Thread: Regarding the Jedi Starfighter(and it possibly being Jedi only)

For those of you that say: "Why should the Jedi have their own ship?" Why not take it a step further and say why should they get their own type of clothes and weapon? Thats ridiculous. The Jedi wear Jedi robes, although, logicaly, their just cloth robes that shouldnt be hard for any tailor to make. The Jedi use lightsabers, which, while not easy to make, shouldnt be impossible given the right technology. The Jedi have very specific fighters they use called Jedi starfighters. The type of ship that is the jedi starfighter is the 'official' starfighter of the Jedi order, just as jedi robes are the official clothing of the order, and the lightsaber is the official weapon of the order.

Now, the YT-1300 is known to be a cargo ship, which makes it good for smuggling, but that is not its sole purpose, and that is why people can use it other than Just smugglers. The Firespray was only used by the Fetts(and Boba only used it because he got it from Jango), but that doesnt make it a BH ship. There is no BH ship, or smuggler ship, because there is no official BH or Smuggler order which has certain things likeuniforms/weapons/ships like the Jedi Order does(or did, before beind destroyed).

By you saying the Jedi starfighter shouldnt be a Jedi only ship, your also saying that Jedi robes shouldnt be Jedi only clothing, and lightsabers shouldnt be Jedi only weapons. If you want to push for that, be my guest, but dont expect to go anywhere. The Jedi starfighter was just as much a part of the Jedi order, during Republic's last days, as were their robes and lightsabers. The jedi temple maintained their own starfighers just as they did clothing and weapons.

All that being said though, Jedi shouldnt get special force powers to use in space w/ their starfighers, as Obi-Wan displayed no such powers in his 'fight' with Jango Fett.

The main reason most of us say the jedi star fighter should not be jedi only, is be the devs originally said our ground profession will have nothing to do with space. therefore, being a jedi should not entitle you to having your own special ship.

From the pov of a BH ifjedi get there own star fighterthen they should gain xp and vis while using it and we should be able to hunt them in space.

Really? What would give them xp about using the ship? It seems they would get pilot xp, but if they arent using force powers what does that have to do with jedi powers? They dont get xp for wearing their Jedi robes do they? Now, what I DO think, is if its a jedi only ship, fighting in it should give vis just like using your lightsaber, as it shows you are a Jedi.

This is all a moot point folks. It wont be a jedi only craft. Thats obvious.

It might be easier for some to stomach if they look at it as a "republic fighter" instead of a "jedi fighter". Its clearly different then the actual jedi fighter from EP:3 (ie; no astromech socket and a handful of cosmetic details) so its most likely going to be a version of the jedi fighter. This is after all just another craft that was made on contract by a shipyard. And as many have pointed out previously, this is basically the prototype for the tie fighter so it cant really be that good anyway.

My guess is that it will be a limited use schematic that is aquired in some unusual way, probably via a DWB type themepark on Kashyyykk. And i bet it will be for any master pilot to use. If its limited by who can use it, it would be for imperial pilots i bet, considering thats all thats left of the republic forces. I cant imagine a groundgame profession will ever have a bearing on what ships you can or cannot use, it would go against the whole premise the devs have set with seperation of ground and space games.

but thats just my 2 cents

Your right, its not the Jedi starfighter we saw in ep II, its the Jedi starfighter II from ep III. Its not the 'republic fighter', which the clones are flying in ep III either, as that is more similar to the x-wing, while the Jedi starfighter II looks a bit like the TIE fighter. But once again, all things I said in the first post apply to the newer version of the Jedi fighter.

Well Ladies, The ship isnt called "Jedi Starfighter". It is a Delta-7 Starship with Hyperspace Ring addon capabilities.

Are you talking about the ship from ep II? Because thats not the ship thats going to be added w/ the expansion, its the Jedi starfighter II(TWO) from ep III.

Here is a quote from another thread, in which I was responding to the following comments, made by someone who said the ship should logicaly be able to be flown by anyone w/ pilot skills:

Fine - but if thats the case then anyone should be able to pilot them. Its technically possible for an average person todrive a cop car if they have the skills - but arent a cop. The jedi starfighter isn't force weapon like a lightsaber. Its a machine and as such it should be used by anyone with that machine's skill. period.

My response to this is why is the x-wing/y-wing/b-wing/a-wing only flyable by members of the rebel alliance?(or if your a rebel pilot). Using your logic, its just a ship that should be able to be made by any shipwright, given the parts, and flown by anybody who knows how to fly a ship, right? So that would mean imps could fly x-wings, and rebels could fly TIE-fighters. That is the EXACT same logic you are using as to why anybody should be able to fly a jedi starfighter. So dont contracdict yourself. If you want anybody to be able to fly the jedi starfighter, since its just a ship that can be made by a shipwright that logicaly anyone who knows how to fly a ship can fly, you also have to apply that logic to x-wings and TIE fighers.

well if i remeber correctly the jedi starfighte was actually designed to harness the jedi's force powers, so the jedi could fire lightning, or even slow down time. not sure how they could put jedi powers in space unless they were designed as a fun alternat way to kill enemies or make it easier to progress through the ranks (give them extra starship combat maybe? they've been doing plenty of grinding already)

Oh, and what kind of jedi starfight is this?

Is it the purple one from ep2 or that yellow one from ep 3?
