Now, neither SW or Smuggler are professions that are gonna make me any money from the get go and I find it disturbing that as a pilot, I'm making, oh, about 1500-2500 credits a mission that takes quite a bit of time to complete. That's lame. If the entire path to master pilot is gonna be quest based, then make it so we get decent compensation for doing missions. As it is, I have to spend hours in space just to make a couple hundred credits. They should at least include space mission terminals as a way to make some decent money. Is doing Janta/Mokk missions( which, keeping my template in mind, I will most likely never be able to do) missions the only way to make money in this game? Just my two cents...
BTW...How come the Hutt ships don't get the cool little engine glow that is visibleon imp and reb ships?
what the hell you shooting at? I made 180,000 credits in space yesterday shooting down hutt and other faction ships. Only the Imperial ships are cheapskates.

Not only should you get out of your starter ship quickly, but start hitting some of the POIs in the starting zones (Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine). You'll find some tier 2 spawns that drop more credits. Soon you'll be randomly flying around and looking for fights, and before you know it you'll have picked up a good 10-12k credits.

I don't know about everyone else, but when I was in Beta, I would make a killing as a pilot. I would not do crappy missions though. I would find a spawn location with some tough NPCs that would drop 1k per kill and I would kill them pretty quick. I could walk away with 80k in 30 min. Not the same as the ground game, but still pretty good. And every now and then I would get some good loot that had the game been live, would have sold for 100-500k.

As someone indicated repairs are inexpensive. I pulled up to a star base with about 10% left in my forwardarmour expecting to get hit with a huge bill. This was my first repair in space... total charge... 76 credits.

Money in space basically comes from grinding, I probably made a few mil over the course of my beta time from raising all the xp needed to master pilot. Trick is to not waste time on duty missions, you should go off hunting in a rich spawn area to level that xp until you next mission for a skill opens up. You till don' get tons per kill, but you kill so much it adds up quick. I hunted the same ships from pilot 1/1/1/1 until I was 4/4/4/4, they were only 1152 xp per kill (some were 6k) but I killed them real fast, plus it was a lot of loot and the credits added up, after a session I'd usually come away with like 40k credits each time, which adds up quick.

At least there is another voice in the choir. I am in the same boat, started an alt who has no credits, no benefactor....and can't afford beans.
And let me tell you, there is a BIG difference between fighting tier 1 targests and fighting nunas. A tier 1 chassis costs 25k. I have never payed 25k even for an FWG5, much less a pistol capable of taking out nunas. THAT'S the difference between space and ground, and space should pay out accordingly.

I at least have to agree that space terminals would be a big improvement.
What I would rather see is stations that we could actually dock, board, and get new missions from personell on board. It would really be a nice touch to be able to see the person that shows up on the comm window in 3d.

2k for a mission is fair, its the greed of the common player that is making weapons and ship prices so high. If people were making things for fun and pride instead of making 100% profit the economy would not be so out of whack. Also when the ground game is fixedplayers can't solo high level mobs and groups are needed 2k a mission is all you will get on dant anyway.
Just my 2 cents (pence in my country)

If the "fix" to the ground game is forced grouping I will cancel my account instantly.
Of course, I bought JTL to get away from the hated ground game and turn-based combat. But I find I cannot make enough money in space to pay for my first ship. Sure, everyone says the money is there later, but a player has to get to that point.
Devs, make space pay better, at least at the intro level! Pilot should be a self-sufficient profession!
