I am currently 3-3-3-3 reb pilot and was considering going 4-3-3-3 just to get an A-wing, but I looked at the Ship buying guild thread and it stated that A-wings have almost half the mass of an X-wing (average of 65k compared to 100k), and that A-wings only have 1 projectile weapon slot compared to the X-wings' 3. Is the only advantage of getting an A-wing it's speed and maneuverability?

yep, I didn't get to fly it in beta, but yes that's pretty much it, and the awing is supposed to be really really hard to hit, being small and fast.

AWing is zippy, less shielded/armored and lightly armed. It's an interceptor
XWing is average speed, has better shields/armor and carries a medium amount of weaponry. It's an all-purpose fighter.

imo the x-wing surpasses the a-wing by far. the a wing is a pure PvP ship if you ask me. not good for any PvE fighting. i am reb pilot 4,4,3,3 now. and i redeeded my a-wing after 30min. it just has to low mass. and no firepower at all. the a-wing wil be blow out of the sky in 1 almsot and the guns are like pea guns.. juust ticking the enemy off not doing any damage agains high lvl mobs lol.
They bneed to redo the whole mass system imo

A-wing was always hard to hit whenever i would run into one, I tend to have a hard time hitting A-wings Z-95's and the elusive Scyk Hutt ship. If you want a good pvp ship there you go. And 65k mass?? Man the interceptor only gets 50k

I was pretty amped to get an Awing for my rebel pilot but was a little bummed when i finally got into and started testing it out. heres the prob i have with it. Its advantgage is that its incredibly fast and can be very difficult to hit if a good pilot is driving it. The problem is that dodging and weaving and zigging and zagging is all great and fun but EVENTUALLY you have to attack and in order to take out fighters while in yer awing youll have to slow down so you can damage them, and once you slow down you have just lost every single advantage the awing has (and yer plinking away with a single little pee-shooter gun). I dont PvP but i could see the awing being redeemable and possibly even useful in PvP but im not sure. As far as PvE goes tho they are damn near useless. sadly. =(

I use my A-wing allmost all the time, say 90+%. Even when takeing out gunboats solo, I love the speed and low profile (harder to hit). The only set back as stated is it does take me twice as long to take out lvl 5's. When I am in a hurry, our helping out someone I do use my X, just for the quicker take down time.

even while slowed down and on a fighter's tail your awing is still alot harder to hit than an xwing. i use my xwing for great firepower while out getting loot but when its time to do something dangerous i strap on the awing and become imortal. keep flying it and you will love it.

The A-wings in the Star Wars books were meant for either quick attacks, reconmissions, or special ops. As you saw in Star Wars A New Hope X-wings and Y-wings were mainly used for frontal assults like that.

awing is damn fast and hard to hit, cause its so tiny
yeah, it may have poor protection
but it makes up for its tiny size and amazing speed
just get that reward engine from tier 3, strap it on, with engine overload 3
you got a very very nice speedy ship
itd be even nicer if you could get your hands on one of those prenerf 92 speed reward engines
(your not touching mine >.>
