancer that is dancing that (since usually the dancers that can heal BF and wounds better are dancing it). This can result in better tips for you ![]()
Try to think of them differently.
Don't think of them as Dances. Think of each style as a TOOL in your Dancing toolbox. Use movement across the floor, turns, and (in here anyway) Verbalizations to build a DANCE routine. Crawling, kneeling, Prone, Sit, various emotes, the words you choose, specila effects AND dance styles are some of the tools you have to work with. But the dance Style is ONLY one tool among many.
Think out WHAT you want to acheive with your Dance. Eroticism, Joy, Comedy, Drama, whatever. Decide WHAT your dance is about, WHAT you're trying to convey and communicate.
THEN and ONLY then start looking at your toolbox and selecting components with which to build your routine. Put together a basic outline and then TRY it. Preferably someplace private where you can experiment with blending the components smoothly. Next have someone observe and provide feedback. Explain WHAT you're trying to do and accept criticism gracefully. Continue to refine and develop your Dance until you feel confident about it and can preform it as well as possible given the constraints we are under.
Finally Perform!
Once you start performing it be prepared to observe and respond to feedback from your audience. DON'T fall into the trap of thinking that YOU'RE right and they simply are not sophisticated enough to appreciate what you're doing. If you're a Rich Dancer and don't NEED tips or audience acclaim then dance any way you want. If you DO seek to Entertain an audience then be prepared to adjust and modify your Dance to what they CAN and DO understand and appreciate. If they don't understand it then YOU are at fault, not them.
While I agree that you can do a lot with the "tools"Flawed Diamondhas mentioned... do you really feel that the dance profession skill tree has been finished??! On exotic 4 I have 2 original flourishes, 6 that don't match the dance and 1 that is borrowed from exotic2 ...which just happens to be almost the same exact dance as exotic3.(I'm not even going to go into the buggy lyrical and formal). Again, exotic 3 has 2 original flourishes.... sigh... We have all worked really hard on our characters, and I find it hard to believe that a Master Dancer would know less moves on the new dances, than he/she did as a brand new apprentice.
I am fully disappointed with every dance I have learned since Novice Dancer... (popular 2 is an exception). Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy this profession, and I work the floor with the best of them, but it would be nice to have some new moves. Plus, I really am not one to sit all day and write a macro for a dance routine. I prefer to flourish as I go most of the time, and follow the mood of my customers. Don't get me wrong, I think what Flawed Diamond does is great, but what about those of us that don't take the routines as seriously as we take other things?
I am now at the point where I am dancing only because I enjoy the interaction with the patrons, and they truly appreciate the fact that I can heal most of them in 2 minutes or less, leaving them free to go out and hunt. Iwould really appreciate some new flourishes to keep myself and others entertained.

Honey, don't take this wrong. I hope you don't. But if you DON'T take your dancing seriously then...why be a Dancer at all?
I DON'T mean that as any kind of put down. I'm asking it as a serious question. If you don't want to spend time putting together a dance and entertaining your customers then why? I AM curious.
I mean Architects put in a LOT more time building a single large house than I have spent on woring on my routines.
Different people have different goals in MMORPGs. Some people want to be 'known,' some people want to know everything, some people want to have all the great stuff, some people just like being social, some people just want to bungle along at their own pace. There are as many legitimate reasons to play an MMOG as there are people who play them. Everyone determines where their 'fun' is, and what is 'fun' to one person might be unfun to someone else.
So her definition of whatis fun and engaging about being a dancer is different from yours, Flawed... that doesn't make her reason for playing less legitimate.
