Bought my first A-Wing. I had a bunch of nice tier 4 equipement to drop into it, plenty of low-mass stuff. I knew the mass would be an issue since this is supposed to be the highly maneuverable speed-demon of the Alliance Fleet. Anyway, I drop in the same engine I have been using on my X-Wing, the best I have seen with a max speed of 92. I put on a nice weapon, lighter shields and armor than I am used to and I take off. As soon as I hit space I throttle all the way up and hit my booster...
I am travelling at practically the same damn speed as my X-Wing. What the hell gives? A tiny increase in speed, but a huge reduction in fire power and shields. What is the point of this thing? Is this a bug that is goingto be fixed?
Needless to say, I dropped my components back into my X-Wing and have been piloting that since. The X-Wing is the master of space for tier 3 and 4... which sucks since I was fully expecting the A-Wing to have some good qualities and be a respectable upgrade from the X-Wing and something to help out in the 10 million xp need to hit Ace.
Well, any useful comments will be appreciated. Let me know if I am alone in this experience with the A-Wing.
Thanks.

Umm.. I cant help you with the ship info because im an Imp Ace, but I can let you know that you dont need 10 million XP for Ace.. If Rebel Pilot is the same as Imp (pretty sure it is), all you need to do it complete the 4 million XP toget 4-4-4-4 and Kill the Imperial Vette for Master Pilot. Good luck with Pilot.

Wow... thanks for that tip! I will have to try it out. If this is the case with Rebel Ace, I only need about 1,100,000 xp to Master. And here I was feeling burnt out and not willing to face another day of grinding. lol

If your useing the same booster and engine in your x-wing then you wont be going any faster. Chasis doesnt change your max speeds. At least i dont see any when puttin the same engine in differant ships...

I personally love my A-Wing. When you are using booster there is not much of a difference. However max speed without boosters is much higher. You are talking 875 in X-Wing compared to 921 in the A-Wing. Not only that but the turn rate is much higher. Try the A-Wing against a tier 4 mob and drop the throttle back to 75% and see how long you will last. I can last anywhere from 2 - 3 times longer before needing repairs. The down side is once you do start to take damage you need to get of there fast and fix it. Also it might take me more shots in my A-Wing to take something down but a higher percentage of my hits are hitting so the trade off is not that bad. The A-Wing will take a little adjustment to get used to but once you learn it you will love it. However if you are the type of pilot that likes brute power then the A-Wing is not for you. The A-Wing is for finess pilots and really need to think about the attack approach before commiting to it. Also droid commands come in very nicely to switch around your shields. With my current setting I can get either my front shields or the rear to over 2500. This is nice protection but you have to know when to adjust the shields which will vary by different enemies. If you are getting hit head on more often change it to the front. If people keep getting behind you switch it to the back.

lol, np.. I dont care what faction you are, as long as you're here to play and have fun, that's what counts... And when it comes to the Vette mission for Ace, you WILL need a fairly large group to help you with it.. The Imp Vette is the same as the Rebel Vette, it has 2 primary shields and7 (Maybe 9) Primary Weapons that pack a nasty punch, Along with 2 very protective Tier5 Gunboats.. Wish ya luck man..

Yes the chassis does change the speed. Go to the shipwright forum they have a list of the chassis modifier. The A-Wing is the fastest with .99. This mean if you have a 92 speed engine you will get 920 top speed. In the case of a 92.2 engine (rebel quest loot) you get 921 top speed.

So, maybe I am bugged... I have to go home and try it again, but the first time I put the engine in my A-Wing I got a max of 875 without boosters... same as my X-Wing.
Thanks for the answers, guys.

Maybe. I haven't reached the A-Wing yet, but it should certainly go faster by looking at those modifiers.

A-wings are VERY nice if you're the non-grunt type - not taking any shots, maneuvering around the enemy and getting behindhim. Basically, if you want heavy armor and shields, Y-wing's good
A-wing's all speed, all avoiding enemy fire, sacrificing defense for offensive power and speed.

I have to agree.. the A-wing kind of sucks - at least for me. Sure the extra speed and maneuverability is nice, but it's not that much greater than my X-Wing, andit still can't keep up with the T5 Tie fighters in Kessel. But maybe I just haven't had the right weapons combination for the A-Wing. I've tried mounting a L7 Advanced blaster modified for a high rate of fire (.27 refire rate), and it takes all bloody day to kill my target. On my X-Wingmounted with3 L7 Advanced blasters, I can chew up shields and armor pretty quick... and I'm not that much slower than the A-Wing. Of course my L6 capacitor with 49.5 recharge helps me big time.
