Thread: Player capital ships...

Just curious if there has been any talk of adding these to SWG. I personally think it would be alot of fun for a PA to buy star Destroyer and go out PvPing with it... It would certainly broaden the possible ways of PvPing IMO... Just curious.

People want these to be added. They want them to be essentially a space guild hall, with caitina and med center. Basically a city. Although this is a good idea, the lag would be awful, Every guild would want them. Then, the issue, how much for them? Hundreds of Millions? Shold they just be a rare schematic? The problem is that a Shipwright could make one then never have to work for the rest of his swg career, basically. As for pvp, that would be worse lag, and plus, it would be essentially who has the better shields and weapons, as the maneuverability is horrible, it takes millenia to get anywhere. But it is a good idea, just may take an extreme about to time to impliment into the game.

I would say its impossible to implement with the current space zones. Where would you put them. Can you imagine a zone with about 20 player star destoyers in it? it would be rediculous.


Maybe corvettes could be possible butI can't see anything as big as a star destroyer working.

well i think it would be a good idea for it to be stationry i know i know the whole points of jtl was to fly but stationary stardestroyer would make more sense then mobile one it could possible have a limited number to each space zone like the citys on the maps essentially it would be like a building with permissions on who can dock and such, but thats jsut my take on it

what i would love to see done with capital ships is that players could fire the turrets on the thing, thats all. I think that would be a lot easier to implement than the whole thing being usable, but thats just my opinion.

It would be cool if it were a live event. You know have Imps dock/defend a Star Destroyer from reb pilots and boarding parties.

In my idea for a GCW system capital ships are included in the faction rank system.


bascially 3playeradmirals in each faction will have control of a capital ship each ofwhich would need a min of 10 players to operate successfully.


anyway the result would be 6 fully operational capital ships , 3 Star Destroyers & 3 Mon Cal cruisers.

Continuity wise, a full blown capitol ship might not be as good as it sounds. Capitol ships were not something someone could have at their whim, certainly not imperials or rebels. Yes we can buy TIE fighters, which is pushing the envelope somewhat, but capitol ships might be going too far.


However ! What might be good is if there were capitol ships in space that were like NPC space-cities, where your ship would arrive and leave through in a landing bay. Then there would be facilities aboard like cantina and med center, as well as prominent NPC's from whom you'd get quests. There could even be gunning stations, where you'd have to do duty missions at. You could even have faction dependent crafting stations so that factionally aligned artisans could craft faction specific gear (similar or same asthe current ground-quest rewards, but of course you'd need JTL to access this). You could even do boardings of enemy NPC capitol ships as a kind of corvette type mission, but it would allow for PvP encounters depending who was aboard.


Then of course we need a similar set up for neutral players/pilots.

Read the most recent Stratic dev chat. They said they'd want to add something like this, but the technology to do it just doesn't exist yet.

ronda_lucasarts - Star Destroyers are super Star Warsy and iconic and lots of people have asked us about this.
ronda_lucasarts - It'd definitely be a very cool thing to play. Getting multiplayer ships in with Jump to Lightspeed was huge actually...
ronda_lucasarts - 20 people on one ship like the Lady Luck was an amazing feat.
ronda_lucasarts - Player controlled Star Destroyers are an even bigger technilogical challenge.
