Thread: faction
I'm not sure if this is the answer or not. But, is it possible you were grouped with someone who was entertaining who then ended up completing a faction mission before you were ungrouped?
I only say this because the other night I was grouped with a faction member who was playing the slitherhorn. Now, I don't know if he was in the middle of a mission or started fighting with people before he came into the cantina or what. But, about 10 minutes after we started playing together, these NPC thugs ran into the Cantina, supposedly after him. But, because I was grouped, they started beating on me too. Please keep in mind that I was caught completely unaware by this, and couldn't quite gain the composure to do anything except run around the bar a few times trying to get away, all the time screaming. Luckily, there were some kind souls who killed them. I gotta say, I can look back on it and laugh, but at the time, the only thing I could think was "holy crap!"
How exactly do "covert" and "declared" factions differ?
How/when do I switch from being covert and declaring my faction?
If I sign up at the recruiter with my 200 faction points, will I become declared?
If I have 2000 faction points in rebel and 2000 FP for imperial, will I appear neutral even if I am recruited with one side?
If I never sign up with a recruiter, will I automatically become aligned in the eyes of NPCs once I gain a certain amount of faction on one side?
Can I switch back and forth from imperial to rebel back to imperial?
I assume you have to be recruited in order to spend FP. Is switching to opposing faction in order to spend those FP, then switching back and advisable thing?
What are the pros/cons of being declared?
What are the pros/cons of being covert?
What are the pros/cons of being neutral?
Once you have been recruited, can you ever leave to become neutral again?
As you can see I have no idea how all this works, mainly because I'm afraid to make the first move as it may be a bad move that is unchangable. I have not seen any faction guides and the holocron is useless on this topic.
Thanks
1)Imps and Rebs both have covert and overt. Overt openly declares yourself to a faction meaning that overts of the other faction can attack you anytime they want. Covert is not known except to people of your own faction. It is sometimes good to remain covert, but being overt allows you to use faction pets and things of that sort.
2)You talk to the recruiter of your faction. You will not spend those 200 pts. when you join. After that, everything you get from a recruiter will cost points. Talking to him/her will make you a faction member. I believe you are auto-set to covert. However, talking to the recruiter again will show an option called "declare my faction affiliation" That will make you declared instantly. To get back to covert(other than dying), the only way is to talk to the recruiter again and tell it you want to be covert. This process takes an hour.
3)No, but you can join them both in that situation. Quit one, join other.
4)No, at least not for Rebs or Imps.
5)Yes, but the same faction costs still apply.
6)No, as opposing faction items could likely not be used if you are on the other side. So basically, you can't be a rebel with a stormie.
7)PvP...hehe. Certain faction things are only available if you are overt or declared. If you don't want to fight then don't do this.
8)Don't have to worry about being attacked unless you get a TEF.
9)Don't worry about either faction. ![]()
10) Yes.
I hope I have helped.

I've seen TEF on several posts, what is this acronym?
As I understand it, it costs nothing to join via a recruiter (other than needing to have 200FP). So you could join, quit, join, quit, over and over to your heart's content? Perhaps you have to wait a few mins before you can rejoin?
I heard that overt members cannot heal/trade with overt members of the opposite faction. This seems like a pretty big thing at first, but a visit to the recruiter to go covert and you're all set to be healed/trade. Am I missing something?
How are neutrals or opposing faction coverts affected by healing/assisting an overt?
If you quit a faction, what do you lose? Rank? Anything purchased with FP (henchmen, armor, weapons)? I assume if you have more than the max FP for a non-recuit (1000?) you lose those extra FP?
Advancing is rank only allows you to accumulate more max FP?
How many FP do you need for each advancemnt in rank?
How does FP costs differ between human an zabrak imperials?
Thanks again!
TEF = Temporary Enemy Flag, basically allows people to attack you.
It takes time to "process" your resignation from the faction (and you must be online for that period to my knowledge), so you cannot just instantly quit one and join the other. I'm not sure if you lose anything from quitting a faction, except the faction points you may have already spent increasing your rank or something else.
I've also heard that the reason to advance in rank is to increase the maximum FP you can attain.
The FP cost for advancement varies I believe, and is in addition to the 200 you must maintain to be a faction member. My first rank advance cost 400FP, and the next one costs 800FP.
Though I do not know the exact numbers because I'm a human imperial, I have heard that all of the FP costs are increased if you are an alien and in the imperial faction.
Hope this little bit of knowledge helps you!
What doyou guys think, as a smuggler and netural should we not be able to trade with any faction? I am getting a message that I can not trade with the opposing faction, as I am netrual how can it be opposing? and smugglers are dirty and don't care who they trade with. I think this should be fixed so that we can trade with either side.
Thanks

You can't trade because the player you are trying to trade with is either overt or has a TEF. Neutrals can not trade to such players.

I undestand this what i am saying is we should be able to as a smuggler.

Using that same train of thought then, medics should be able to heal anyone as well. Hippacratic (sp?) Oath and all that. Faction is more important than profession. If a Smuggler could trade to either side, the skill would get abused as a work around to TEFs. It might be a benefit to Smugglers, but it removes the risk given to those that obtained a TEF.
