Thread: Boarding Parties
It would add suspence, realism, and excietment for the game if an option like this was added.

But unlike the current Corvette Dungeon, these "dungeons" will have PvP.

Imagine at Master loading up a multiplayer ship disabeling a freighter, docking and sending in your own boarding party to take over. Of course someone needs to b eleft behind to defend the ship from attack. This would be the ultimate JTL experience I would think, plus you can still use your ground professions. Even once the Friegther is taken over, one of the party members would have to repair it and fly it, perhaps even putting others on gun locations. Please SOE make this happen!
I agree. This would be the ultimate mixing of both SWG and JTL. I am quite surprised to see that this wasn't included in the expansion. Of course, such missions couldn't/shouldn't happen in standard PvE/PvP zones since it would be to easy for the no longer manned MP Craft to be capable of properly defending themselves from other factions.
This would be a very cool and very effective way of incorporating both aspects of the game together. It could even be flexible enough to keep things 'busy' for fighter escort players while the MP Ship players make their way into the enemy vessel to complete their portion of the mission.
A good mission like this could be setup to run for roughly a good hour or so of playtime and have a decent enough of a payout to make it worthwhile for all involved.
These missions could involve, retrieving secret plans from a Rebel Blockade Runner, retrieving some lost goods or information for a Hutt Crimelord, Capturing an Imperial Officer/Scientist/Shipment of Alderaanian Flora (To bring back some 'Deadeye' Crafting Materials...). Any number of nifty reasons for putting together such assault teams.
This would be the grand missions requiring large groups of 20 or so players to complete. 50% or more of them could be in the MP ship, with the remaining providing fighter screen coverage. There could be 'ultimate' rare space loot drops for the one or two best aces involved in the space battle and some special uber component/weapon/armor or other do-dads for the best one or two boarding party combatants along with a significant credit reward for all involved.
Thochkored wrote:Those all sound like excellent scenarios, I suppose that the Corvette one would be easiest to implement since we already have Corvette maps. But I think raiding a Spacestation woul dbe just as much fun, especially if we get Faction Bases in Space. Keep the ideas coming!
Of course Asteroid Bases and Standard 'Free-Standing' Bases should be created to support these types of missions to. These types of missions would be best as an Instanced mission, scaled to the size of the party involved.
They should be doable for groups as small as three players all the way up to 20 players in a group.
Regardless of how they are setup, most of them should act as an instanced adventures in different areas of 'Deep Space'. There could also be some geared towards two or more factions that have set start times and can involve random groups.
There could be private battles between Imperial and Privateer groups, Rebel and Privateer groups or a Rebel on Imperial group 'lovefest' in teh GCW tradition, in both space and on a station/capital ship of some kind.

I should think instanced dungeons would be less intensive (since that is the techonolgy currently being used by SOE and other to combat lag and such). I shouldn't think it would be hard but I am no expert. I would think though if they limited it to only being a space game to the point of boarding and then switching everyone back to ground game it wouldn't be horrible you just wouldn't want the group existing in both worlds at the same time cause that seems like it would be near impossible.
If this is referring to the squadron in space and the group that has boarded the station, how would this be any different from having a group with 5 members in space and the other 15 on the ground? It works just fine now. They dock with the ship and are then loaded into the ground game. Furthermore, we are currently all loaded twice in space (our PC and our ship, check it with ctrl+1). The boarding party would only be able to interact with the space bound members through group chat.
It obviously would be a huge undertaking but at the same time almost all of the pieces are in place it is just putting those pieces together. The zones would have to load (ground to space and vice versa) just like they do now but it wouldn't be any differen than the way that things function now.
