I agree with this 100% I didn't even unwrap my CD I just typed in the KEY. The whole darn thing comes down through the Launchpad in like 30 minutes anyway.
I started a post like this in Beta hoping that they would make something like this an option but someone said, "Well what if you have to re-install and you lost the CD and don't have the key?". But the Key is associated with your account so once you log in you should still have JTL enabled.
I don't get this.
- You already have my credit card number
- I already have the code
What's the deal?

I really don't see what the big fuss is. If I had to wait a week it really isn't a big deal. (wanna trade my copy for yours?) But humans have a way of blowing up over the dumbest issues and ignoring the most serious.

if i order it via a 'distributor' in u.s. ill have to wait maybe a month to get it. even then it is not certain.
the trouble for a damned box just to make some distributors earn some undeserved money.

yeah lebob problem is not the download, it is the key.
i have jtl sitting pretty in my hd as i was in beta, however i have to wait to get the damned key printed over a godforsaken box.
only a string of numbers and letters that is. and only to make some distributors get some money while getting in me trouble for it.

Um, Puck,
While I admire the attempt to defend SOE, I think your time line is a bit off.
Most retail outlets keep the products in the back room until the rollout date. Sometimes these products are received as early as 2-3 weeks prior to rollout. The retailers just can't display the product until the given date.
As far as customs is concerned. Most items clear customs and are out of the shipper's building within hours of the ship or aircraft's arrival. At longest, it may take a couple days if the customs inspectors believe for some reason that a shipment's documentation may be inaccurate, and ask the shipper to send a rep., or a broker, to clear it.
Given the amount of time before rollout that the order would have shipped, I believe you've presented an inaccurate defence. I believe we should instead accept the reasoning that UK distributors chose to delay the rollout, They should bear the heat. Not SOE, or Customs.
(In case you wish to know my credentials, I work for a company that transports items DAILY between the US and the UK).

daaaaamn.
one of the biggest companies, ie lucasart, teams with one of the biggest in internet gaming industry, all crapola is done over the internet, however when you go to lucas site to purchase the game it says 'us adresses only'.
which century do these guys who decided such 'policy' live in ? renaissance ? which renaissance ?
the only thing people cant do via the net is wc duty nowadays. the company's responsibles of such retarded polices should be fired.

it is a total irony.
all was perfect about beta, game was very good, it was like something totally right about a game soe did for the first time.
this time not the devs but damn marketing department screws it up.
lawyers and marketing people are always a thorn in commerce.

I bought City of Heroes online and downloaded the whole game from a secure site of NC-Soft's..
See SOE it's not that frickin difficult, but then again City of Heroes and NC-Soft p1ss all over everything else you do so it's not really a surprise.

Valve/Vivendi Universal are currently all ready for World Wide relase of Half Life 2 - you have 2 options, buy it in stores or download off the Net.
Ive got Half Life 2 already downloaded via Valves steam Network....this thing is 3Gb of data, and one of the most highly anticipated games for years....its locked so I cant play it, but for the last 3 months, Valve have been slowly releasing locked downloads, so after about 5-6 of em you have the full version
Also being in Europe doesnt seem to matter....Ive ordered the 'Gold Version' off Steamwith all the extras (including Game Guide, and some promotional stuff), and <Gasp> (are you Listening SOE?) -you DONT HAVE TO BE A US CITIZEN to get it!!! WOW what a concept huh? I just pay a bit extra for shipping the stuff over the pond....no biggie.
The retail distrubition of Half Life 2has is currently looking like its actually being handled very well....with a 'Global Release' (ie Global as whole of world - not SOEs definition which is the US onlyand the rest of the world when they can be bothered) for the 16th November. The Downloadable version and the retail version all being released everywhere at the same time (if its downloaded on your PC and if you've paid - its automatically unlocked at the moment of release). No waiting for the Mail man or having to drive down to the store to find they've sold out or it hasnt arrived yet.
If Valve can manage to do it with a hugh 3Gb game, one of the most highly anticipated ever, why cant SOE/Lucasarts manage it with a Pissant 300mb expansion that - lets be fair -95% of the gaming public (apart from SWG players of course)couldnt give 2 farts about?
Im not saying jtL is bad or anything - personally I think its breathes new life into SWG and is real fun, but, lets be honest - next to HL2 (in the non SWG players gamers eye anyway) its fairly insignificant.
Maybe SOE& Lucasarts should look at Valve and Vivendi Universal (the Retail Distributors) on how to PROPERLY release a game world wide.
Weird thing is - Valve and Vivendi Universal are, at this moment, currently fighting each other in Court - but they still manage to work together properly and stage a proper global release. Personally I think SOEs attempt at Global release is pathetic (especially in a game where the people getting it first are getting a large advantage over others who get it later)
Just my 2 cents.

One REALLY annoyed UK customer. The release of this expansion was far to rushed and we paid for it. The release of this game is delayed in Europe and probably almost everywhere because of greed. The powers that be are losing money because of problems and need to get people back. There was no reason that the release date for the expansion could not have been worldwide apart from the fact that it would take time to get the distributorsready. And the reason we cannot get it sooner is because companies will lose money if we could download it! No money for the company who make the cd's. No money for the company who make the boxes. etc. etc. etc.
Now I am normally a very placid person but why should we wait over a week more when in theory we could play this game within
30 minutes of the server comming up today.
Now I really love playing this game but this has REALLY ANNOYED me.
Yrab (on his soapbox)
p.s. and we had practically no chance of getting the Flash Speeder. But I will not go on as I could probably be here until I actually manage to get JTL.
p.p.s. I work in the Import/Export business and know exactly what is involved in distribution.
LONG LIVE THOSE WHO STRIVE AGAINST OPPRESSION
