the thing with the ai, before in beta i felt like i was truely dog fighting, the enemy ai was doing sharp turns to get behind me, i was having to manuver quick and try to reverse it..... with this current ai instead of trying to get behind me, the ship just zooms off 500m and turns head on..... ??? thats not dog fighting.... i want the ship to try to tail me, not run away so i have to try to shoot him at 500m.... (also that exposes his tail to fire big time... i usualy just throw a bunch of punches in there) also they seem to all have had engine upgrades...Use boosters.
ive tried using boosters, they still seem to go slightly faster... also boosters take a bit longer to regen... and they arnt using boosters unless they got a never ending booster...
another thing i noticed, when they are flying around not attacking, they are just cruising at speeds that i can easily catch up and overrun them... second that i hit them with a laser though, bam, major boost...

All NPC ships except the POVs and possibly the bombers use the jousting tactic, they basically fly at you, turn around behind you, fly away to about 500-1000 meters, then fly straight back at you. The AI is even more predictable than the old AI. The speed upgrade was extremely stupid too. I've brought down a scyk to 3% engine condition, guess what? It was STILL flying about 3-4 meters per second faster than my Y-Wing. Now that's just plain rediculous.
Why does it seem the AI altogether in SWG sucks? I can crawl right by a stormtrooper who's directly facing me without getting shot at. In the corvette destroy mission (not the JtL one, the boarding a corvette one), We kept getting killed trying to get to the bridge. After getting incapped, I stood up, ran through a few hallways and a cargo bay, all filled with stormies, and got almost all the way to the bridge without getting shot. That's just plain stupid.

The AI is worse than before the patch. I can target engines and take em out when they flt straight at me in 1 pass 100% of the time. The thing thats stupid is I would prefer to chase them but the Dev's gave the ships some super engines that players don't have so they pull away from any ship. So now you have one option sit in middle and kill ships as they come straight at you. At least before I felt like I was dog fighting. Now I feel like I am exploiting a poor AI that cheats.
Tonight I got a hard lesson in this super-engine AI situation...
I was doing a Tier 4 RSF Escort duty mission, and it spawned about 4 Tier 5 Borvo Dunelizards, which I was able to defeat handily. They did a little damage to my shields, but otherwise, it was an easy fight (I have a very nice ship). Then about 3 Tier 4 Scyks spawned. I was able to kill one in about 2-3 minutes, but by then, 5 more spawned. I knocked off 2 more in 5 minutes. In that 5 minutes, 7 more spawned. By the time I got into the fresh spawns, I had 13 Scyks against me, all impossible to hit. My ship got shredded in seconds like I was a Tier 1 scrub.
This "super-engine" thing is killing me. When I'm killing Tier 5's of one kind like clockwork, but Tier 4's of another kind have super-powered engines and are able to turn my finely tuned ship into a pile of scrap...you have a problem. I want smart A.I., but I'd like to fight ships at least in the same range as me. I don't want to fight pieces of crap, nor do I want to fight Super-fighters. If I have to fight 3-5 vs. 1, the ships should be even speed/capability with mine, because the numbers balance the odds. But 3-5 ships that are at least 50-100% faster than me is not a fair fight, it's suicide.
Well the problem with your senario is that, in the statedsituation, you are required, by mission peramters (I'm guessing), to defeat all comers or face mission failure and no credit for the mission. In a real situation, if faced with superior numbers and superior machines, you'd evade burn tail out of there ASAP. You also probably wouldn't be sent on some of these missions solo either.

Ok how can you say this new tactic is better? The old tactic they tried to get behind you and ram you in the face which made fighting a-wings easier because as they come at you, you take out most of their engines and then they tried to get behind you with 10% engines handeling worst then my Rihr or whatever that slow @$$ thing is called.
Now that was easy

I don't know. Headon shots don't seem to do damge to them most of the time.

Could be that your shooting at the reticle and when flying straight at you the reticle doesn't go on the correct possition. I tried it as they were coming shot at the reticle..... no dmg...... shot at the actual hull took out their engines

AI did get dumber more suicidal, but on test center this has been fixed, and they no longer show the jousting behaviour, now when this will go live they don't seem to want to throw us a bone.

In a ship with relatively heavy shields and armor, this A-wing tactic is actually much easier to defeat now. I just slow down to an almost-stop and shoot them head-on as they fly at me. I usually target the Engine.
In an Oppressor I have better shields and armor than they do, plus I have two guns so I can usually disable them on one or two jousting volleys, then close in and blow them up.
I actually found it much more tedious before--it would take around 10 minutes to defeat a single A-wing, chasing it endlessly until I could get enough hits in.
O.
Glad to see other people have figured this out. I was wondering how Imps were doign it. I think most rebs just use a longprobe, its what im using now at any rate.
