Yes, you have to be sitting in the Captain's Chair for that to work, but I don't think it's worthless. I was glad we had that feature. I understand your desire to move about the ship during flight though, and I would support an auto-pilot mechanism while out of the chair. The real issue is not the mechanism, it's switching between the character interface and the ship interface I think. If the ship was allowed to operate in the character mode, then how ould combat operate? Would it be turn based, or real time? Would macros work in a real-time mode? Not likely. Not sure how they would do that.

Even if auto pilot would let you out of your seat it is screwed up. As soon as I choose auto-pilot I do a half roll and the ship turns off into some crazy direction. NOT heading to where I want to go. The waypoint just gets further and further away. So even in my seat I cannot use autopilot.
If I am doing something wrong someone please tell me. Thanks.
Oh yeah I think we should be able to get up out of our seat as well. Once the DEVs fix this it should NOT require a droid or anything. It's an inherint part of ship function. Just to keep it in line with the movies.

You probably have a joystick.
If I detach the joystick from my system, autopilot works. If I connect it again, autopilot is broken.
A shame, I would like to have both. But, all things considered, I must say this has been a pretty smooth expansion launch for SOE.

I don't own a joystick.
