We tried this again last night, and again failed. My grouped friend is a 3333 Corsec and I'm 2232. We both have about the best equipment possible for our level. I spent a lot last night, upgrading my shields, armor and weapons to the best I could find.
We lasted a lot longer this time, but I'm not sure if it's because of the enhancements to our ships or what. My friend went in first and they all took the bait. I caught up and aimed for the YT-1300's weapon 0. I took it down to 29%, then died. After I started attacking it, it came after me, along with what seemed to be everything else.
The pirate ships were different than most nights. Tonight was much more difficult, with plenty of lvl 5 ships including the lvl 5 YT-1300. Not sure why this changed really, unless it works like mission do: equipa cdef or something you're not certfied to use and get lower level missions than if you equip a good certified weapon.
I think tonight, I may try the approach of sitting back about 550m and taking pot-shots to see what can happen. Otherwise, I think it will take several people more with me to make this work.

*sigh* After reading all of this I am beginning to think about dumping RSF and going Corsec.
I'm RSF2322, and currently I have yet to get passed the wave after the first YT-1300, solo.
After reading what lies beyond in that there is another Tier 4YT & Tier 5's waiting father along in the missionout there, I am begingin to think they placed this mission in the wrong tier.
I hate having wasted all this time to find out I am against a wall.
Tier missions should be dificult to solo, but not impossible.

Ok, I made it past the survival wave.
Then
Corellia, the Hyperspace jump into hell.
OK, whom ever is laying out the missions must have been flying an uber ship from hell, when He/She tested them.
I'm good, maybe even great on occasion. I think the end of the mission should be when the Cadamo Sun takes it's own hyperspace jump.
There is no 70k mass ship, given the current mass rules on equipped equipment, that can solothe horde that awaits them in Corellia, 3/4 of my ship is looted, I barely crammed in 2 really good player crafted weapons with a few hundred grams of mass.
I would have loved to have counted all the tier 5/4 ships in that ugly little furball. But I was too busy being wasted by the tier 5 YT-1300.
I love my tough as nails lttle ship. Too bad I am not in love with the RSF anymore.
I think I'll watch and see what happens over the next few weeks. Or play another server a few days. *Sigh* Much as I love a challenge, this mission is designed for a group of 10-20.

Okay, it is finished!!!!
We FINALLY made it through last night after two tries. This time, I had plenty of friends. All together, we had:3 Heavy Hutt Fighters, 2 X-wings and1A-wing. Six total ships.
After the hyperspace jump to Corellia's Own, I stayed back and actually went the other direction a little bit so I would survive. Unfortunately, a couple of the guys couldn't tell our "backups" that were supposed to be protected, from the pirates, so they attacked and destroyed the wrong ships, thus the mission was over.
The second time was perfect. Everyone attacked the tier 5 YT-1300's guns, and after it was destroyed, they went after the rest of the level 4's and 5's. It took some time, and a couple guys had to bail temporarily since they got chewed up pretty bad by the 1300. Victory was ours though!
The initial escorting of the Cadamo Sun took about 30 minutes or so. It's very slow-paced and the attacks are relatively light until the Sun jumps into hyperspace and about 6 level 3 and 4 ships attack.
After the big battle in Corellia's Own, we had to escort another YT-1300 for about 20 more minutes, fending off more waves of tier 3 and 4 ships. That part wasn't too bad.
This mission is awful, but can be done if you have friends and about an hour and a half for the whole thing.

This mission is ridiculous. I have no clue how some of you solo it. I've tried it thrice for myself and thrice for a couple of friends. Each time we had a total of 4 people and we got totally reamed (even after the Tier 5 fighter was removed)
I've never seen them stay in that little tightly packed ball that they pop in, they always immediately break and seem to focus on whomever took the mission. Once, we tried to have theguy who took the mission hyperspace out to a different waypoint in Corellia and they turned on us. Each of us got killed 3 times IN A ROW as they followed us to where we re-spawned at the correlian space station and killed us over and over until the mission taker came back to help us. At that point they turned and killed him. Before this mission, I was loving JTL, but afterwards it's made me hate JTL, hate the developers (even more), and I'm not too happy with myself for wasting my time with it. My friends and I have been waiting around for the idiots in charge of these missions to wise up and fix it but no more fixes seem forthcoming so we're probably just all going to dump the game and go to Worlds of Warcraft for a while.

I'm confused. Are you saying that you are thinking about leaving the game because you had trouble with one mission? Or are you saying that you are thinking about leaving the game because you don't like it? Just trying to get some clarification on what made you so upset.

I'm saying that we're all (The group of 4 that attempted this mission enough times to get utterly sick of it) frustrated from being stuck on this mission for over 2 weeks now. Since there's very little left for us to do on the ground (or very little we're interested in doing since we've found the ground game screwed for quite some time) and, with this roadblock in place, nothing really to do in space but restrict ourselves to mid-level areas and grind for cash or loot, we feel that it's time we leave the game behind for a while and play something that sounds like it will be a lot more fun than the constant frustration of SWG.
It was always one thing or another. Either one of our professions was getting screwed (we felt), or one of our missions/quests was getting screwed (we felt), or the devs had made something needlessly difficult or time consuming.
If 4 guys of decent skill and top of the line equipment can't get pasta single mission that is only midway through their skill tree, then it is needlessly difficult and time consuming (considering the speed that the Cadamo Sun travels and the distance you have to follow it.) Now while we consider ourselves fairly good pilots with plenty of twitch space fighter games under our belts, we're obviously not as dedicated as some of you other folks, but we really don't feel that that should be necessary. We don't mind that we're forced to group, but four people should be plenty; we shouldn't be forced to have 8 people. That's the main reason we left Final Fantasy XI. The game was gorgeous, the first few levels were fun, but after a short while you not only had to find a full group, everyone had to be within 2 or 3 levels of each other. It made it so you sat around for hours trying to get a full group sometimes because you'd finally get your group together, but you'd all been waiting so long some of your group had to leave to get on with their lives.

Never mind, I just soloed it!! I had been tweaking my ship, and engine overload3 is what saved me! I started the 2nd mission, and thought I was a goner as usual. 5 seconds after engaging, my shields where out, so I turned and ran. In the time it took for them to recharge, (I was about 8k from the mission waypoint) when I noticed the YT-1300, which I swear was following at the same speed as the other pirates, had respawed at the starting location! Once the YT was separated from the group, I easily wasted the other 6 pirates, then turned back for the YT, which was also no problem without its escort.

You may have just strayed too far from her, amidst all the fighting. The cadamo will hype if you let her get to far away from you.

The problem I keep getting is in the Naboo system. I've successly escorted the Cadamo to success once.. didn't know where I was supposed to go after that I actually did know from reading the forums, but it didn't dawn on me till later when I aborted). That one time was the only time the YT-1300 Viggo didn't show up in the Naboo system. 4 times it has shown up, twice it handed my ass to me. Twice I handed his to him by stopping just with in blaster range and targeting his weapons. Each time he showed up with only 2 escorts. They're punks and easy, but I take him out first. After that, all hell breaks loose.. another wave of 4.. no problem..before I can finish the last 2, another wave of 5 comes in. I can't get anywhere near taking them all out before the Cadamo decides the area is too hot and bails on me... mission failure. Anybody else get that?

Finally got the mission done with a 4444 pilot and a 3333 pilot on my wing and still got hammered pretty badly. After that I breezed through the other tier 3 missions with the 3333 pilot on my wing and managed to get 4333 myself. I'd say that it was too easy, but the second tier 3 mission was so freaking hard that it totally made up for it. Later on, I helped another friend do the Cadamo Sun mission and, with the 4444 pilot again, the 3333 pilot and the 3222 pilot I was helping, I still almost completely lost my shields. I didn't really think I was a poor pilot, but perhaps I am.
The first tier 4 mission is kind of difficult as well, made more difficult by the fact that it is in an area populated with tier 4 ship spawns. About halfway (I hope) through the mission, the Tier 4 mission enemies spawned in near a group of Tier 4 random enemies and the random enemies began to eat me up while my wingman tried like hell to keep the tier 4 Y-Wings from killing the Lamda shuttle we were escorting. When I lost my shields and my back armor I went ahead and began my hyperspace calculations. I made it into hyperspace just as I lost my front armor as well and my systems were being destroyed. While it would be great if the idi- people in charge of this would give you a clear path on escort missions, but I can understand why they might not.
I think I speak for nearly everyone when I ask sincerely, please devs,
No Umbrella Missions

I'm in the exact same boat Ghostlion, and feel the same way about it.
It's very disappointing when an RPG has such an incredibly linear character development path that a single mission can stop all progression.
