Thread: Imperial corvette Rebel master mission

*COUGH*
Uhh no, its not soloable! Infact you need a whole armada of ships to do it! Its like... harder than a draon in EQ.. were talking a major raid here. HUGE!!! Its like SUPER HARD!
umm ya....
*points to vette guide in sig*

It is soloable. A friend of mine did it in his regular non-advancedX-Wing. First, head to the vette spawn point, kill all the escort fighters, then drop 550m behind the gunboats and kill them one by one, and afterthat you can work on the vette bystarting with gun no.5 first so you can drop behind it safely. Kill its engine as soon as you can target itto prevent it from hyperspacing. Youneed cap shield shunt and cap overcharge programs to make the job easier.
I've got some new tactics that I'd like to try, but I think it should be easily soloable.
1. Blast the escorts.
2. If I remember right, the gunboats and vette don't start shooting you until you hit them first, so leave them alone.
Note: If (2) works, then this is where it gets really easy.
3. Fly under the vette, match speed, target gun 5, and take it out. You'll get beat up a little during this.
4. Stay under the vette and use missiles to take out the primary and secondary shield generators.
5. Slowly lower speed and let the vette go over you, then take out the engines with your guns.
6. Get back under the vette and use missiles to blow up the cockpit.
I've yet to try this, though, as I did my Ace mission when Kessel was a PvP zone so I had to bring a massive army with me to fend off the rebel Ace PvPers who were out to spoil your fun.
I did use steps (2) through (5) to get my Heavy X-wing (the mission where you have to disable a vette).
I used a different method to get the Crimson Interceptor, but don't recommand it as you get pretty beat up and it doesn't work as reliably as this method.

I've done it in a heavy Scyk with a single L10 gun, no missiles, and no out of range camping on the gunboats.
It takes practice, and you need to know your targets well.
BTW, vette shoots at you regardless. Gun range is 1000 meters.
For the other poster (i forget who)
You have to do turret 5 before the gunboats. Turret 5 gives gunboats covering fire.
You can do with without missles, but i use them because im lazy, and i want it done faster. If i do the vette, i just want it done with and out of the way as fast as possible, cause im sick and tired of doing the damn thing

Hehe, my plan was a combination of some stuff I read as well as stuff that I've tried...
It's been a long time since I did the vette mission (got ace in the first week of JtL)... guess they just didn't attack me (unless I attacked first) because they were too busy blowing away my bstrike.
Later today I'll be doing the vette mission again to finish the reb pilot boxes.
Not looking forward to this as gunboats and I don't really get along.

Itis so much more fun to do it this way
The method of attack depends upon the number in the contingency. If you have a group then you will want to take out the fighter coverage first (Oppressors, Agressors, Interceptors). Move in and try to draw them from the Vette, you do not want to be dog fighting in range of the vette's guns (1000m). Ignore the gunboats completely.
Once the fighters are down it's now time to attack the Vette from the front. The Vette only has one gun that can target you from below (GUN NUMBER 5). It is located in the centre of the shoulders just behind the bridge area. Start from in front, wait for the vette to level out after a jagged turn (abort your run if it starts do this) and approach from below (you can tell what the underside is because it looks like it has about 12 "pimples", the top side has 4 large ones, these are the topside guns). Once you are in range of the gun you can actually manoeuver to avoid their shoots, simple when you see a shoot coming up turn away from it (the manoeuverability of your craft will help to determine success). Target the Gun 5 Component, when you see a reticle fall on it open fire... the guns don't take a lot to gun down and they are outside of the shield effect, ie. they take damage as if you were hitting them directly. With gun 5 down push over, turn to the front and crank the booster and get out of there, gunships hit at 540m, get away from them. Again, you don't need to destroy the gunboats.
With Gun 5 down your next job of taking out the shield generators will be alot easier. The shield generators are located on opposite sides on the shoulder of the section behind the bridge compartment. Can't remember which side secondary is on but I believe it is on the right. Line up with the front of the vette and below, approach, target shield component, angle up as you approach, open fire... you may be able to take it down on the first approach if you are not using space bombs or have a weapons overload program install. Destroyed or not, angle down, booster out, get out of range of the gunboats. Repeat till the shield generator is destroyedl Repeat on the opposite side for the other generator. Once the shield generator are out then the engines are exposed.
Engines: the gunboats are most likely going to be tailing in the wake of the vette, you'll have to brave their fire to hit the shields. If you have space bombs then things get easier. Approach from the rear and below, angle up at the engines and hit the throttle to full, head for the engines. If the gunboats starting firing slam your IFF scrambler to confuse their fire and to make for a safe entrance to range on the engines. The engines will be like 12 hit boxes but they only go to one engine component... when in range unleash hail, hell and brimstone... when you start taking alot of shield damage booster down and under the vette and get past 540m of the gunboats, in most cases if you hug the underside of the vette you'll be using it as a shield. Repeat run until the engines are out... now... with the engines gone you have a sitting duck, dead in space, and all the time in the world. Pull away and let the gunboats drift off along the normal path they would take with a live vette. As I said, you don't have to worry about the gunboats.
So you have the corvette dead and the gunboats have drifted off... now it's time to take care of the topside guns. As I've indicated the top guns can't fire below the horizon of their turrets... but you can see them and fire on them below this horizon, they only have a vertical firing arc of 180 degrees. The first guns to hit will be 6 and 7, these will be in the space just forward of the engines in the spot where you would normally see the docking entrance. They are located on the side so your best approach is from the rear bottom heading along the centreline of the ship. Get into position under the ship and within range of 6 or 7 and cut throttles to zero. Manoeuver and target the gun... down goes 6... move... down goes 7. Top guns left. Creep slow to the side and start inching upwards... once you can see the top of the guns that will be 1,2,3,4,0...open fire, down goes 1... move slowly keeping below the horizon of the guns... take down 2, move to the other side under the bottom of the vette, take down 3.. then 4.... and finally 0... it's all about small movements to just get the top of the guns into sight... at no risk to yourself.
Now that the guns are down... time to hit the reactor. This will be in the top middle of the engine section. Approach from the top... it may require a sharp angle to hit them... it's a bit of trial and error... target the reactor component... fire... done.
Now... the bridge... easy... you see that big window in the front of the bridge compartment? Yup... that big fat window where everybody inside is crapping bricks... move to the front, target.... fire... congratulations... corvette has been destroyed... Enjoy your new Master's helmets and ships.

Please clean up the gunboats. They block the spawn and are a pain in the butt to kill at the endpoint.
Agreed... I always make a note to clean up the gunboats after the vette kill. You can back track along the Vette path and/or catch them tumbling together at the vette despawn. A vette mission should never be considered complete until you've cleaned up after yourself. Until those gunboats and remaining fighters are dispatched then no new vette will enter the system...

I got owned last night... twice ![]()
Any pointers on doing this mission?
First time around, I tooke out the escort, gun 5 on the vette, and 1 gunboat. I couldn't kill the second gunboat because it was riding the vette and the vette was blasting me to smitherees each time i got close enough to fire at the gunboat.
Second time around, I just couldn't get past the escort. With 2 Tier 5 aggressors beating on me with their magic turrets at the same time it was just too much for my poor ship to handle.
Any pointers on getting past this mess solo?
Last time I did it (imp pilot), I had an assault group with me... but this time (reb pilot) I'm just not making any headway.
