Just a thought: What about associating buffs with the use of our special effects (ie. colored lights, dazzle, fire jet, ventriloquism). Currently the effects serve no real purpose and aren't used that often as they drain the action pool.
Each effect could be used to buff either Mind, Focus,or Willpower and could even breakdown as far as one effect for the buff, another to extend the duration.
Just an idea.

Which defenses worked the best? Dodge, Defense vs., Counterattack. . . which of the two trees seemed to offer the best overall defense?

Without question pistoleer defense destroys carbineer defense. just from the trees ok?.
Pistoleer.
Dodge +105
Ranged Defense +5
Melee Defense +45
Defense Vs. Stun, Blind, Dizzy +40
Defense Vs. Posture Change +40
Defense Vs. Knockdown +50
Carbineer.
Counter Attack +105
Ranged Defense +25
Melee Defense +0
Defense Vs. Intimidate +25
Defense Vs. Knockdown +15
I think the question he was asking is which defense are better: dodge or counterattack from either the pistol tree or the carb tree.
well if you are only going to go up one tree in either professoin the go pistoleer because in the pistoleer tree (gunslinger) you +100 dodge all together. Carbine tree (Infiltrator) you only get +80 counterattack. Which one actually works better? .. I think they are equal..
Well, some of those mods are quite obviously described in CTRL+S, so I guess I should have been more clear. . . which is more effective-- Dodge or Counterattack??? And to what degree?
Bear in mind, that skill chart doesn't necessarily mean a hell of a lot. +20 ranged defense for a Pistoleer may equal -2,000,000,000,000, or +5,874,638,592, or +/- 4 Big Macsworth ofranged defense for a Carbineer. As we here have learned firsthand, bugs, imbalances, and inconsistencies might just possibly exist in this game. ![]()
I really want some feedback from those who've tested it personally. (not that I don't appreciate the replies, particularly when they spell out the Numbers, as I should've done in my initial post--thanks for getting that out of the way and into the open. . . I don't know your name as I can only see the last post and have forgotten)

So it is NOT true that if you're holding a Carb your Pistoleer Defense mods (def vs stun, etc) will not work? I've been leaning towards Carb for its defenses, since I find myself holding a Carbine more than a Pistol, and don't want to waste the defense mods.
