Play the game for a year before you even think about jedi.. If you are still here after a yearthen go for it.

Get your Elite profession as forementioned (there's plenty of combos of profs out there to chose from), then read the non-Glowy to Padawan sticky at the top of the FS forums, then read it again and again.
I cannot tell you how many times I've read it. It will give you all the details of how to become a Jedi (minimum of 15 weeks). Good luck!

Ok so there's actually enough skill points to take and cap four (elite) professions? And it doesn't really matter what skills you learn because you convert the xp when you become a Jedi? Interesting...
There are not enough skill points to cap 4 elite professions. I believe 2 elite pro's are the max you can attain with 250 SP.

You can relly only master 2 elites. The only way I know of to master three is tkm, swords, and fencer. The prof really dosent matter to get jedi, it is going to take forever no matter what. So play around and find a prof you like because you are going to be killing things that way for a LONG time. I would suggest a full template ( 2 elites mastered) before you start down the path for jedi, you are going to need them.

Sorry guys if these have already been answered. It's 7AM, I've been up playing all night, and I really don't have the energy to search through the forums anymorefor the answers. Please bare with me, I'm a noob to shipwright and because I usually do weapon or archatect, and I'm also new to JTL having just got it last weekend.
First of all, I hear a ton of talk about grinding. Now, I know it's the cheeter's way and I'm not really about that but I figured I'm not gonna get anywhere unless I join the crew. I also have seen on the forum that grinding ships is the way to go if you want it to happen fast. Well I don't. I would rather get my resources worth, because it costs a hell of alot (in resources) for those ships that nobody seems to buy. Anyway, my first question is; Is there a better item to grind that uses less resources, may take a bit more time (say a few hours), but gets the job done with very little hastle? I can write macros to help me out, so making something many times over is no biggie.
Secondly, it would appear from my limited vantage point that SW is becomming a lost art. I rarely see items on the galactic vendors, and I'm not sure if that's because they're being purchased too quick or what. Is becomming a SW really worth the effort, or should I stick with my guns?
Third, I hear everyone talking about asteroid mining. I have a few questions on that. First how do you go about asteroid mining (as I have but a simple dunelizzard)? Second, is it really worth doing or does it take forever to collect the minerals, like surface surveying? Third, do you gain any kind of XP for mining asteroids, and if so what do you gain?
Last but not least, sorry for all the questions guys but like I said I'm a noob to shipwright. Is there any specific materials I should be collecting as a shipwright? I know I need steel, ore, etc. etc.... But I mean specifics. Should I be collecting a specific type of steel, or ore, or aluminum? I know there are many types, and they seem to affect the bars (green/yellow/red)in the creation process, but I havn't quite figured out what affects the bars and what kind of specific materials would be best to have on hand. Would hate to gather aluminum for 3 days just to find out that it gives me barely a red bar when I go to create a ship. Know what I mean? So I'm looking for specifics, if there are any. And if not, please describe how I would figure out (without collecting every type of material known to exist) what materials would be best in my schematics.
Thanks in advanceforany help....

1) Without hassle means for most people "as fast as possible", so grinding ships is the way to go; you can still sell them later when you are MSW. I think the resource-exp ratio is the same for all items, so it just increases the time, but doesn't lower the resources if you switch to something else.
BTW, it's double exp week, so take your chances.
2) I have started sales 12 days ago on Eclipse, and during the last 24 hours I made more than 2 mio cr (25 L7 items of all categories for 64,000 each alone). Dead art ? I don't think so. Oh, and I haven't advertized in forums or spammed starports; it's all mouth-to-mouth and vendor search. And quality.
Ask some pilots if they have a favored vendor, it should give you a picture of the SW situation on your server.
3) No exp. You get a starter mining equipment by doing a series of quests, resulting in the Y8 multiplayer mining ship. Check the FAQs here or in pilot forum to find out how to get started.
About speed: if you are using a fighter for mining, your cargo fills pretty quickly (=1000 units I think), about every 15 minutes, which means you have to land and empty it. A ship with 3 guns is recommended (1 mining laser + 1 tractor beam + 1 weapon in case pirates show up), but a dunelizard is ok, too (no tractor beam then).
Get your business running, and pay others to mine for you.
4) There are no name-specific resources needed, i.e. no _duralloy_ steel (any steel is good) or _kammris_ iron (get any iron). A minor exception are sub-components, where the new JtL resources are required (perovskitic alu, crystallized bicorbantium steel, fermionic siliclastic ore,...).
This one should help: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~lamm0039/cgi-bin/swg/sw_post_cu.cgi
What affects the bars is how good your stuff is compared to what is required. Overall Quality (OQ) is almost always a must, as is UT, COND and PE (if the resource has it).
The easy way for me: check the sticky FAQs on top of this forum to get an overview. There is just no general rule, and I have spent days making personal spreadsheets before even considering buying resources.
Before harvesting a new resources, sample a few units and pretend crafting an item with it. Even though you don't have enough to make one, the bar indicator is visible, giving you a hint if the resource is worth being mined or not.
And get steel. Lots of it. I think there is only 1 schematic that doesn't need steel.
P.S.: Have I pointed you to the FAQs yet ?

You probably should think about crafting chassis anyways. I know it seems like a waste, but keep in mind that chassis experimentation doesn't add too much to the final product vs.engine or weapon experimentation, and as a novice shipwright (or low level) you just don't have the experimentation points to make it worth it.

Selling parts are not the only advantages to mastering shipwright, as you can also do wonders for you own ships. I personally only deal with my own or my guilds ships, and at times it's all I can do to keep up with that.
My answers in green.

1) How do I unload my cargo hold? Or is it impossible, and I have to sell all my stuff for 1cpu at a NPC Space Station?
2) Do I decay in space? Both PvP, PvE or both.
I heared that PvP doesn't decay your components, but does it lower you Chassis?
3) Does the Ace XP multiplier work for all squadrons. Say that I got Havoc Ace (Rebel) then switched to CorSec (Privateer). Will I get bonus XP? (Yes, I know that Double XP has canceled out Ace XP for the time being).
4) As a Privateer in space and Rebel on ground, can I still go Rebel Overt in Space and get FP when killing Imperial Alligned craft?
5) What is your personal preference on Droid Commands?
