Does anyone know if this will be added? Im not talking about docking with the star destroyer like in that capital ship intro movie. I mean if im flying my corvette( or whatever cap ship freelancers get) will friends be able to fly up and dock and board it? Sorry if this has aready been talked about.I havent readthrough the 10+ pages of the capital ship thread!

Please remember that capitol ships are just a rumor at this point.

Yes, I saw the movie, yes, I know the devs made that movie. But, that doesn't mean that we're getting capitol ships. As of right now, all we know is that the devs are playing with the idea of possibly adding them.

Thus, nothing involving them can be confirmed or denied by anyone until a dev makes a post about capitol ships.

Man, you should need to be an ace pilot, a master politician, and have the highest possible rank in your faction; the cap ship should be able to function like a floating city with cantinas, hotels, cloning facilities, etc as well as be able to repair your ship and sell resources at.

Plus it should always be PvP so it's always a target for the other faction. You'd pay NPCs to pilot it for you, but if it were ever heavily sieged you'd need to call in your players to help defend. Oh man, cap ships can be so cool. Now I wonder how they'll actually make it.

I disagree. What does politician have to do with running a ship?? If I'm in command and give an order, you obey it or get spaced.

I'm more in favor of having Ace, Colonel on the ground, and a new "Elite" skill set for Pilot called "Ship Command".

All of the other stuff, Cantinas, Cloning facilities, etc are better I think for a boardable Station.

That's basically what I was imagining the cap ships to be; flying stations, accessible to people of that ship's faction(where neuts could define if any or all can use theirs) which can be attacked/defended from inside and out.

There'd probably be a 'gimmick' to destroying them, similar to boss fights in action games. I think it'd be great if they could incorporate space and ground fighting into one, kind of like in RotJ; guys on the ground have to take out a shield generator and once that's done the starfighters can engage the ship and attempt to bring it down.

yes but for it to realy function as a city to ahve enough players on one it would have to be like 3 per faction to have a profitable city as such it would be extremely rare and hard to get if able to get at all. it would probaly be something like its NPC managed but players can hop into comands stations like turrets and help fight off attackers or else one person would get into the pilot seat and never get out, degrading the experience for everyone

I "think" QFE is appropriate here....what, um, does it mean exactly lol?

Both the title of this thread and the highlighted message here, if ever done properly, would be without a doubt the biggest steps to creating a real immersive Star Wars MMORPG. That alone would take the Galactic Civil War, the game itself, and even MMORPG's in general to the "next" level. If they ever do this, anddo it well and at least mostly bug free , expect the population in SWG to grow 10 fold.

the bad: Guess that would mean the Jedi would grow ten fold as well...but ya know...if those things were put in the game, I might not even mind the whole Jedi population/Continuity/Timeline deal anymore

While I love the idea of player owned capital ships, especially after watching "the video", I can't figure out how they are going to be able to implement them, that is what the requirements would be for a player owned Cap ship. My personal opinion is they should add it to faction rank...along with a number of other new faction rank perks.

But now that the "Navy's" are implemented in game with JTL, they need to tie in faction ranks with them also. Split the ground and Space ranks and add more. Then you could tie a req in quite easily. They could do it for all ships for that matter ( of course that might require a "third" faction implementation on the ground, another good thing imo ).

For instance for lets say an Imperial to get an ImperialCapital ship (again which types would be available I really don't know as the only imp cap ships that I know are various classes of SD's) it would require:

a.) A minimum of Lt. in the Imperial Army on the ground (purchasable with faction points)

b.) A minimum of Vice Admiral in the Imperial Navy (purchased with faction prestige points)

c.) An Imperial Pilot Ace

That way, it would take a great deal of faction work to get to own a Capital Ship and substantially reward you for all of your devotion to the cause.

My knowledge of the Politician profession is very limited as I have never had an interest in building a city in game but I imagine a dockable space station could act pretty much like a player city. Instead of other players laying down houses, they could simply instance Apartments, but POBthings such as med centers, cloning facities and maybe even a cantina as well as the hallways/maindeck areas and such. Perhaps even shops could beinstanced and rented as well. All of this could be controlledby multiple politicians having to work together (heh imagine that chaos jeez lol) since "city building" is all that I can see that a politiciandoes, and no actual politics are really involved at all ( aside from normal "guild" politics that happen from time to time). Do Politicians even have to report to an Imperial governor in the game? If they don't, they should and thatcould be a tie in with allTHREE factions...I'm thinking the Imp. Gov. would serve as a sort of "faction" recruiter for all three factions... what all could come of this who knows...

heh whatwas a simple edit turned into a ramble...sorry for book lol

well they would need quite a sales pitch to increase it 10 fold. i think most the new players were refered to this game by friends now.

If I were a Star Wars game fan that did not play the game (either a total newb or a veteran) and I saw 1 commercial where Imperial Players aboard an Imperial Star Destroyer (s) with a fighter escort of more Imperial players in various TIE fighters/gunships, disable, board and capture a Corellian Corvette, I would buy/re-up my script immediately.

Heck if I saw Rebel players flying a corvette, hell ANYflyable shipthats in the game right now, and an NPC ISD disabled, and tractor beamed my ship then proceeded to board me with players I'd buy the game instantly.

If I were just a gamer, and not a star wars fan, I'd still be very interested in this game I believe. Though I really don't know since I have been a fan since the first movie was released heh.

you make an excelent point. it would be cool to be tractored and have your ship inspected just like in a new hope. that way you could make use of those compartments in the YT-1300 just like in the movie
