You can only launch one multiplayer ship at a time though and you can only have "stuff" in one multiplayer ship at a time. So If you are flying around in your YT-1300 and want to land and Head out on the Yacht, you will have to empty the first vehicle of all it's items. Otherwise players would load up both ships and it would lead to a lot of dead database space.
I can definately see the restriction on decorating multiple ships, but why aren't we allowed to fly undecorated ships? I don't see the sense in restricting use to one ship. Would it be possible to allow us to fly any ship, simply receiving an error message if we tried to drop an item in a second ship? That would protect the database just fine.

I don't know about anyone else but when TH says it's a technical issue I interpret him tomean it in a waythat excludes database issues. It's technically impossible to code correctly the way the game/engine is designed. Usually when it's a database issue he's been willing to at least work with us on it. His tone and wording here seem to indicate something different.
Just to start off this is completely hypothetical (brave folks read on
). But say it's something like this...
Existing in space in the context of a multiplayer ship has to be a lot different that a one man craft. The game has to create a virtual "space" basically taken from the ground game and dropped into the working of what's essentially a space sim. In many other ways the two areas of the game don't really have to interact at all. Thismultiplayer ship space, however, musttie themtogether completely. You have to beable to not only walk around and viewwhat's goingon around you in space but jump into a pilots chair or a turret in moments, in essence switching gameplay systems entirely. Sounds like a[female dog who's had pups:EDITED heh]of a coding job (this type of thing ever been done before? -- and I'm really asking).
So in a way each of these multiplayer spaceswould beinstanced since they don't exist unless you take your ship out. But they're not instanced in the traditional sense because they're not isolated pockets on the server. In this situation they're tied completely into the "universe" as you can see and be seen by anyone flying past you.
So maybe the only way they get it to work right is by tying each char to a multiplayer space that's independent of a ship. Instead of the space you experience when you launch being "in" one ship or another, it's just there regardless, tied to the character as a whole.
So when you're putting things into one ship they're going into your generic space and somehow activating that ship. When you try to launch another multiplayer ship, it'd have to load that interior into the same space (even if it's an empty interior)... it sees that space is full and so actually can't load the second ship because it's blocked. Maybe it's really there in a way when you're flying a single player craft too but since that craft has no interior at all to load there's no conflict.
Again this is just some late night musings here and I'm certainly not even a programmer so you could certainly discount my thoughts outright. All I can say is when TH said it was a technical limitation this scenario, or something like it hit me as being possible. In the time he's been a community manager for SWG I've never seen him fully shut down any database issue outright.
Now personally, I'd hate to see the yacht cusomizable because the last thing I want is dozens of luxury yachts cruising around engaging in space battles. Talk about loss of immersion. heh

The vet ship is totally awesome looking, and will provide great views, but being invulnerable, non-upgradeable, and having to unfurnish it each time you take a different multi-person ship in space really kills its usefulness...

Question, what are you using to calculate 'account age' the age of the SWG account or the age of the station account? Not that it matters much but one of my station accounts has been in SWG since beta while the other is only a recent addition to SWG, but it has been around from EQ for a couple of years.

Thunderheart, on this issue of Items being in multiplayer ships, Could you make it so we can divide the max item of one ship between two ships. So if the max is say 150 (just throwing out a number) we could have 75 items on one ship and 75 items on another. Or 100 items on one ship and 50 on the other. Just as long as it doesn't go over the Max items. I would think this would be to hard to code. I would think that if there was a set item limit in the database for ships in general that it wouldn't really matter what ship it was on as long as you didn't go over the max limit.
My second though, is to make it so if you have say 2 multiplayer ships in your datapad that the Items are split in half. So you can only have 75 items on one ship and 75 on the other.
I personally Like the first way because you might want to put more furniture in the Yacht but not so much in say the YT-1300.
Just a thought.
Thanks,

I remember way back in the day, oh about 15 months ago, I was excited for the day when I had enough experience to survive on Lok, then came dathomir (and the baznitch fiasco, for those that recall), then Yavin IV, Endor; all planets I was looking forward to having the experince and expertise to explore. It took quite awhile till I was able to survive solo on all the planets and it was part of the lure of the game. A reason to keep playing.
Now, why am I bringing that up on this thread you ask? Well, it is pretty obvious that had I had some kind of magic suit of invulnerablity then the secrets of all the planets that took me months to explore would have just been as simple as a walk in the park, no agro, no combat, just walk about and check out all the mobs up close and personal with no fear or attack. Granted it would have taken forever on foot... but that aside.
With the release of JTL I was looking forward to a similar experience, one where I dare not go into the outer rim alone lest I get blasted to dust in short order. Where mastering the pilot skills not only meant I was a better pilot but also able to explore further and further into the space around the harder planets and eventually into the outer reaches. But wait! No need for me to wait... I can do it all as a noob pilot from the comfy cushions of my Luxury Yacht.
It's the next best thing to God Mode in space.
Granted, I can choose not to, but thats not the point.

I am not sure if this has been asked and answered.
Is the award only available to those that are veterans right now?
Or will it be gifted to those that are part of JTL and achieve veteran status at a later date?

OKTH I STILL DONT KNOW IF THE SHIP HAS HYPERDRIVE.
ALSO CAN WE PICK AN OPTION OF ALREADY FURNISHED WITH STORAGE WE CAN PULL
WITH AN UNLOAD COMAND?
PS CAN THE DEVS ADD DATA STORGE TO OUR BANK FOR THINGS LIKE SHIPS?
IT SEAMS LIKE A WAST TO HAVE TO DESTROY A SHIP BECAUSE WE BOUGHT A NEW ONE.
THANKYOU FOR YOUR TIME SIR.
