Ignore the gunboats completely. You don't have to engage them to disable the vette. After Gun 5 is down take out the shields from the front. With the Shields down the engine is exposed. Approach from the rear and below, dodge the fire from the gunboats, hit the vette engine, escape to the bottom and away, use Cap-shunt to save you from fire from the gunboats. With the engines on the vettegone the gunboats will drift away as if they were still flying escort on a moving vette. Let them drift off... when they are safely away attack the remaining guns of the vette from below, remember, the guns won't be able to fire at you from below but you will still be able to hit them if you can see the tops of the guns. Remove all guns... you have all the time in the world, the engines are gone it can't go anywhere.... get reactor, get bridge... congratulations. Now track down those gunboats that escaped any dispatch them... remember the trick that gunboats can't fire at you till you break 540m while you can hit them between 540-560m. Good luck.

As for the escorts... your first targets to dispatch should always be the Agressors. If you can't get a good shoot lined up from behind to take out their turrets then start jousting of them. Just be carefull when jousting that you don't line up the other fighters behind you when you're boostering away to line up your runs.

I've always had a hard time hitting the shields with guns... aren't they on the "shoulders"?

Also doesn't this put you in direct fire of all the remaining guns on the vette?

Sounds like I'll be taking a lot of punishment on the two shield runs...

The Shields are on the shoulders behind the bridge compartment. If you line up at a distance from the front and below you can move in and destroy them both in one attack pass... just make sure to stay below the centreline ofthe vetteand no vette gun will be able to hit you. In most cases the gunboats will be tailing in behind so they won't be able to get a clear shot on you. Even if they are to the sides in most cases your front and below approach will put the vette between you and them. A good trick in telling if you are below the vette is to count the number of "pimples". If there are 4 large ones' beware, it's the top and they are the guns... if there are about 12 small ones then you arein a position beneath the vette.

Use thesame approach for the engines asindicated above but change your position to rear and below. I find that for some reason the gunboats never seem to get shots in on my engine approaches. Be ready to slam Cap-Shunt if possible and if it gets real heavy then slam IFF Scrambler to break agro. Never, everfinish your attack runs by going up, always escape down and booster away. An upward escape is a sure-fire way togetting sentback to Dantooine.

Final bit of advice: If on your attack run you find the Vette starting to turn cancel your run and get out fast. The vette is very unpredictable when it reaches a turn point. Wait for it to settle down and then reposition yourself for your run.

Ended up taking the thing out last night with the help of 3 other people.

First we took out the escort. It's tons easier when the ships are distributed amongst everyone (man I hate those Aggressors).

Then while they were attacking the gunships and distracting the vette, I tookout gun5 and finished it offin a couple of missile runs.

1 missile for the shield.
1 for the secondary shield.
1 for the engines
2 for the reactor
1 for the bridge

Sure, this is the chicken way out (using missiles) but man did that make things much easier.

I cleaned up 1 of the gunboats later. Couldn't find the other one so I assumed it was probably destroyed by the other guys...

If you were still getting hit by corvette guns after gun5 was gone, then you've missed a key point. Stay underneath the corvette!

The rule is: big lumps bad, little lumps good. Stay on the side with the little lumps on the midsection after gun 5 is gone, and unless she turns you will never ever get shot at by the corvette.

I tend to use 3space bombson my corvette runs, 1 each for the shields, and 1 for the reactor. Shooting gun 5, the engine and the Bridge are all too easy to waste a missile with.

I saw someone once take out gun 5, make distance then go for gun 4 straight from the top. Send him a tell at dant space station half a second later asking why the hell he did that. He was "trying" something new. Was good for a laugh.

I like a challenge so I use cannons, no missiles or guided bombs.

I actually let the ship im using decide my tactics. I don't put cap ship ordinance in light fighters, and I don't hesitate to load bombs in heavy ships. I'm like Ducimus though, when I want it done and over with, I bring the boom.

Haha, I'm thinking of making a strike bomber just for the heck of it. Put some ridiculous engine in a ship and a space bomb launcher

The Vette Strategies are good, and accurate, using thevette strategiesi took out 2 vettes in Kashyyyk today with Treena but i must say the gunboat strategies are off, as we discovered, back and below at 550m doesnt work too well, the back turret still can hit you. Treena Discovered coming up at it directly underneath the gunboat and its helpless, it cant even get off a shot, after you take out the engine from that position, its as good as dead. She showed me and i tried it, and it was easy as heck that way, so if your having problems you might want to try that way.
