Thread: What is the best weapon when first starting Jump to Lightspeed?
Next thing would be to get a better gun. Usually they can be found by looting them off destroyed enemies. The more powerful the better. Or better yet if you have got the astromech I cert already use a lvl 2 droid.

That one is real good until you are saied to get a better ship with a hyperdrive. For example... maybe try not to fight at full speed. About half speed during combat is perfect because it makes you turn faster and get those imp bastards sooner.
starting ships now have hyperdrive

To each is own, but i do recommend using a joystick. Preferbly one with 5 buttons, and if you can, a hat switch as well.
As an aside, i dont recommend using a disruptor, nor an ion. So if your using either one of those by chance, find a new weapon. Preferbly one with 0.6 vs shield and armor, at the maximum equipment cert level you have.
Aye, and that is the #1 reason why I became a pilot! Ground combat in SWG is sadly, like every other online game of the genre, ultimately nothing more than a jumble of cheap stats ... who has the better gun, the better armor, the phatter buffs, and has been playing the longest to get their marksmanship/brawling/whatever skill points the highest. You know before the first shot is fired who is going to win. It's all about character stats, nothing more.
But in space, all the uber gear in the world won't do a bit of good if you, the human player behind the controls, don't know how to fly your ship right. A "Tier 1" Newbie who was born with a Thrustmaster in his/her hand can concievably take down a "Tier 3" L33T Geek with the uber stats on their ship provided that the Newbie is an honest-to-goodness better pilot.
Thus, the ground is where you show off who has the best gear & buffs, but in space we get to see who actually has talent.
- Stick to Tier1 opponents. (Starter ships are fairly poor.)
- When you earn a box, choose the one that lets you get better weapons and equipment.
Once you've got that first box, life gets easier for a while.
Equipment is very regulated in JtL. The BEST BEST BEST Tier1 gun in the game is worse than the worst tier3 gun. So just going up one box means that you've surpassed the most uber Tier1 gun that you can find.

Eh... You know about the vitual joystick for the mouse right? Cause I use the mouse exclusively and really don't like how this games joystick interface works. Seems jumpy and hard to line up targets.
Plus the transition between the ground game and space is much easier if you never have to get off the mouse.
Mabye I'll trying going to the joystick again and see what i'm missing... Just seems easier to use mouse for me.

Hi All,
Have to say I'm finding this game real frustrating. I'm only on my second rebel mission and already I've been shot to pieces.
Any ideas whats the best weapon to attach to your starter ship?
Whats more what are the best individual componants one can use on the starter ship?
If anyone could help that would be most appreciated.
The best weapon you can have is a Saitek x52 or x45 Flight control system.
If you are easaly getting shot down chances are is you are presenting yourself as an EZ target because, the tier 1 NPCs can't hit the broad side of a barn. There is very little you can do do improve the starter ship, besides they are all excelent ships to get you through skills 1111 or higher. I am able to shoot down tier 3s in a stock noob ship so I know they are viable.
I hope these tips help
-Get a good j-stick (not some cheezy $10 thing, they tend to be jerky). I hate the throttle control on the stick but thats just my preference. I like allot of programable buttons so my hands never have to leave the controls.
-When in combat never fly in a strait line unless you are shooting something, even then you don't want to be following the target for very long.
-If something shoots you, imediately "target ship that last shot you" and engage it. Even if you allmost have your current target dead.
-use the rudder to fine tune your angle to get hits on your targets. Another good reason to have a stick with the rudder on the stick.
-most ships (Ties and A-wings being the only exception I can think of) will only turn fast at half throttle, the exceptions turn fast at full throttle. If you are trying to turn fast at full speed then you are actualy flying in a strait enough line to be an EZ target. Another good reason to have a good J-stick.
