Thread: Capital Ships?

I like the idea of capitol ships being in game alot but as a Shipwright i would never want to see them craftable, one a capitol ship could probably take a couple of million resources to build, like enough to grind out shipwright. Shipwright could probably charge 1 billion for them and get away with it. So by no means should it be craftable. Maybe purchasable by faction points from a recruiter or a factional pilot recruiter or something.

How would it get billions out of the system, it would only take the collective credits of one guild and transfer them to a single person or crafting guild. Not out of the system just making a different person rich. Keep these overpowered Behemoths out of the game. This all started with having your own personal Pet AT-ST following you around. Dont make capital ships the AT-ST of the new and great space expansion.

Do you mean forming FactionalShipWright Guilds? This would help bring people into the GCW, for if no other reason, to build the capital ships.

On the other hand there are so many medium class ships that are over looked and could be pieced together as a crafting mission for a smaller group of ShipWrights, For instance one is the GR-45 (better known as a Rebel transport) these ships were a common sight on all sides of the conflict due to their cheap costs. Then there is the Corellian space cruiser that is seen in Episode I (this ship is the one that brought the Jedi to meet with the Trade Federation), as well as the Advance Armed Star Courier seen in the same movie (Darth Maul flew a modified one in the film) H-type Nubian yachts, this ship can be seen in Episode IIas a highly modified version that Padme flys from Naboo to Tatooine. Oh lets not forget the YT-2400 from "Shadows of the Empire" then seen in the second version of Episode IV (this is a medium class ship)

Yeah I was thinkign more along the lines of Factional SW guilds, but I do see the points from the above post. The shear manpower to operate a Corillean Cruiser or Prigate woudl be large, and most people would not go for it.

It would be fun to see and experience thought lol.

This has already been answered by a dev. Be right back with the dialogue...

Okay, from the stratics chat with the devs:

Brekkee: *Paxicon[CF]* Any chance we'll ever see players operating star destroyers and the like?

ronda_lucasarts: Star Destroyers are super Star Warsy and iconic and lots of people have asked us about this.

ronda_lucasarts: It'd definitely be a very cool thing to play. Getting multiplayer ships in with Jump to Lightspeed was huge actually...

ronda_lucasarts: 20 people on one ship like the Lady Luck was an amazing feat.

ronda_lucasarts: Player controlled Star Destroyers are an even bigger technilogical challenge.

ronda_lucasarts: The tech isn't quite there yet for so many people operating one ship in unison...

ronda_lucasarts: super cool though!

A factional ShipWright Guild should have perks, but I think it would be a coding problem for the larger Capital Ships to be playable ships in the game. thats the reason I gave a small list of medium class ships that could be use, the coding wouldn't be much more difficult then the Veteran Yacht reward.

What exactly is your argument against a ship that would cost 1 billion credits to make? Just hypo-thetical? So it would take alot, might even bankrupt a guild. Its not like the shipwrights wouldn't be stealing money, they would still need resources to do it. It would be quite interesting to see "Crafting corporations" that pump out huge ships.

And as for the argument that Capital ships take long periodsto make.... Explain to me how one would pump out an advanced B-wing in 126 seconds

Very true, Even "if" you wanted to scale it up by size and volume. Say a B-wing takes 170k resources. How much do you think it weighs? Maybe 60 tons ok if 60 tons took you 126 seconds to make ok. Now how much do you think a ISD weighs in at? maybe 60 million tons or more. Crap the engines probably weigh more then a squadron of Bwings. Even at that rate your crafting tool will have to stay counting for a week straight, maybe longer. If you want a capital ship fine, just dont be one of the weenies whining because you were tooling around in it and got snuffed by a couple of people. I can hear it now, "I want AI controlled turrets on my ISD because i want to fly it solo" or "Cant you please Link my Turbo lasers firing forward for me, i wana solo the corvette in my Capital ship" cmon this game does not need PC controlled capital Ships.

Would be nice, but image the outcry when some pc squadron took out the ship it took you and your guild 6 months, of resorces, time, and money to make or save up for. Next people would want them to be non-destroy-able, and no componet decay.

Exactly giving people capital ships is just catering to the munchkin crowd.

It would be a cool idea and a good one as long as it was pre manned with npc's. Make another profession out of it, like an imperial ace would go on to be a novice imperial commander. As you go up in the ranks your ships and the npc's on it get better. 1 line could be droid repairthe ship, anouther sould be special tactice and weapons use upgrades, third could be components and equiptement, and the last line could be the crew, how good they are with weapons or piolating, or around the ship doing misc. things

nothing as big as an ISD though, perhaps the devs could get "creative" again and think up ships that are bigger than the MP ships and have more turrets. Such as 4-6 turrets, and maybe even hold a fighter or two. Perhaps be the size of a guild hall, and just as maneuverable.

They would be cool.. They would ALWAYS be Overt.

FOr example the vette would need 8 gunners Thats not a big deal. They could even cut that number in 12 be linking 2 guns to each player station.

The Star Destroyer has 100 guns on it in Deep Space. Link them in sets of 10 controled from a single fire position. Plus just the entire thing of having to move around inside them to fix things would be cool. (bet they hold more then 75 items to )

But for the Factional Capital ships they should also be a combo of Millions of Resources and Credits. PLus they should require the spending of hundreds of Thousands of Factional pionts for the schemitics from the Rebel or Imperial NPCs. 1 Ship per schem.

That would make it interesting....
