Ok, so I am in ny yacht and set my coordinates for a point of interest, say, the Federation Hulk. I get up out of my seat, just like Han Solo did in ANH, and my ship stops moving.
What gives? Since when does Autopilot mean "sit behind the controls and star at an oversized panel?" Not like I can really see where I am going, with that dashboard in the way...

I havent tested this, but I dont think it stops moving, you just cant see the animation out the windows of the ship moving...

Mmmm...I agree. I wish you could set up a macro that would cycle through a list of coordinates so your ship could pass by nebulaes, space stations and the like for your entire ship party to see.

This was an issue in Beta, I believe they are still working on it. But yes, if you don't have a Pilot, your ship will stop and just float in space.

No, it actually stops. Many people argued for a change to the autopilot system during beta, but I guess the developers were a bit too busy with more important stuff.
As it is now, the autopilot is not much of an autopilot. It's more of a cruise control mode, since you can't leave the seat.

Actually - I'm OK with this as long as there is an option to have an astromech, droid or purchaseable auto-pilot do the job for you. I'd very much have liked "autopilot" to be a "component" - in a game like this, components can effectively serve as buffs for your ship - and fit right in line with the movies - by extending your total damage absorption, requiring replacement, repairs, etc.
Maybe in the next expansion they'll add all kinds of systems to ships that you can populate with diff equipment to customize your ship - but primarily to let you increase, effectively, its HAM. I kinda like the idea of being in my cruiser with a group on board, and having a role for an "artisan"/"engineer" to try and manage the repair droid/astromechs, and to fix systems that become damaged in particular ways, requiring them to actually run around the ship to the relevant piece of equipment. Do they repair the failing shield generator or rush to the air recyclers. They have to keep life-support running well or group members start to take ham damage when bolts penetrate the shields.

you know how much us DE's wanted droids to actually be important in JTL?
We wanted them to do stuff like be necessary to hyperspace, do small inflight repairs, shift reactor energy from shields to weapons, etc. But NOOOO! the devs HAD to make droids simply an option, not a neccesity for many in space tasks like they should be.

(Caution: Take pinch of salt, dry humor, follow the links if you don't get it)
Sounds like Billy is starting to see thru the old mythos that the SWG team were somehow the cream of MMOG creation gathered from the far corners of the universe that SOE hype and some grognards have held them to be, when they're really a bunch of rookies trying hard and making this up as they go and going with the wild-ass crazy ideas that are so cool they're guaranteed to be fun.
Your droid engineer class, sir, is "cool". Therefore it is fun. Maybe SOEs next secret project is Raph's game where players work to discover the cure for cancer (http://www.damnedvulpine.com/archives/002554.html) and you can be the guy with the pink latex gloves who prepares the little blue vials of genetic samples. That should be (http://www.legendmud.org/raph/gaming/index.html) fun

yup..you get up out of your pilots seat your ship comes to a dead stop.
I hope this changes eventually so that you can set the auto pilot and leave the pilots station to wander about your ship.
