Hiya, I'm usually just a lurker, but it seems we've been prodded out into the open for a bit. I'm Rick Delashmit, and I'm a programmer on JTL, primarily server side, with a smattering of client stuff thrown in for good measure. On JTL, I've done a lot of stuff with making ships with interiors work, networking for space, player controlled turrets, and general code infrastructure updates for handling the differences in how ground and space operate, etc. Prior to JTL, I worked on the ground game, with things like player cities, guilds, pvp, and various backend systems. Some folks may know me from way back on the original UO dev team as well.

I played the original UO when it released. Evenwith alot of real issues(thief class, murderers, housing, etc) it was alot of fun, some of my favorite gaming memories are from the original UO. I mean the original, before many things changed fast. That game sparkedan adventurethat has lasted many years, and has lead me through MANY online games. Now, SWG is my current gaming community. Thanks for your work back in the begining
. And thanks for your work now.
Just because there are issues, does not mean work is not getting done...
Thanks for your hard work all.
And thanks for the beta invite

Question for the dev team:
Does it ever get kind of weird working with the former competition?
What I mean is, sure the gaming and computerindustry has a lot of moving around. But SWG is kind of unusual.
You have former Ultima people working with SOE people, and now Wing Commander people working with Lucasarts people(no Mark Hammil doesn't count). It has to get somewhat odd at times basically working with people who at one point might have been your competition in the past.
I think competition amongst the companies is vital and the key driver with any money making business, but I also think that it's a bit more light hearted than your average company competition...at least amongst the developers. Marketing...now that's a different story.

My first thought when I encountered the spaceUI comm at the ground was: "Wow, what a great implemention. I love how personal the NPCs feel with this thing". Later, I found out that this was a bug and not a feature...figures. Please! Let us at least have it as an optional feature?

"SpaceUI comm, is purdy! I love the taunts and when I communicate with the stations. This currently bleed over to ground..Fixed today. But, it's too purdy to only be in space. Toggle for "speech boxes/comm" on ground? please? It's just so purdy and actually functioning so well. sometimes, the speechbox ui, bleeds out of view, if you're in odd angles..a comm screen wouldnt do that."
Where exactly would you want to use it? On the ground you can see the person you're talking to, so the vidcomm doesn't seem neccessary, or maybe i don't understand your question :]

Just droping a note saying "Hi!" to all the devs. And at the next Fan Fest, I am buying all of you a drink or five. Just ask Rhonda, she knows I'm good for it.

Why don't you guys post on the non-beta boards? I mean...most players are pissed and think this game is run by JustG, Vass, Thunderheart, Tiggs, and a room full of alcoholic monkeys. At least make a few read only posts
I thought the game was PLAYED by alcoholic monkeys.

Hello!
I'm a systems-designer/implementer, currently assigned to JtL.
For the ground game, I worked on crafting and resource systems. Also did aspects of the mount, vehicle, and combat droid systems, among others.
For the space expansion, my assigned areas are general profession data, pilot commands, droid commands, and numerous catch-all tasks. I wrote a handful of the ship descriptions, for example. All the real long-winded and wordy ones.
Thanks for helping test JtL, everyone!
For those of you that don't know....
We have all heard C-3PO spout off with 'Thank the Maker!'. This would be the Droid Engineer Maker....
Deserves a QFE. Nice to know the person behind the droids...

Wow, glad to finally be introduced to you all!
If you ever need anything tested you'll find me on Test Center
Great work on the expansion. I can see it will be Flazm's ear I will be bending for the UI tweeks I have been anchoring to get worked on

Hello Devs... I'm Ackis... sometimes known as the Uber Fish, other times known as a jerk.
One thing I've never done on these forums is hold back on my comments... both good and bad. Lately, there have been a lot of bad comments.
I would like to take this time to thank you devs for giving me over a year of an enjoyable game. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be in the game, because I've basically done it all in the game (ground that is), and it seems to be past my time for the game. To create a game of this scope isn't an easy job, and a lot of times it's thankless. And most of the time, I forget that there's a real person behind the red name, or a real person reading the post where I rip apart a game system that they developed and put work into.
I think this thread is a great idea, and to be honest it should be retained and made public once the beta is over and done with. It's nice to know that there are real people behind the scenes, and that they do listen, and more importantly they do care.
I would like to take this time to thank you all for the work you've done. /salute devs
