Does space suck as much as the posts here seem to indicate it does?

Should I even bother?

when you get bored on the ground, go into space. that's the only reason it's there, a distraction.

A lot of people really like space, and there's actually quite a few folks up there, especially during prime time. The grumbling on the forums doesn't accurately represent everyone who plays in JTL.

JTL is for simulator junkies. If you like flight sims, you'll probably do well here. If you hate them, then you won't care for it much.

My advice? Find a PA that flies together, or some folks to fly with regularly. Read the mission briefings and enjoy the storylines. Blow up everything that gets in your face.

Not only do I enjoy JTL, but it's a fantastic spot for money making and faction gain, if you're at all a decent pilot. There's lots of reasons to go into space.

i enjoy space, but no one is ever up there. its virtually empty as far as players. so wat do u do there? missions? it gets kinda repititious and tedious earning 1000's of xp

Well I took my first mission today, to go and disable some freighter. I thought I was doing pretty good until a total of 15 other ships showed up to destroy the freighter after I had disabled it. I was doing pretty good, eliminating all the fighters one-by-one as quickly as I could, only taking about 20-30 seconds each to destroy them, but I still ended up not being able to protect the freighter... having flown tons of flight sims and space sims, I can't see how I could ever have fought them all off -- and this was my very first starter mission. Bleh.

Space is a nice enough place. There are some pretty interesting missions to do if you take the time to look for them.

Get wingman, much easier to finish with someone else blasting the ships with you.

I thought JTL was a blast until I reached ACE. It is still fun, just not a lot to do. But I still feel that cruising around in space is cool... the graphics are nice.

I have alot of fun in space. At least IMO the "grinding" doesn't seem nearly as bad... or at least I'm not perceiving it as such.

I love space. Definately my favorite part of the game. Most of the great people I have met in this game have come from doing stuff in space with them. It's a lot more fun than the ground based game.

On the ground, a "Tier 1" player has no chance against a "Tier 3" enemy. It just doesn't happen.
In space, you in your Tier 1 ship could easily defeat a Tier 3 enemy. It's all a matter of how well you know your ship, and how well you are flying that day.

Ginding when you don't know space is slow. Grinding when you have explored and know where to go,

what you can hunt, and how to take it down, is a breeze. Even without a post master bonus, I could finish

the xp grind portions of pilot in 1/10th the time it took me before I learned what was what.

Space is great for spannerjunkies and sim fans. Nothing is much more fun than getting the best gear you can,

at least for me. I spend most of my time doing things with people, so space is almost never boring.

I probably like it because I wanted to like it, and I took the time to learn for myself as opposed to having someone

lead me thtrough, but I've been up there since early in beta, and I have no reason to come down yet.

If being gated at the 4th mission for tier1 Smuggler's Alliance for 3 weeks didnt drive me off, nothing will.

PS- if you're saying something like that, then the answer is probably no. You don't sound interested, and the game

is only going to give back what you put into it.

From my point of view, nothing says "Star Wars Moment!" like space pvp. When you fly with your squadron, 10 to 20 TIEs, then hear the "contact!" comm from the scouts, turn to this direction, and form up, then see the red dots appear on the scanners, and then see the rebel ships fly at you, first blaster bolts zipping past and you hit the boosters, diving into that pulk, weaving, dodging and shooting. That's Star Wars.
