Your origional character should just be able to buy a special kind of droid, which would in turn open up the droid character slot. I think droids should be limited in certain professions, but then again have advantages in others (and I agree, no droid Jedi).

Interesting idea, but imagine all the droids that would be running around, acting like they own the place. 
Cyborgs, on the other hand...that would kick serious booty.

Don't worry, im sure it's gonna be an expansion pack someday, just like jump to lightspeed. It's gonna have to be because if you were a droid , your health, resourcers , armor, eveyrthing would have be completely different.LOTS of stuff to change.It probablly won't happend for a while, but it will eventually.

Sincenearlyeverything in SWG isbased on the Star Wars RPG from West End Games back from years ago, I would say that having droids as a playable character is very possible since there are guidelines in West End'sStar Wars RPG core rulebook on players playing them as characters. There are some interesting benefits and limitations when playing a droid. I am willing to bet the the devswill use this information as a guideline if they ever make droids playable.
