Thread: Voice Chat System with safeguards and cool uses (Jamming etc.)Optional for nonbroadband users

I have posted about real voice chat, it would be more accessible than teamspeak... because on teamspeak you have to make a server, make rooms, tell people about your room that is going to be in your group... and then have 56k people download teamspeak just to be in your group... as you can see it's a LOT more work, plus if it was ONLY in your group, and the devs make a server JUST FOR GROUP VOICE CHAT. This server would have to be Instanced, like the corvette, except not a dungeon but voice chat... instanced voice chat is the way to go.
I mean, you have hundreds of Instanced Corvettes going on, and yet we don't get extra lag. This is what I purpose make it on a seperate Instanced server, andvoice chatto people ONLY in your group.

Sure would be sweet to hail an unidentified ship and question their business in my patrol sector.

What you guys are talking about is all over the place.
The ability to hail 1 ship and have voice to voice with that 1 ship is not feasible to the best of my knowledge. Right now voice chat has specific channels that you can join. Each channel requires a specific IP address. Anyone subcribed to that address gets all the packets generated by that channel. If you wanted to hail a ship and have a channel just with the two of you in it. Not feasible.
Again, SOE could do a lot of this, but there is no reason for them to do so.
1. Players who want it can get it on their own at no cost to the player or to SOE.
2. Any chat provided by SOE would not be secure or controllable by people, it would be public channels. You just know some jerk would stick a microphone and play music over the channel.
3. Large scale chat channels don't work. They have to be private and you have to have a decent idea of who is in the channel to have coherent conversations that work.

There is nothing as destructive as voice chat for immersion. Hearing a female twilek talking like a male with a deep voice isn't pleasant at all!
What I do hope to get here is a set a default voice macros that would come along the regular chat channel.
So by hitting a key, we would broadcast a voice message like: "starfighter in my 6" with a voice we would have selected beforehand.
There, all we need are a few male and female voices for each species and a set of recordings for a large enough panel of messages to use.
Er, maybe she smokes death sticks? ![]()
I think we should have both voice chat and regular computer voices. I'm not sure how I would be able to tell my wingmates to attack a Star Destroyer, whether concentrating on the turrets or shield generators, or going after the starfighters around acertain ship other than saying "Take out the starfightersin general."

Yes, this is true, hard to be specific, with voice chat in-game you can be very specific, and for those that don'twant (or can't because theyhave 56k)to usevoice chat can turn it off, and use the "hot keyed" computerized commands, if they do put them in. But believe me when beta come out and they don't have either........ i'm guessing we are going to see a lot more thread open up about voice chat and wing commands, i'd prefer voice chat.
Now, your agruement withvoice chatruining immersion, yes iagreeit would be wierd..... but considerthatu areable to use voice chat, andu were out numbered, with about 5 ties (or x-wings) on your tail, and almost out of shields.... Would u really wanna type out, "help i'm going to die, 5 ties (or x-wings) are on my tail... hurry!" Now by that time you would either be dead and couldn't finish the whole message....or..... your wingman friend would reply asking, "Where are u?"....... then you would have to type out, "i'm by the huge asteroid near the imperial (or rebel) base, come quick!" then your friend has to find you, and before he can.... your dead, and have damages all across your vessel.....voice chat can and WILL save your life more than once in space, i guarantee it!.

SOE did it with Planetside, though I've never used it, so I could not say how good it is. But I wouldn't rule out the possibility.
