guys, this discussion has nothing to do with PVE balance. it has to do with PVP balance.

Hehe, it should be about both, because both ways, us imps are getting the shaft!

You're taking a short-range view of the situation.

On each tier, the ships are not equivalent. That's because each ship has a different role. So of course the Y-Wing has more mass than a TIE or TIE/In. The Y-wing is a bomber, and the TIE is a fighter. Your TIE is also far more manuverable.

The payoff for the lower mass for Imperial ships comes in tier 3, when we get the TIE bomber. Our bomber has 190k mass, more than any non-MP ship.

The result of these differences is that each profession ends up with a different style.

Ok devs, seriously

Fix the mass on imperial ships.

Tier 3 ships get maxed out with tier 2 equipment.

I've been bringing this subject up since beta, but apparently you are BLIND.

how is it that the tier one ships for all three sides are as follows on mass

imp 20,000

privateer 75,000

rebel 150,000

I can fit all the LvL 3 best stuff into my 20k Tie Fighter, you do not need more mass at this LvL.

For Tier 2 you will get a TIE/IN that will have 40k mass and it will also hold all you LvL5 Components (you will need a few loot comps since they can have 1/3 the mass of player crafted comps).

Now trust me, I was in beta also and a Tie/In is not a bad ship and it will fly circles around a Ywing. Also the Tier 1 150k Ywing has one major flaw.....you need a second person to operate the second gun turret. That is your trade off.

In beta I did Alliance Pilot and mass was nice along the way, the I saw a list of ships and their mass and thought the imps got totally screwed with the TIE series. I really hope they get a good buff.

Ever noticed how when you stick one engine with 52.3 speed in one chassis, you can go 450, but stick that same engine in a lighter chassis, you can go 700? The level of components haveless effect than you thinkon the pilot's ability, or the ship performance for that matter.

Also, I've seen some level 6 components that are better than level 10 components. Sure, it'll take some time and some looking, and maybe a little luck on the loot, but you can outfit a ship in level 6 components that will run circles around a level 10 outfitted ship.

Just my 2 credits.

funny you should mention that.

when I upgraded to a TIE Interceptor, I put all the old components I had in my TIE/in...

Interceptor went faster.

so uh... EEEEHHHTTTT WRONG!

thanks for the support guys. they really need to fix these issues badly. for those who disagreed, well I think you're wrong.

the bombers having more mass is a good thing? uhm... ok so we'll have bombers that are faster than fighters.. yeah thats cool.

oh, and the longprobe Y-Wing (the 2 seater) is a tier 2 ship, not the tier 1 ship that I was referring to.

and about the 5 mil mass ships... this is exactly what the devs said we would NOThave to deal with. having everybody need to take the master ships to use the good equipment and be able to compete in pvp.

for those of you who paid attention in beta, there was a huge group of the community that wanted the devsto remove mass entirely.

I'm one of those people.

there are already enough checks and balances in the system to keep us from using equipment until we are certified.

if they want mass still in, make it unlimited, but make the moremassbeing used up ina ship lower its top speed and manueverability.

these 2 changes coupled with the inherent ship mods would cover all the bases.

I think that if they doubled the mass on all TIE fighters we'd be happy

That's because the Tie-Int has a higher speed mod on the *CHASSIS* than a Tie-In given the same mass.

I just got a Tie-Int and tried to fill it with good equipment. I ran out of mass (lousy thing only holds 50k) before I could put a booster, droid interface, and missile launcher in there.

I was hoping that the Tie-Int was going to be my final ship (like in beta) but at 50k mass I'll definately have to move up to something else when I get the chance because there's no way this is making it to level 10.

This is true, but one inherent problem of low level components is that while the stats may be high, their hitpoints will be extremely low.

What this means is that they'll get destroyed much faster through combat and you'll lose them much more quickly to decay (this is a permanent loss... it has to be thrown out after this).

Just my few cents but would the old mechwarrior way of combining mass and components work well here? Maybe, in the mechwarrior every mech could carry a certain mass, just like ships, and they could hold only carry weapons that fit in the available slots and was under the max weight. So in effect only certain mechs could use certain weapons and it kept everyone from using just the biggest ones around as some smaller ones could carry some other weapon loadout more suited to what the player wanted.

So to put in the swg jtl ships thiss effect we could have some weapons that only fit in the x-wing/tie int. class and some that only fit into the a-wing or some into the hutt fighters and so on. So in effect it forces the player to choose the best ship to suit the mission not just the biggest thing out there with the most weaponry.

ok yeah, so TIE fighters are smaller than a Y-Wing... granted.

the fact is, lvl 8 engines weigh more than a TIE Interceptor.

So think about it. at master rebels are all going to be able to put all lvl 10 equipment in all of their ships AND outnumber imps. Imps will be stuck with lvl 6ish equipment and be outnumbered to boot.

FIX

IT

I agree the mass ratios don't seem to be equivalent, however, I do know that the tier 3 and 4 rebel ships (xwing and awing) do not have the same max mass as the ywings. So they are not able to put lvl 10 equip in 'all' their ships, but are able to put higher level equipment in a ship they get earlier in the piloting skill tree.

Doesn't the TIE Bomber have a 150k max mass? Both it and the Ywing are supposed to be the bomber ships.

Try flying a TIE bomber .... the Y-wing owns it in manuverability.

The TIE bombers guns don't even fire straight, as if you could hit anything in the first place.

It IS a bomber, but that is the only thing it can do is bomb capital ships. You won't see anyone doing missions with a TIE bomber, we have to put up with the A-wings on every mission, and they tear TIE bombers apart like so much bantha fodder.

I do find it interesting that the A-wing vastly outmanuvers and outruns the interceptor, yet still has 30k more mass.
