Each week, Q-3PO started a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Tuesday Tips will continue on. Have a little known command you use all the time, a cool place to visit, a trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here. To get things started:

Getting the most out of your Space Zone Map

Your "Space Zone Map" is accessible by the default keys and acts similarly to the planetary map, giving location information for places and objects in the sector of space you currently occupy. It is a three dimensional map of the space zone with a range of extra controls that allow you to manipulate the viewable map.

  • Zone Map Macro Button

The first part of the tip is that you can make a macro button to access the map easily:

1. Press CTRL-"A" to open your "Abilities" window

2. Click the "Macro" tab

3. Click the "New Macro" button

In the macro button window:

      • Name it ZoneMap

      • Pick an Icon

      • For the macro text, type: /zonemap

4. Click Ok.

5. Drag and Drop your icon from the Abilities Window to your toolbar.

  • Zone Map Controls

Basic Controls

These basic controls move the camera "inside" the zone map like this:

Left Mouse Button: Pan camera around "inside" zone

CTRL+ Left Mouse Button – Rotate camera

CTRL+Mousewheel – Camera Zoom

Slider under Zone Map Window - Camera Zoom

Reset View – This centers the camera on your ship

Show - There are 8 items you can toggle on and off by clicking these radio buttons:

Different Items Include:

    • Asteroids

    • Nebula

    • Hyperspace Points

    • Space Stations

    • Waypoints

    • Mission Critical

    • Player Location

    • Player Names

The neat thing about the Zone Map is that you can double click on the menu items on the right hand side to reposition the camera around the zone on the fly. This allows for an easy "browsing" of what is in the zone.

Also, by right-clicking on the menu items, you can easily select the options of "Make Waypoint" and "Autopilot to location".

If you forget any of this while you are in game, click the "Show Help" radio button and the tool tip windows will go over the basics with you at any time.

this will be really helpful...I am completely confused by your 3-D map in the game...I'll try some of this stuff to see if its any simpler.

When going /afk and not seeing your own chat bubbles anymore (and no messages from yourself in spatial chat either) then it's most likely the active afk filter (yes it affects yourself too unfortunately).

Want to travel to another planet instantly without going to space?
That's possible now if you have a ship that has hyperspace capability. Simply access the starship terminal and click the "travel" button. It's like as if you took a shuttle but it happens instantly and doesn't cost you money. Also, and that's the main reason the function exists, you take your parked ship with you.

Note: you can only travel to a core planet that way, you still have to go into space if you want to go to Yavin or another remote planet (except Lok). However, you can travel that convenient way back from a remote planet to a core system.

Ok

Now I realize many here will feel I am simply dishing out some Dev-hate, and I apologize in advance if that is an unintended impression, but be that as it may...........

If the guy who is somewhat up the SOE food chain (TH) doesn't realize that you can simply press "N" to pull up the zone map, and thinks that writing a slash command macro and dropping into our toolbar is a "tip".................

.....well you know
