Thread: Missions are too long and difficult. Most get frustrated and give up.
Maybe this is elitist of me, but I think the Master Pilot badge *isn't* for everyone to get.
You can't AFK-grind, you can't get buffed and walk your way through. You have to have skill. It's a twitch based game, very unlike the ground game, and your tactical skill, reflexes, and situational awareness mean everything. Some people don't have those abilities.
I like that somemissions and some squadrons are harder than others. You don't have to do the difficult Imperial squadrons, you can do one of the easier ones. I want to be challenged. I want to get frustrated. It adds to the accomplishment when you finally finish it.
I spent a good 2 weeks looting components and earning cash to go from Tier 3 to Tier 4. Yes, you need good stuff, but you also need to be a good pilot.
Hard missions teach you to be a good pilot.

Thats just some gripes, the point is until you elitist people pay 24$ bucks for everyone to have JtL and 15$ a month EVERYONE deserves to be able to get ace pilot not be gated bythose insanemissions. Until then you elitiest people cant say crap about who deserves ace or not. Elite Aces arent the majority, so i wouldnt get to high on those horses, enough people complain JtL WILL be fixed.
It takes skill and cash to master. You can have the best gear out there and still suck as a pilot and fail. And on the flip side you can solo rebel gunships in a starter ship.
Skill and knowledge of your enemy can make a big difference
JTL does not take tactical skill......it doesnt take "twitch reflex", *sigh* it really doesnt take $hit, the only thing it takes to master JTL is ............ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If you have the credits to put into the best ship chasis that can be made, and the money to buy high quality low mass equipment *shrug* Ace Pilot in 2weeks tops....
There would be more people playing JTL which = More Space PVP which = More Fun which = MAKE JTL MORE FRIENDLY ALREADY SONY
I tend to disagree, I have $$$$$$$, two accounts and several characters.
My characters all have different professions, so if I get bored with playing one, I can switch to another. (I had pre-cu Master Doctors so I made quite a bit of $$$)
I have all of the best equipment, but none of my characters are Jedi or Ace Pilots, because, those are not easy feats for me to accomplish. This fact has kept me playing for almost 2 years. Plus, I work 5 days a week and only have time to play on my recreation time.
If I could easily ‘master’ everything, I would have already done that, and probably stopped playing long ago. Many players have complained of nothing to do after ‘mastering’ a profession and quit playing.
I can’t count the number of games I have purchased, beat and never played again within a couple of weeks.
Sony is stuck between a rock and a hard place. They can’t please everyone.
I've seen posts here saying they are quiting because, JTL/Jedi is too easy, or JTL/Jedi is too hard.
SWG is an ‘investment’ for both Sony and us players, so I would like to think that they make decisions based on what’s in the best interest for both of our investments.
Their strategy of ‘challenge’ has worked for me, and has kept me playing.
Just my 2 cents here....
As a Rebel I managed to solo up to 4433 - some missions I've done 5 or 6 times. Why? Because I rarely can find anyone high enough level to help me. On my server *no one* PvP's in space - space is dead.
Now, I'm stuck on my lsecond-to-last ast tier 4 mission where I am supposed to meet up with some fighters and attack waves of ties/gunboats. Well, the first wave spawns with 8 tier 4 ties and a couple of tier 4/5 gunboats, and *all* of them aggro me and only me - not my NPC escorts. Needless to say, the mission doesn't last long, and I've tried it about 8 times thus far.
The "aggro only the player" system is BS. Maybe I need a better ship/weapons - I'm not sure. But to get this far to be stymied just isn't fun anymore for me. And knowing that there aren't other players out to help me, and that NPC assists are useless, well...I don't know what my alternatives are at this point.
A game should be challenging, but fun as well. Instant death every time you take a mission isn't fun. ![]()
i'd just like to say, you can spend all the money in the game on the best parts, but you still may never master. it dose require skill to fly. i'v been on many missions and the one thing i noticed is all the guys that did the run and gun were dead in seconds.
at the end of the day if all things were equil then skill would be the winner.
XStarbracer wrote:I have to agree, and for the record Im a 2 time ace in SA and Imp Inquisition and soon to be in Rebel Vortex Squadron. I can handle gunboats and vettes mostly without a scratch and i train other pilots and help on missions and i agree with these people and hope JtL gets fixed reasons being1. Most missions namely Escorts are too long and boring, you can only disable the same ships again and again and again without being bored out of your mind.2. Mass and componets are a pain in the arse managing and fitting it in for the majory of people.3. All factions should have a squadron that ranges from Challaging, Difficult and Easy, so its accessible to everyone.Thats just some gripes, the point is until you elitist people pay 24$ bucks for everyone to have JtL and 15$ a month EVERYONE deserves to be able to get ace pilot not be gated by those insane missions. I'd agree with all those fixed except the 2nd one. Tweaking out and building a custom ship is a lot of fun for me. I would agree that ACE isn't for everyone, except the fact that a lot of the coolest ships are only avalible to Master Pilots... which is a dilema, you need somthing to strive for, but it is a twitch game, and a lot of people just want to cruise around in a YT-1300 and not really fight anything, and just might not be good enough to get ACE. I do think that your 3rd idea is a good one. Everyone can get the ships they want, and everyone will know who the really good pilots are. (I'm only mediocre, I can handle most Tier 5 fighters, but gunboats kill me... this other guy in our guild though.... he solo'd the Ravanger last night just for fun....)
This isn't trying to be preachy or L33tist, but space combat really ISNT for everyone! Some people just can't wrap their heads round it.
I have a friend who is pretty kick ass on pretty much any game, but stick him infront of xwing vs. tie fighter and he goes to pieces!
I'm not being derogatory or anything honestly, but some people just don't have the right brain. You mabye good at some things, but you can't be good at everything.
Of course, this is something that SOE should address at some point with JTL, because obviously these people are getting left out after they've have actually PAID for the pleasure of finding out their spacial awareness isn't 'tweaked' in the way that some people's are.
The best thing we can hope for is that, rather than CHANGE JTL, SOE ADD to it. Have more things to do for non-combat players in space, (or people who think they are combat players but find it 'hard').
The amount of non-combat content in JTL is no way near the level of the ground based portion, and as such I'm sure they'll address that at some point.
