hmmm....rifleman Well, first you need to build up the rifle tree in marksman. No special instructions for that. Just find a decent rifle to start with. I've seen some good DLT-20A's that have around a 50-150 dmg and good speed. Once you reach the 3rd skill box ( I believe....been awhile ) you can start using the laser rifle. This will be your ole' standby and goto gun. You'll be using it for a long time. Once you get all 4 skill boxes, it's time to level your way to novice rifleman ( Sidenote- the ranged support tree is very helpful. It gives you better aim and warning shot, which can be very useful in leveling up) Hunting in groups will help, so you can gain xp quicker by letting others tank large creatures while you peg it from afar. Alright, ( please excuse breifness, I'm trying to give quick advice ) so now you're a novice rifleman. I believe you should get the conceal shot skill box first. This is a wonderful weapon, for you can peg high level creatures for massive xp and have a chance of not being aggroed. You need that chance, because until you reach master, youy combat abilities with a rifle basically suck . It's important to remember that the first 3 trees use rifle xp, the 4th uses combat xp, so you are always earning xp for the 4th tree. The rifle xp is split among the other 3. The 4th tree is very important, in that it gives you speed, which rifles painfully lack. If the oppurtunity presents itself, buy alot of C12 light frag grenades. All except wookies are cert. for them, from start. If you can group hunt, lobbing them at high level creatures while others tank will get you massive amounts of combat xp for the 4th tree. You'll have to rely on what you kill with your rifle for the rest. At novice rifleman level, you should also look into other types of rifles. A FAST T-21 ( they are notoriously slow) can be fun to use sometimes, and even useful. You should also investigate the SG-82 and jawa rifle (cold and stun dmg.) for use on creatures who are vulnerable to them. Rifleman is a L-O-N-G grind, so any help you get from specail dmg. weapons is preffered. Anyway, after you get conceal shot, then you should immediately drop that tree and move to the other 2. I chose the sniper tree first (had accuracy mods and more special moves), but the other tree gives you great area attacks. Some people swear by them. I reccomend looking closely at both tree's and deciding what would be the most fun for you. I think they both have their perks . I'm sure you have read other threads in the rifle area, so you have probably learned alot about rifle already. Good luck, and keep in touch with the rifle forums. Someone will eventually answer your questions

Thanks much for the replies!

Just one fast question before I start to work on it (made first rifle box so far, and have combat exp I can use). I know rifle has a penalty up close; do you typically switch out for another weapon when the mob gets close? Should I just switch to pistol since I still have some skill or will that mess up rifle experience?

At master, you dont have to worry about distance. You can walk right up to a lair of graul maulers with 9K+ HAM and flatten them all within 30 secs with strafeshot 2. Before master,RM isntthe bestbut the grind pays off when you get there. The spraystick work great on mobs that get too close before you get to master. You will also get into the habit of "kiting" a fair bit as well . But thats all part of the fun that is the RM grind. Get concealshot early on and use this a fair bit if youare patient. U can roleplay as a sniper in PvE with this.

Get buffed, load up on brandy and do quenkers on Dant. At about 20K+ XP per lair, you will be working up the RM tree in no time. Buy cheap rifles (you would be amazed at what you can pickup on the bazaar for 6K and under) and use these to grind. Power them up, spam specials and buy another one when its munted. Some of my best rifles have been second hand ones I have purchased on the bazaar.

Well im not going to get into how to get started or anything but i'll tell you why i think rifleman is a decent choice. I recently mastered the profession a few days ago and yes it does own in pve but the real reason why i like the profession so much is because i love to pvp. As you know the most common armor is composite and the resists for composite armor can reach as high as 80% for each type of dmg except stun. Composite is vuln against stun althoughArmorsmiths can add stun resistance but the most i have seen is around 37% (thats on my server so i wouldn't think your server is any different).Im sure from there you can do the math, headshot 3 since mind can't be healed unlessyour enemies roll with a combat medic. My other choice would be a fencer since they can use stun batons but then again it all depends onif you are using your character to pveor pvp. Im not sure how well fencers do in pve but they own in pvp from what ive seen.

Don't even worry about being a Jedi if your brand new. Just learn how to make money and play the game first. If all you want to be is Jedi, your gonna quit quite fast in certain fustration.

Faster than what? What are you doing now that you want to go faster in? Have you checked the medic FAQ to see what's the best way?

Unfortunately, there's nothing in that tree that gives very high amounts of XP. Therefore, I set up my macro and did Stimpack-A's the entire way up. Only takes an hour or two. If you don't like slow grinding on things that don't give you much XP, you might want to take a closer look at what BE requires.......

I think the fastest way to get to org. Chem 4 is still practicing on Bio effect controllers or maybe Stimpack As. Both use the same basic resources, the BEC a few less though. It's really not that much of work. Get several k of some inorganic resource and the same amount of organic resources and have a nice little grinding-afternoon somewhere. It shouldn't be that hard to get.

Sorry, I am new. Could someone post a clicky on what sort of Civillian Ships there are available?

I do not worship The Emperor. I merely admire how he used the corruption of the present to create an equally corupt future that was exactly the same, except, this time, he was in charge.
