AND to further add my two credits, every single "iconic" privateer / freelance fighter from the EU was created by someone for some reason, be it the Skipray Blastboat or the R-41 Starchaser (Timothy Zahn for Heir to the Empire and Lawrance Holland for a fodder ship in X-Wing). Point is these other people were allowed to create something to add to the cannon: why can't SOE?

Point is there's enough of them existing as it is. Use what's there before creating more that nobody has seen before. That's my opinion, I don't expect anyone to agree.

Wow, Just had the most fun I've had in a long time in this game.

A guildmate needed help with a mission. So our guild helped out. Two of us have crappy fighters...so we fought from the turrets of one ship while our guildies were flying zooming through the dogfight in their TIE's.

That was Awesome!!! I was blown away. This is what I play for.

Not for me. I feel like Im playing Freespace again. X-wing alliance has a much more of a star wars feel to it. than JTL.

It feels that way...until you Ace. Then, past PvPing and loot hunting the drive to continue with it starts to fade.

Thats because you lsoe purpose. Before you reach master, youre goal is to reach master lol. When you get there, the game offers you nothing but PvP. Its weird,.... this game almost seems to treat PvP as a reward.

A reward about 1 in 1000 indulge in, though 1 in 5 feel the need to complain that Kessel is no longer PvP-enabled even though they never bother to declare in space.

And 5 out of 5 feel the compulsion to one-star people who call them on their bull.

JtL's SWG's saving grace for me. While there's alot to like about SWG there's alot that's terminally wrong with it (RE: All the 'where's the Star Wars part?' style threads or, as I prefer to think of it, SWG: An Empire Ambivalent). JtL's at least got me in space and roleplaying with friends whether as a fighter wing or crew on my spiffy YT-1300. I've madeMaster Pilotand I'm still obsessed with getting even better partsfor my ships. Built a small complex outside the player-city I call home just to store parts.

The beauty of JtL will come in time. When they've gotten the GCW fixed, the combat update implimented and have time to create some new quests...well, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. A GCW that actually models warfare and incorporates both space and ground elements will make it all worthwhile. Quests that include both ground and space elements will finally feel a bit like...what were those oldmovies? Star Wars? Something like that.

But for now JtL's the one thing that's keeping me around and relatively less disgruntled than usual.

I don't think JtL is SWG's "saving grace", once you become an Ace there is almost nothing else to do, and come on, it took me all of a week of casual play to do that.

JtL doesn't add to the "Star Warsy" feel for me, that may be partly because I chose to be a Privateer and was therefore deprived of any fighters remotely resembling anything seen in the movies or EU, except the YT-1300 which is useless without a crew, and even then too weak to take on anything remotely dangerous. I just don't get the Star Warsy feel from shooting down ships or flyingthat look like they are from Battlestar Galactiga or Starship Troopers, and I have no desire to re-roll now that I've spent well over a million credits getting to Ace.

In my opinion, the combat revamp is what will decide whether the game survives in the long run. It will have to be mighty impressive to keep players around, JtL just isn't something that will keep players around for any length of time. Not sayingJtL isbad, but not quite what I would call a success either.

Define remotely dangerous. My YT with its trained crew has taken out high tier gunships with little fuss or muss. If your operations officer knows how to handle shields and you've got a remote clue as how to build a ship, the YT (and I'd imagine the Decimator and Nova as well) is a sturdy little beast. If, on the other hand, you don't constantly look for good parts to RE, figure out how to take advantage of flight computer programs or train a crew...well, that's not exactly JtL's fault.

If you want to fly and shoot down iconic ships your best bet is to join a faction. I'm not exactly sure what an 'iconic' privateer ship looks like (aside from Slave-1 and The Millenium Falcon) so the 'Hutt' and 'Black Sun' ships don't bother me so much. In fact, the only 'iconic' privateer ship I recall from the X-Wing/TIE games is the 'cloakshape' fighter which does look quite a bit like the Syck (and the Syck even looks better). Perhaps some neutral forces should have different rosters. That I can agree with. CorSec should have Z95s and X-Wings along with neutral class heavy fighters for example.

Oh, and it took me well over a month of less than casual play to make Master Pilot. Then again, I'm mostly a do-it-yourselfer. No PA for me - too much like work. I'd fly missions with friends in-game as much as I could though. But, as I said, I'm still having fun customizing and tweaking my ships. I've got three (after retiring the Yacht) and all of them aren't as lethal or as fast as I'd like them to be yet. I do hope we see alot more JtL content including quests and GCW relevance but I can't say I'm bored yet. All players have different levels of attentionspan though.

Can't handle anything remotely dangerous huh?

Hmmmm.... The Crimson Flare has 4 Corvettes, 2 Star Destroyers, and HUNDREDS of tier 4 and 5 Black Sun kills etched on her hull. The first Star Destroyer was taken all the way down to 54% of it's bridge but we had to call it a night, the second one had essentially only 1 fighter helping. She's handled tier 4 and 5 YT's, Novas, and Decimators. Tons of Tier 4 TIEs swarming her. Plenty of pirates in the Tier 4 area. We can solo an entire Black Sun duty mission (that is96 tier 4's and21 tier 5's) without having our armor touched with only a crew of 4 (two gunners, a copilot / engineer, Pilot), we can solo these mission while going through the Tier 4 Agro Droid fighters (which IMO are more difficult than A Wings to get a bead on) that spawn in Endor), we can solo these missions while going through swarms of TIEs and agroing them as well. Don't tell me we can't handle anything remotely dangerous when we can handle situations that would make fighter pilot wet his flight suit while we do it with a smile and a Jawa Beer.

Maybe because my friends and Iplayed Tie Fighterwith a mouse on486 DX2 with no sound card using a giant marker board for a mouse pad.

I can't believe how good thislooks with the graphics turned up...

My brothers andson and I could jump into space in our ship (a customizable fully furnishable ship) to go help out a friend halfway across the galaxy...

We get jumped by Rebels on the way...My brothers run for the turrets, my son jumps into the OP chair, ready with his repair kits to run around and fix us while we are in flight...

Hmmm...maybe star wars is different for everyone?

The look, the sound, everything...this is Star Wars to me.
