"In either case, it's not so much what we see in those pictures, it's what we don't see - space stations, the interior of ships...I mean, does anyone doubt that visually it will look cool? That's one thing we don't have to worry much about around here. It's some of the core features that many of us are very eager to find out exist or not."

Audio you nailed it. I was sort of thinking the same thing, but its still too early for them show all their assets. We, or the majority of us,all want to be able to walk aroundin the interior of a ship, see dense nebulaes, out of this world cool looking space stations andother interesting things that are associated w/ outerspace. I think by the time E3 rolls around alot of our questions will be answered and maybe we we will see or hear about other things that populate outerpsace besides ships.
I was hoping that players would be able to land in other areas other than a starport when planetside. Based on the interview I guess that is not likely to happen.Looks likethe loading screen of death will still be with us and no cinematics or seamless flight to outerspace. I guessfrom game design pov its not feasible at the moment.
Outerspace twitch combat mixed w/ a little bit of aquired skillsshould be interesting. In order for outerspace combat to feel natural it should be twitched based. Good decision I think. Lets just hope the twitch based space combat ,including flight mechanics, will not be awkward and cumbersome.
Dark-Ranger
Bria Server- Master Bounty Hunter, Master Commando,Teras KAsi Artist Master,
Master Scout, MasterMarksman.....
Maybe I should give some feedback...
Those screenshots look great! I can't wait to get ahold of as many Imperial Vessels as possible...
I hope that I can use my joystick. I bought it and hardly use it anymore, it'd be good to have a reason to have it...
On a side note. Hey Q, you've nearly reached 900 posts!

Nice screenshots, but disappointed to learn the game will be very twitchy. We don't use Unreal to resolve ground fights. The accuracy of a pilot/gunner should be determined by the character's skills. If we wanted to play X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, we'd play X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. In an MMORPG, it should be the character's skills that are the most important. That's not say smart tactics by the player shouldn't have any bearing, but this shouldn't be an arcade game.
Quoted this from the first page - with reason.
I also agree with this viewpoint. However, I see why they are doing it the other way.
First off, I love the X-Wing and TIE Fighter series. Played it as a kid NONSTOP. I also consider myself a twitch gamer - hell, I play all sorts of games, and there really isn't a genre I DON'T enjoy. However, for this type of expansion pack, I believe there is no other way for the Devs to take this game. They have no choice but to go 'twitch' on us, and I agree in full about the decision. After experiencing the bore that is combat currently in SWG, I will be happy to see a different side. That is, if I buy the expansion pack. My main question, and deciding factor, is will other be able to ride on the ships with us? Can I have passengers? Can my ship, which I presumably paid millions for, hold cargo? Will it hold my armorsmithing wares? If the answer is yes to the passenger question, and the latter ones a "mabye," you got me buying. Star Wars isn't Star Wars if you can't bring a few friends on a ride with you into space with your cruiser.
Fingers are crossed...
IGNPC: Do players actually take off and land manually or does the game just warp the player between the planet surface and the stars?
Haden Blackman: Craft are stored on a player's datapad, similar to the storage of vehicles in the base game. Players deploy ships at Starports that currently serve as shuttle depots in the more populated cities.
Ok now playing Planetside you can land and take off and almost fly out to space if it was not for the roof of the game. .I really think you should add in real space flight and not the crap old take out ship .. click on it then you zone into space.. If your going to make this game do good in pulling in from the rest of all the new online games out there. MAKE!!!!! the ships take off and land by the players .. You can do this the technology is out there as seen in planetside!!!! the other game you also make(planetside)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All online space game lack this and they could have been great games but with the lack of controling your ship on the planet to space and on a loading dock in a space station makes the space game sucky.... Another question was lacking in this space addon .. the space stations if any does a player walk around them explore get into fights like docking onto a imperal ship and shooting them up? this would also make the addone to the space rock. And also ADD alot of contant .. this word iam sure you here alot of or the lack of. Starwars has so much contant and this game out for a bit already has nothing!!!!!!.. I know I sound like I hate this game. Iam infact thought this game in all its disapointment is still one of the better made game out to date.. untill eq2 and wow pops up ..So listen to the players and add what we want.... its not that hard since you made ship landing and taken off in your other games...
I been on the forum for COH they seem to really listen and answer there players in what the game needs.. take a note.. answer back .. and why you dont have any of this stuff on the add on or why you cant add this stuff I realy hink alot of people would like to know on this thread..

IGNPC: Where do ships reside? Is there a special docking area on each planet? Some sort of sub-orbital hitching post? Do players actually take off and land manually or does the game just warp the player between the planet surface and the stars?

Notice that Shug responds to the first part of the IGN question, but dodges the second part. As others have already posted, I'm very concerned that you will /deployShip out of your Datapad, right click on the ship, choose "Enter Ship," and then sit through another 30 to 60 second loading screen while "space loads."
Please let us fly out of, and land in, spaceports!!!
I want to land next to my house and start working on repairing my ship while deployed. Visually have a feedback on the repairs, see the damage disappear as I fix it. It'd be cool that I would have to replace parts of the ship, like the hyperspace motivator, thrusters, shields, eisenberg compensators and what not. Repairing a ship should require actual work be done, not like the speeders where you pull up at a garage, shell out some money and then see the speeder instantly fully repaired. Please don't do this.
Jump to Lightspeed... soon people are gonna call it JtL. Sounds like JPL... heh heh
I almost did on my guild's boards, but then I just decided to call it SE.
