As far as i know, the important stats will be specific to each part. I only played Beta for about a week and most of that was flying, but i crafted all my own parts also...it is pretty intensive the number of schematics, and the required list of resources....

For Chassis' you need a high OQ and Con
Componets range all over but OQ is a constant across the board.

They just changed the stats last week.
On chassis for hitpoints:
OQ, HR,SR, UT
On chassis for mass
OQ, Mal, UT, and one more..... can't remember
Each component is different I believe.
In the past it was just OQ and Cond, but it changed.....

Anyone know what stats players are looking for in their ships. As a master WS I've found the average player always goes for max damage, min damage, speed then HAM. So I build weapons to make them happy. If I want to build ships to sell do I make them with high hp or should I make them faster? Yes, I understand that the holy grail of ship building will be max hp with max speed. But do players have a preference?
(BTW: Speed & damage are linked in weapons. That is you can't experiment on speed & damage separately. Resources don't have different stats for them either.)

Speed is defined by the engine, not by the chassis. The components such as the engine are actually added by the player to the chassis. [Clarification: The chassis will impose a speed limit on your engine]
Players will want maximum mass in a chassis.
If there were no restrictions in the ship, this is how I'd experiment my components:
Armor - Max Armor
Shield - Max front/back shield
Reator - Max power generation
Engine - Max Speed and pitch and yaw.
Capacitor - Max Energy, followed by recharge.
Weapons - Going to depend on chassis. Either max damage or min energy/shot.
Droid Interface- Max Droid command speed
Countermeasure packs - Max effectiveness (can't get quantity up much)
Missile Packs - Max quantity, then damage.
However, when you get around to actually building components, you're going to have to balance these ideals against the mass limit of the ship...which will reduce the size of the reactor you use, so you'll have to balance energy maintenance as well as mass on the rest of the components.

The balance of mass vs performance is huge. Many folks will have to accept substandard armor, to allow for a higher mass weapon. Or a slower engine for higher output shields.
I think they did a good job on truly making one look at trade offs for ships. I know sooner or later folks will get up to the uber stuff, but early on low mass is often much more important than other factors.
