Thread: Perfect idea for a PvP zone
Maybe there could be a couple choices of ships for the side you choose - you know, like choosing different classes in an FPS. But all the ships would have strengths and weaknesses which make playing as a team worthwhile. When you are killed you simply spawn back at the rebel/imp/privateer base in the same type of ship.
This way You would recieve no wounds nor would your actual player ship take any damage - you are just using the ship for this zone.
Here in this new zone you could recieve a "killed 5 players without dying - ACE", badge "killed 10 players without dying - Top-Ace" badge or even some kind of "Top killing ACE of the day record" badge - which would be like the race course badges for holding the fastest time for the day. There maybe could be faction perks as well, depending upon monthly kill ratios for the factions.
This way everyone would have a completely level playing field for PvP and you wouldn't have to suffer the annoyment of repair, hyper, enter PvP zone. Also, since this zone is using special ships for the players, the PvP Damage balance could be different - all the ships could have really weak weapons or really strong shields.
Of course, not to devalue the current PvP zones (of which no one seems to agree on anyhow) you could offer highly increased prestige points to player-killing in kessel (if it were to remain or become PvP again) or deep space. Also, I would impliment a loss of prestige points if you are player-killed in kessel or deep space >8) hehehehehehehe
Then I would make it so it took around 10 million prestige points to buy the schematic for the YT-2400 (ok, ok maybe a little less, but the kessel folk love a challenge). This schematic would have only 2 or three uses and would of course be quite uber 8D - Imagine how much the Shipwright could charge for a yt-2400!!! all master pilots would be certified in the yt-2400!!!. OR perhaps you can think of some cooler ship schematics to offer to these high-prestige players based upon their faction.
there, perfect PvP incentives for all kinds of PvPers.
If you don't want to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in kessel (in my world still open pvp - with, I guess, the corvette mission moved elsewhere) or deep space, then you can go get your player-vee-ess-player on in..oh, let's say the Alderran system
However playing in kessel or deep space is the only way to gain prestige points as well as the items I would allow only to certain prestige levels. Also there would be badges and other gifts! also the baddassical yt-2400!!! (or whatever ship your little heart desires for your faction)!
ItS PERFECT!
A very good idea for a 'fair' PvP zone depending only on player skill, and a good system for implementing various space missions (after Master). Not to mention that I agree with the "kessel (in my world still open pvp - with, I guess, the corvette mission moved elsewhere)" statement completely.

As someone who isn't familiar with the yt-2400 im curious, Why are so many people crazy about the yt-2400. It doesn't look all that remarkable to me, i find it somewhat ugly. Is it realy technologicaly advanced or a much better ship or something than a yt-1300? I'm just asking whats the fascination.

**EDIT** oh and as for teh original poster's idea, i think that would be awsome. It would be kinda like how the old battle fields were....when they sorta worked.

I'm not all that crazy about it, but I would still prefer to have it for my multiplayer ship simply because it lacks the 'Oh, another Millennium Falcon' factor.

It's a new, special PvP zone where when you enter you are given a default ship for the side you choose to fight on.

I really like your idea of making it similar to that of an online fps. It would be nice to have a part of space with absolutely no rpg elements in it (not that I don't like rpg). Like everyone having the exact same set of ships to choose from, respawning and getting straight back into the fight etc. Maybe the zone could have key areas to it, which teams try to capture (similar to BF).
I havn't started pvping yet in jtl but I probably will do at some point. I'm more of an fps pvper than flight sim, but anything with twitch based gameplay I'll have a go with, as I like to think its because of me when I'm winning and not my character. An idea like this would certainly get me interested, as I would be able to get straight into it and be equal (apart from skill), to everyone else, without having to worry about sheilds, weapons, armor, etc.
I would just make it a special ship to reward the big risk takers. Remember, the only limit is yourself!
please, if you think this idea is as good as I do, post or say something. sign it like a petition. Just keep this thread alive!
I think this idea is fantastic and is completely positive without detracting anything from anyone's experience! I think it's a perfect Idea that should (and technically certainly seems like it could) be implimented.
It would be so much fun!
I'm starting to feel lame bumping this so much, but I think this is an idea that, for once (maybe the first time ever), everyone can agree on! WHAT A CONCEPT!!!
Please keep this post up!
