Thread: JTL Will it really help this game?

From what I've seen/read (and no, I'm not in beta or anything) Jump to Lightspeed is going to let players take starfighters and a few other types of ships into space and have faction battles there, right? And there are space-based missions I assume.

Is that it? Nothing more?

Since there is no space mining or real exploration (or reason to do so), are starships nothing more than a new way for people to PvP? And perhaps a cheaper/quicker way to fly planet-to-planet?

As nice as all the movies and screenshots have been, I think this expansion is going to be an overhyped graphics-heavy shooter mini-game add-on to SWG. That is extremely lame. :/

I'm a neutral crafter...what reason do I have to go into space? Pretty graphics are great for advertising, but if the gameplay and depth aren't there, JTL is going to be very lame. It MAY BE groundwork for some spectacular things in the future, but isn't that exactly what the whole game is right now?

Thoughts? Opinions? Flames? Secret beta info?

It's a hit or miss thing imo. I can't say more than that. I think you'll either love the expansion or you'll hate it. No middle ground

I can't believe I heard "Space PvP...is that it?" I can't believe you said that...there has never been a game where you can fight someone over the internet in starships. It is going to be awesome. In answer to your question "JTL-Will it really help this game?" my answer is "ummm yeah"

Reebeel: First of all, there HAVE BEEN games where you can fight others over the internet in starships. There hasn't been an MMO that's meshed ground/space together, though.

Howeover, the reason "PvP in space" doesn't interest me much is that PvP in this game is useless. You gain nothing through PvP. The war does not progress or change. The GCW affects nothing on the ground...and if it doesn't in space either, then what's the point?

I've played tons of action space games. Shooting at ships could get very old after...say...a week?

Ever heard of Fun? The other point is to become the best pilot ever...unlike the ground game where the only thing that matters in PvP is how good of a template you have, in space there will be people "famous" in the game because they are really good with a joystick. It will actually involve skill, rather than time. I'm sure the piloting skill tree wil make a little difference but not too much. I really am looking forward to good ol' PvP that relies on skills, rather than templates.

BTW I'm sure whoever has a better ship will make a difference too...however the people who will become "famous" in jtls are the people who beat a super X-wing with there starter ship/

Why you got into fame, I dunno. And don't think I'm just a stick in the mud. I love all types of games. But my main point here is that the ground game is going to contribute to the space game, correct? Characters will mine resources and build starships.

How is space going to compliment the ground? It's MERELY another way for people to fight/gain faction points (which I think is a retarded system in and of itself).

I'm not questioning the FUN of fighting others in space...but the EFFECTS of it. If Famous Joe defeats some uber pilot in his tricked out X-wing, what good is that going to do the Rebels/Empire? Did he do it for some larger purpose or just "to see if he could?" He may have killed that one guy, but what did he actually ACCOMPLISH?

Skill building and crafting, as lame as grinding is (something that needs to be rethought as well), DOES at the very least let you accomplish larger goals.

So my point is, the GCW is bare and useless right now, and that is the very thing JTL is made for. As I said before, as a crafter, what reason do I have to go into space?

your reason for going into space is you can use combat and the fact you dont have your defence stacked on the ground doesnt hold you back.

at the other person im aware of the nda thingy

This is actually one of the good things about it, you can be a neutral crafter and be on par with everyone else in the faction of your choice. You can be as bad@$$ a combatant as they come and still be a dedicated crafter. You can pick a faction without worry of PvP due to TEFs if you like. If you just aren't interested in fighting or the GCW, then it won't be of any use to you. But, if you are, PvP exposure and the right template watering down your combat abilities are no longer concerns.

Missions.

And to the guys who started the post...like something3P0....I see your point with the effects thing...but i think the fun of flying around in your own YT1300 or X-wing or Tie will hold us all over till the GCW revamp.

I don't need combat as a crafter. :/ That's my whole point. Is there anything to DO in space other than fight?

And is that fighting going to affect anything on the ground?
