Thread: Something that should be made clear before release
/bump for all to see, I think it's important for the future of this game.

I originally posted this in the beta forums, but want to share it with you all now that the NDA is no more.
I think there's a very strong conception in themind's eye of most people what JTL should be. We've all played the fantastic Lucas Arts space flight sims and love them, but that's not what JTL is and this needs to be made clear.
Ithought adev should absolutely make a post for the public to let them know that JTL will not be Xwing vs Tie; JTL is a MMORPG skill-based, "quest" driven flight sim. I know that when I first fired up JTL I was expecting it to be just like the other Star Wars space shooters I'd played; it was not. I've come to realize that my initial disappointment was due to me thinking JTL was going to be something it really isn't.
Most space shooters are designed with that one goal; fly around and shoot things. That's it. There's so much more to JTL, being that it's a MMORPG, that the fly around and shoot things aspect of it just isn't up to par with other games whose sole purpose is to do just that.
This needs to be made crystal clear via a public announcement or else you're going to see a lot of disappointed people who may only play the game for a week or so. I want this to be a success, I want to see more people playing SWG. You have to prepare the public properly for what's coming or you're going to let them down.
Actually JTL has the same goal - follow some missions and shoot stuff. You should be warned that the missions are nowhere near as developed and interesting as a single player space sim and the flight model, physics and space environment are also not up to the standards of a single player space sim.
Compared to the SWG ground game the space missions and skill progression are far superior.
Combat balance is non-existant. The current flight models and components mass/contruction/experimentation mean that all balance on all missions and PVP done during beta were wiped out a week ago. This is uncharted territory and you should expect many tweaks and changes to follow.
The graphics are nice and detailed - but very sparse.
Most Multi-Passenger ships are a bit of a waste - you need to be total combat oriented to get them and they are not much use for combat - but fun for teams. Luckily those who want MP ships for social reasons can get the Yacht (if they have SWG for 6 months).
I'm nothappy with it, it isnot what I was expecting, its not all that good- butI will still havefun with it. If you play SWG and have some friends/guild to help with the unbalance missions/ships and generally like messing around in groups - then it may be worth getting.
thx. This is unfortunately exactly why I won't be playing. It's just another timesink. I was hoping for something more inclusive.

you can build and customize ships. (I enjoy doing this).
The fact that it is Mass multiplayer.(you can challenge hundreds of different players and PvP)
exploration.
It was already said that JTL will still be tweaked further and new content will be added after it goes live.
JTL is player skill based, unlike the ground which is character skill based. But yes, unlike XvT it is a MMO.
It is very much a first person shooter and space sim, its just a lot of the controls you saw in games like XvT arent the same.
