I've been working freelance for weeks now, finally managed to get 3-4-3-3, but I keep reading posts where people are complaining that JTL is too easy now! I've tried several different duty missions, several free spawn locations, and can only amass around 120k pilot XP per hour (doing some of the same things people have claimed to get close to 350k in the same amount of time). This is even beyond the fact that I can't for the life of me manage to solo the tier 4 mission I'm stuck on now, yet people are claiming that tier 4 is simple.
Ok, so maybe I just plain suck... I'm prepared to handle that if it's the case, but how on earth do you manage to survive 4-6 tier 4 enemies on your tail while you try to focus on killing the one that you're following AND trying to make it to the ship you need to dock with? I realize that SOE has some sadistic need to force us to team up with other players, but that's not always possible, my guildmates aren't perpetually there just waiting to come to my aid and I don't always like to ask when they are.

nah, you don't suck, they either are playing no stop 24/7 to get it done in a week or are just being a little, ah, optimistic in their estimates.

nope, you dont suck. Either 24/7 or have friends helping out. So easy to master it with some friends. I had afew people help me out, makes it sooo much easier
Dont give up & make the most of it. For me, i aint in a hurry to master it.

You can only master if its something like 24/7 of play. However you can make the 4mil XP requirement in a week. Black Sun duty missions rule.

I could earn 1 mill of xp in two hours' time on duty missions - no 24/7s for me. The destroy duties serve multiple purposes: funding, loot, and experience. Not to mention it trains you to deal with multiple high-tier ship engagements so you're not overwhelmed when it's six on one.

I won't say it's easy but here's a couple tips to help you try to solo these.Disable is your friend, target reactors and knock it out, once they have no power they can't chase and shoot you (unless it has a turret equipped, but even so it wont be able to chase you).
Don't fall for the tunnel vision trap,In a multi ship dogfight when solo if you try to concentrate too long on one enemy his buddies will eat you alive. As soon as you start taking fire on shields while chaseing an enemy hit r (target attacking) and go after him instead,it throws off the other ships chaseing you to get some hits in on the one you just targetted.Again I'm not saying it's easy but with a little practice and alot of luck it is doable solo but definately alot easier with one or two friends.

To expand on that tip, learn the key to "Target Craft in Reticle" - another ship might be closer to you, but if you're on some ship's six with a perfect shot setup - burn him first.

Disabling is not allways your friend, hadnle with care. Disabled vessel becom invulnerable for a few seconds, wich can be quite annoying
Most Important helper fer ya is droid commands!
If you overcharge Weapons and Engine (IMP Commands) Weapon Capacitor and Reactor (Neutral Commands), And reinforcements for yourShields, when they drop to low(Rebel Commands) then you can almost allways get outa every fight. You may also wanna find yourself some good RE'd Equipment, if you`re on Chimaera thenmaybeIcan provide some
Also your aim is a important thing. keep in mind, all small crafts like A-Wings/Khiraaz/TIE Interceptor you must target between the reticle and the craft itself. I hope SoE will fix this targetting glitch soon!
Solo`ing Tier4 musn`t be hard. It mostly depens on you Squad. i.e. For Rebels (i think) Vortex Squad is the one with the most difficult Missions.
Solo´ing the vette is even possible
but that requres some practice.... best I managed so far was downing the vette with just 2 people helping me
Solo'ing the Star Destroyer is pathetically easy, if no IMP players intervene
Hope that help`s ya m8

i made master in 5 days but i also was free from work and my girlfriend.. and my friends worked alot that week.. i loaded up with junkfood and played alot.. up to 3333 you dont need a wingman you can do it by yourself (smuggler pilot). later you need to find someone in the same spot as you make an alliance with a few people so they can help out on quest missions then you do the master missions.. they are verry easie now since kessel aint pvp anymore noeone can f*ck up you mission for you.
and yes disabeling ships is vital if you want to do play alone.. also use IFF alot if you have it.. didint use a droid command untill i got master but they are actualy quite good..

For one thing as someone else said, don't be in a rush to get through it, enjoy the process of getting the boxes. I've seen too many people who seem to have this attitude that the whole pilot tree is a major PIA that they would just as soon skip. It's not all about winning, as the saying goes, it's how you play the game.
I consider myself to be a pretty seriously addicted gamer and I only made it half way up the tree in Beta andafter thatit took me until new year's weekend to make master pilot, but I was also working both a neutral AND a rebel so it's been taking longer. Some of the missions are very challenging and take a lot of finesse, some require you to have some buddies, and sometimes you can get creamed by a mission and by simple luck the next time you will squeak through.
It helps if you can find some good waypoints, don't be afraid to just explore and find some spawns to mark, some of them spawn continuously so you can really rack some xp up. My rebel is 4433 and I've been neglecting him since making neutral master pilot since i've been having so much fun with my YT and Krayt. But, since I have 2 pc's I can put my rebel on gunner and because of that he's accumulated more than 2 million xp lol! I really need to get him finished up.
I've also found that unlike the ground game, the space game really benefits from warming up and practice. Learn to use your special and droid commands to help you too.
BTW good pointer about changing targets since they will line up behind you to hammer you, do a crazy ivan and that will make them scatter.
And one last thing then I'm done, watch your damage and be prepared to jump out since most npc's you will not be able to outrun, especially when you are damaged. Zig-zagging away from pursuers makes it harder for them to hit you. One trick I found during the jump process is when you come to a stop at the 5 second countdown, you can still use your boosters to move with! So if you are getting chased, go to jump and be ready to mash the boost button when you stop.

I have found iff spoofing during tier 4 escort missions to be very odd. I fly in start the mission but then the attacks begin. I do alright for awhile then my shields start to go and my armor starts to take hits. So, i iff spoof. This gives me time to regenerate shields and hyperdrive WITHIN the system to the spacestation for repairs. Usually when I come back to my escort craft. The attackers stop attacking and hyper away.
Either this is a bug, or the enemy ships are following me where I went previously. And think that I am back at the spacestation. Needless to say either way the iff spoof confuses them. I then proceed to escort the craft safely until it engages hyperdrive with no more attacks. This is how I did tier 4 mission 2 on my own.

I did the smugglers alliance freelance squad. Up untill the final mission to kill the vett I didnt need help on any missions. I failed a few once or twice, but always redid them and beat them solo, never had to do a mission more then twice. I did try the vett solo once, I was able to disable the two gunboats engines, the vett flew away, the fighter escorts left to engage some random rebel spawn. I was working on kiling the vett but it hypered away before I could really put much of a dent in it.
But I should probly meantion that im a huge flight sim fan, and have played them for years so I am willing to say im alot better pilot then 90% of the JTLS player base.
Personaly for me JTLS overall was kinda easy, but I dont mind, because while most missions were easy there were harder ones in there and I did fail a few after all, so it wasnt a total cake walk.
I can see how people who have never flown would think its hard, but reduding the difficulty of the game to nothing would be horrible I think. I think right now its at a good level. After all, JTLS is like the Star Wars EU in atleast one way, some people cant fly a ship to save their lives, others are seemingly gods inside a starship.
