I really agree with this guys proprosal, however, i've posted this before. Let me show u whatI posted:

Number-1-Commandowrote:

I have posted about real voice chat, it would be more accessible than teamspeak... because on teamspeak you have to make a server, make rooms, tell people about your room that is going to be in your group... and then have 56k people download teamspeak just to be in your group... as you can see it's a LOT more work, plus if it was ONLY in your group, and the devs make a server JUST FOR GROUP VOICE CHAT. This server would have to be Instanced, like the corvette, except not a dungeon but voice chat... instanced voice chat is the way to go.

I mean, you have hundreds of Instanced Corvettes going on, and yet we don't get extra lag. This is what I purpose make it on a seperate Instanced server, andvoice chatto people ONLY in your group.

And if there are 56k people, i second that for a option to have it turned off so it won't be any inconvince to u .

EDIT: oh and i also suggest it being ONLY in space also.

Sure would be sweet to hail an unidentified ship and question their business in my patrol sector.

This would be cool.

A number of implementations could be used to reduce bandwidth.

Not include a server wide chat room and limit it to specific PvP comms (ie targeted) and to those within range (esp on the ground).

Merge the various data streams (if the number is above a predefined amount then lower the volume allowing places like markets to be reduced to a dull inconsistant background noise) but allow a group target to increase the volume of those targeted so that u can focus on one or a couple of people.

tbh with medium band on the increase across the world there is no reason beyond the server bandwidth why this should not be included infact voice is standard on Xbox Live so why not for an immersive enviroment game such as this. Even if the actual voice data was sent P2P the controls could still go via the chat servers allowing jamming and slicing to be almost cheat proof.

For those advocating a 3rd party system this is fine if you are looking to talk to the same people but what I'd like to see is immersion which text based chat is not. There are so many possiblities with voice your pc could play a low volume chewy track underneath your comms chatter.

A: Ok guys we're going to pull down all the servers in the early hours of the morning so our customers aren't inconvinienced.
B: Great idea how about 4am ?
A: Amazing who in their right mind would be up at that time ?
4am comes
B: Bring them down

What you guys are talking about is all over the place.

The ability to hail 1 ship and have voice to voice with that 1 ship is not feasible to the best of my knowledge. Right now voice chat has specific channels that you can join. Each channel requires a specific IP address. Anyone subcribed to that address gets all the packets generated by that channel. If you wanted to hail a ship and have a channel just with the two of you in it. Not feasible.

Again, SOE could do a lot of this, but there is no reason for them to do so.

1. Players who want it can get it on their own at no cost to the player or to SOE.

2. Any chat provided by SOE would not be secure or controllable by people, it would be public channels. You just know some jerk would stick a microphone and play music over the channel.

3. Large scale chat channels don't work. They have to be private and you have to have a decent idea of who is in the channel to have coherent conversations that work.

1. True. But then again, you would not be able to communicate with everyone, just a small minority of players who happen to have it on and connected right then and there.

2. You can put individuals on ignore/mute and never hear them again. Works great when they try to play music over chat.

3. You can have subdivisions of channels. General Naboo 1, General Naboo 2 etc. You can view who is in the channel. You can do that now with the text channels.

There is nothing as destructive as voice chat for immersion. Hearing a female twilek talking like a male with a deep voice isn't pleasant at all!

What I do hope to get here is a set a default voice macros that would come along the regular chat channel.

So by hitting a key, we would broadcast a voice message like: "starfighter in my 6" with a voice we would have selected beforehand.

There, all we need are a few male and female voices for each species and a set of recordings for a large enough panel of messages to use.

Er, maybe she smokes death sticks?

I think we should have both voice chat and regular computer voices. I'm not sure how I would be able to tell my wingmates to attack a Star Destroyer, whether concentrating on the turrets or shield generators, or going after the starfighters around acertain ship other than saying "Take out the starfightersin general."

Yes, this is true, hard to be specific, with voice chat in-game you can be very specific, and for those that don'twant (or can't because theyhave 56k)to usevoice chat can turn it off, and use the "hot keyed" computerized commands, if they do put them in. But believe me when beta come out and they don't have either........ i'm guessing we are going to see a lot more thread open up about voice chat and wing commands, i'd prefer voice chat.

Now, your agruement withvoice chatruining immersion, yes iagreeit would be wierd..... but considerthatu areable to use voice chat, andu were out numbered, with about 5 ties (or x-wings) on your tail, and almost out of shields.... Would u really wanna type out, "help i'm going to die, 5 ties (or x-wings) are on my tail... hurry!" Now by that time you would either be dead and couldn't finish the whole message....or..... your wingman friend would reply asking, "Where are u?"....... then you would have to type out, "i'm by the huge asteroid near the imperial (or rebel) base, come quick!" then your friend has to find you, and before he can.... your dead, and have damages all across your vessel.....voice chat can and WILL save your life more than once in space, i guarantee it!.

Thats exactly why we need the voice chat! We can't possibly type anything out in the middle of a battle!

I am on 56k and used TS. All you need to do is set a lower codec (Like a Speex 7.2) and it works fine. And it still sounds good too.

SOE did it with Planetside, though I've never used it, so I could not say how good it is. But I wouldn't rule out the possibility.

It is bad, really really bad. Setting it up is a huge pain in the ass, some people are unable to connect for no apparent reason, quality is terrible, and it usesthe bandwidth of whoever creates the channel so a typical home broadband user with 128 up can only support a few people before it starts using so much bandwidth that the game becomes unplayable.

Everyone uses Teamspeak/Ventrilo or no voice chat at all because the in-game system is total crap.

Regarding inability to type in combat: hopefullythey will have Tribes/Planetside style voicebinds where you can transmit a variety of cannedmessages with 3 or 4 keypresses, e.g. V-A-T (Voice, Attack, Turrets) wouldplay a sound that saysATTACK THEIR TURRETS and also put it in your chat box. Planetside has a ton of them and they're broken down into fairly intuitive categories, so it's not hard to remember where stuff is.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if they left it as text only or made everyone sound like humans. Canned voice messages aren't be very usefulwhen the audio is unintelligible alien garble.
