Thread: Ideas

After browsing a bit I don't see anyone having tossed this idea out so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I think opening a FS slot is a LOT easier than most people are thinking. It could be something as simple as spending ALL 250 skill points then doing some small objective. Or a simple play timer. Or wearing a pink shirt with blue pants.Anything simple that everyone could and WILL do, but won't have happen for like 8-12 months of play for the casual player. They've said everyone will have a "chance" to become a Jedi. That implies a pretty idiot-proof system that insures people won't start selling FS open accounts and will keep people guaranteed to play for a long time (sound like SOE? yup!)

Would this flood the game with Jedi instantly? No way. The game's been out for over a month now, and how many Masters are there in the higher professions? Now look at that number and ask, how many of them NEVER died? Opening a FS slot isn't "instant Jedi just add water" it just means thatJedi opens as a profession, probably a base and higher level profession that you have to work hard as heck to level up in. Combine that with the fact that if you die you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN. That alone would keep the Jedi population fluctuating rapidly.

I play an artisan, probably the LEAST hazardous profession death-wise, and I die probably once a week just going to check my harvesters or doing simple destroy missions for easy $$. It's a dangerous world out there. Try playing for a month or so and don't EVER have to respawn. Then tell me when you're done that everyone who opens a FS slot is going to easily become a Jedi. I can't even concieve of how to play a combat class and get good EXP without risking death ever. Chances are when you see a Jedi, they'll all be walking very slowly, looking around carefully trying not to trip and hurt themselvesor do anything that could risk death unneccesarily.

Anyone who can expound on my idea please do. I think people just are getting too worked up over how to open the FS slot, and SHOULD be thinking of ways to keep themselves alive once they DO. Chances are most of us will get the FS slot, but I want to be able to do some good with it once I do.

I have always believed that opening the slot wasnt as hard as we think, but keeping a FS/Jedi alive will be.I die because of lag and freezes more than anything else.

"Chances are most of us will get the FS slot"

Without having any developer comments that contradict their previous statements, Force sensitivity is intended to be extremely rare. So, no, not really.

Will only the extremely lucky or hardcore players get to play Jedi?
"Jedi status is not determined based on "luck." However, Jedi is considered an advanced objective to achieve within the game. Casual and hardcore players alike can reach this objective because the path is different foreach player. However, it might take a casual player considerably longer to unlock a Force Sensitive character slot. "

How are you going to keep Jedi rare?
"Jedi characters suffer permadeath unless they reach Jedi Master status. You do not lose the Jedi character slot, but the character in that slot is deleted. Upon reaching Jedi Master status, if yourJedi Master dies he or she becomes a "blue glowy" (like Obi-Wan did in the movies) rather than permadying. In order to compensate for deaths that are completely out of control of the player (such as ones caused by network latency) each Jedi will be able to die a couple times before death is permanent. The life of a Jedi is extraordinarily difficult, and successfully making it all the way to Jedi Master should be considered the most difficult challenge in the game. "

Both of these are right from the Jedi FAQ. They both imply that it doesn't take a lot of complicated action, just time and effort, and that anyone can and will do it eventually. It doesn't say "how are you going to keep Jedi rare?" "well we're going to make only a select few able to get a FS slot"

Combine that with the fact that they've said they don't think the game really starts till you've mastered a few professions, and it's just a matter of time/effort. Something anyone can and will do eventually just by playing normally.

Will I be able to play a Jedi?
Potentially. For those who succeed in opening the Force Sensitive slot, the journey to become a Jedi will be very difficult and rewarding. It may be months before the first Jedi appears in a given galaxy.

I think you're reading that wrong. It says that the journey to become a Jedi will be very difficult, not the journey to open the slot.

Will there be a numerical limit on the number of Jedi allowed on each server?
No. We're not using artificial means such as quotas or caps to limit the Jedi population. We're designing an organic system that will allow the Jedi population to fluctuate over time.

e.g. There are no restrictions on how many FS slots will be open, or how many people can all be training as Jedi, it'll just be so freakin hard that not many people will get high up the skill tree.

Many people have alreadf spent all of their 250 skills points. Some have done it many times over and over.

The devs were quoted as saying it wont be happneing by luck or anything else. it is isnt wearning any types of clothing ir anything else that could be stumbled upon. If you were a hardcore player you could use all your points within 3 weeks. Yes that fast. Go look up the thread quoting the developer. Lots of ino there that debunk theroies.

Sorry, no dice

Granted, its still too soon to say with any certainty, but it needs serious debate anyway:

Politician and the Player City issues:

A city hall maintenance requirement of 50k or 100k, regardless of size is prohibitive. The maintenance needs to be scaled to the size of the city. The large guilds are going to make cities regardless of the cost because they can. There are smaller guilds and groups of players that this cost will run into the ground and therefore prohibit from building a city. The bigest problem I see, is that (with the current Politician skill tree) you get no bang for your buck. What does a city hall get you besides a means for a politician to collect experience?

Politicians should be granted the ability, from the outset, to place core town structures (Shuttle ports, medical facilities, cantinas, vendor tents) above and beyond city hall based on his or her ability to bring in the maintenance fees. Some ideas to help implement this follow.

  • SHUTTLE PORT

    • Fewer shuttle arrivals and departures from remote outposts. Make the wait times longer (30min) vice the current 10 min. Only allow shuttle to the nearest NPC City. Skill tree enhancements for this could be-

      • Increased frequencies

      • Increased choice of destinations

      • Make shuttle tickets to or from outposts cost more (say around the 500-750 cr range)

    • Allow starports for City or Metropolis level. Skill tree enhancements for this could be-

      • Increased frequencies (up to the Theed express)

      • Increased choice of destinations

      • Multiple shuttle ports for a city

      • Multiple starports fo metropolis

  • MEDICAL FACILITIES

    • Set up base healing rates similar to scout and ranger camps. Allow them to increase as city size and Politician skill increase with corresponding increase in maintenance.

  • CANTINAS

    • Allow Battle Fatigue (BF) auto cure rate to increase as city size/Politician skill increase with corresponding increase in maintenance.

    • Allow placement of NPC band that can cure BF for an increase in maintenance fees.

      • Start with a time limit or randomized schedule allowing for set schedule and more time as city size/Politician skill increase with corresponding increase in maintenance.

  • VENDOR AREAS

    • Limit number of vendors and or vendor areas placable and increase as city size and Politician skill increaase with corresponding increase in maintenance.

Structuring the skill tree as outline above also lends itself to allowing for a wider variety of politician skills. The ability to appoint a town council, for instance. As skill increases grant the politician to appoint commisioners to run a particular aspect of the city. Tourism commisioner, Health commisioner, Commerce commisioner, etc..

The structures listed above are critical to the success of an outpost through a metropolis and should be allowed to be placed in all. By ramping up the perks associated with structures as skill increases, you remain true to the more casual gamers, realizing that the power gamers and uber guilds are going to make it work regardless of what system is put in place. One must also incorporate the ability to allow a city planner (politician) and a cities residents to determine what they are willing to pay for - not just make a city grow into something they may not want or worse, require it. Appreciate the fact that someone is taking a risk when they place a city hall and begin to form a player municipality. Incorporate some sort of protection and benefit for the founders.

I am not saying make it so that anyone that has the skill/apprentice points and the credits should be able to start and maintain a player municipality - but a small group of about 10 players should be able to work to afford at least an outpost. The way it looks now, this wont be possible.

My two cents, take it or leave it.
