Thread: Whats the Star Wars Universe without big ugly bulk freighters?

As has been said, the main problem is that someone can just load 5-10 million units of steel onto their person and backpack then hop a shuttle and transport the stuff where they need it. I see a couple of possible options for freighters:
1) Adding a freight consignment window to vendors. You load stuff ontoyour vendorvia this window, then put down a price you are willing to pay to transport the load. Then your freight appears in the nearest starport along with thepay and the closest destination starport. Once the cargo has been transported, the captain of the freighter would visit the freightmaster at the destination and the cargo would be transferred to your (or other merchants) vendor stockroom. Then you could sell the stuff from the stockroom using the current interface. Of course SOE could add another money sink here by charging a freight duty tax or something. To avoid this tax you could mark the cargo as 'illicit' and have a smuggler take the load with the slightly greater risk.
I cannot count the number of times that I have to travel between my shops on Naboo and Corellia. Usually I have to make several trips because my backpack and main inventory are full. This is a major pain in the buttocks. Using this sort of freight would allow me to manage shops and vendors on several planets without ever having to leave naboo other than to pay vendor maintenance.
2) An actual virtual market with commodities purchasing and speculation. Rather than planetary spawns of resources, the space version could spawn resources in various markets for players to purchase, transport and trade. Freighters would be required to take the marketables from place to place or to a purchasers commodities warehouse.Current factories could be used to upgrade commodities to a new level (ie a Food Factory could be used to convert bulkhops to beer which you could turn around and move in another market). Again, commodities could be moved via legal (taxable) avenues or more shadowy under-the-table means.
I think this sort of thing would be the end-game joy of a lot of non-combatant merchant and crafter types. I know that I would spend a great deal of time bidding to take someones cargo, purchasing freight goods. Hell, I might even purchase a couple more freighters and hire new pilots to work for me for a percentage. People could establish shipping empires. Sigh. If only this sort of thing was even on the horizon for SWG.
Ideally I would like to see both of these ideas implemented. I would

Guys, we really need to start another post that the devs might have more of a chance to look at and re-post these ideas there. Hey, maybe they might even listen. it's a chance... why not try?

I brake for cargo!
We should all make freighter posts and keep the forum saturated with them. We shall become the JTL rebellion!

My Gawd! I'd be a darn JTL school bus driver if they give us descent freighters and some transport missions.
I'd deliver newspapers, I'd be the bantha milkman, the clean linen man, the Cor-Sec uniform delivery guy, the Naboo garbage man, the fleet oiler, the Tatooine ice cream man, the Roto-Rooter man...anything!
Geesh!

I certainly hope that atleast one of the 15 plus ships is a nice, big, ugly frieghter. Imean BIG, slow andnot very manuverable. I'd like it to have a few gun turrets, dorsal and ventral hopefully...maybe a small, under-powered one forbore-sight firing if the turretsarent fireable from the pilots seat.
If everyone else has a Ferrari, this will be my 1979 Bluebird Schoool bus!! I wanna be the .50cal firing B24 to your 20mm carrying bf109.

A freighter would be cool but they would serve no real purpose. They need to have a purpose or they would be a waste of the devs time making them.
Maybe something like having a declared bulk freighter gives a +30 to NPC Accuracy, +40 Capital Ship Shields, and +20 enhanced starship shields, something like good stats to keep them at battles and worth keeping alive. I think bulk freighters if they are declared can have weak military guns attached to the sides and upgradeable shields, defense but not strength or stronger guns.
I can see them in big battles hiding behind Star Destroyers or whatever giving secret stats/upgrade to allied ships, stuff like that.

Hey man, I'm glad your supporting us and all (at least I think you are...), but settle down a little, man. We're having a jovial, civilized discussion in here. No reason to be so hostile... Just calm down alittle bit, hehe
Direct your anger at the Devs, if you must

I'd like something a bit bigger than any of the TY series, but not too big. Not too small, not too big, don't attract much attention
