Damn devs, didn't any of you play X-Wing Alliance? YT-1300's can lock the turrets forward and be fired from the cockpit. But not in JTL, you NEED gunners in order to fight. What's up with that? The Decimator and Nova are the same way and that just sucks.
Allow us to lock the turrets forward and fire them while flying just like we could in all the other Lucas Arts flight sims.

At least give us a mount for forward lasers (perhaps limited to Level4 or 5 ship component) or an autopilotfunction that follows your target while youare in the turret, andI am not only talking the YT-1300, but all freighters (multipassenger ships).

This was discussed heavily in beta testing. Most people came to the conclusion to leave Multi-player ships fully Multi-player. If you need a solo craft, there are plenty.
Now before you get all bent out of shape, here's the main reason:
If you allow a 'single player' mode for Multi-player ships, how do you balance it against other true solo pilot ships? If you try to do it, then it becomes useless in it's multi-player mode because you have 3 players getting the firepower of one solo ship, which is terribly underwhelming. Keeping it entirely Multi-player allows it to be more of small 'capital' ship whereby it can be more powerful than any single player ship.
That's the conundrum.
You cannot keep it both powerful AND a single player ship because then you have the 'composite armor' in space predicament.

with the current system multiplayerships are toast.
a tie fighter can blast a YT1300 with 3 shots...
so you wont really use a YT for PvP...cause you would die insanly quick.

OK, non of the MP ships are dog fighters, its not like locking the guns forward would make them this uber fighting machine, they would suck against anything but other large ships, but at least you wouldnt have this highly expensive ship that you never use cause you cant be bothered finding competant gunners.

Ok, first of all, the multi-person ships are gimp, they don't manuever worth a damn and they don't have better protection than a heavy fighter. A Y-Wing Longprobe is MORE effective than a mutliperson ship. Why would I have a 4 man crew in myMulti-Ship when it would be far more effective to have 4 people in their fighters??
If lvl 10 shields were 100K mass and had 10K shielding with 30 recharge, then I could see this being justified. But right now, my 2400 shields are the best I can get and those fit on my heavy fighter as well.

Multiplayer ships are not just about the weapons.
If you lock the weapons to the front, go out and solo - the first time you have to stop in the middle of a battle to get out of the pilots seat and repair a busted plasma conduit you'll be screaming you can't do repairs while flying.

Agreed.. multiplayer ships would be great if they have the option for both single and multiplayer functionality..

go hire some gunners or hire a pilot and be a gunner yourself.
its a M_U_L_T_I_P_L_A_Y ship
want to fly a fighter you got a whole raft of em to fly
For someone else to pilot the ship, they need to be certified for it.So its not like you canjust pick up anyone at the starport.
And if it is a truely multiplayer ship then we should not even be allowed to call the ship without being grouped with another person.
